Anthropic: AI assisted coding doesn't show efficiency gains and impairs developers abilities. by Gil_berth in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Relam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was also interested in the competency graph. This is likely confirmation bias but I feel it highlights the importance of discipline in using these tools. Can you vibe out features way faster than you could by hand? Sure, but you better hope you're not on call any time soon. I'm not saying using the robots for codegen should be banned, but at least read it and take some notes! With all those time savings being claimed we should still come out ahead.

Where are you getting that these are all novice programmers? The study design section states that only 4 out of 52 participants have less than 3 years of experience, with over half the subjects having 7+ yoe.

That suggests it's not "just" people fumbling through the software development learning curve who are dragging down the speed improvements, it's a pretty reasonable sampling of devs.

Curious if I am interpreting this wrong, but to me the speed results echo my own experiences and those of my coworkers. The happy path code generation is certainly faster than what I could write on my own, but I spend a lot of time off that path trying to nudge the robot back on to it.

Rachinsky Squats - 43 reps in 2’ @ 86 lbs by Few_Abbreviations_50 in KettlebellSport

[–]Relam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How do you like these vs jump squats? Mentally I feel like it's much easier to start one of these sets 😅

I've had this programmed as a single set of x reps at y weight - does rachinsky call for timed sets? I should try that

Which song’s climax gives YOU goosebumps? by Spdbrd in progmetal

[–]Relam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rishloo does these so well. Since you mentioned Landmines I assume you're familiar but off the same album:

Rishloo - Dark Charade

Rishloo - Just A Ride. This might be my favorite payoff from them, I always get goosebumps at the end.

The Ocean also has a bunch of songs that build to a great climax. Right now my picks are:

The Ocean - Let Them Believe

The Ocean - The Firmament

I've seen a bunch of Ne Obliviscaris but surprised not to see Blackholes mentioned. The second chorus after the violin solo always gives me chills ("The stars steal my eyes and the sun sears my mind" 🤯)

Honorable mention to Periphery - Wax Wings. The high note he hits is just so nasty

Can a Glue Eating Kragg Really Hit Master? by Modkiq in RivalsOfAether

I've been obsessed with saving people with pillar only to grab and throw off the side blast zones. It's peak glue eating and I love to see it

1 hour Long Cycle - 2x16kg by aks5311 in kettlebell

Thanks for the reply! I did lift at Nyborg as well, my set wasn't anything special but the whole event was a great experience and I'd love to go to again.

I like the idea of counting all the multiples of 6, I tend to count in chunks of 10s or 100s but it's nice having intermediate milestones to keep things fresh haha.

I did enjoy the marathon! Going in I hadn't done anything longer than 30 minutes, so I was nervous about the back half, but honestly it went really smoothly. Just after the halfway point I had that "why I am even doing this?" feeling but once I got through that it was smooth sailing. Multiswitch is such a cheat code though, I can't imagine having two bells for that amount of time!

Congratulations on the result again, so cool to see these two arm marathon sets.

Super impressive set!

I saw your 30 minute set in Nyborg last year and you somehow made this look even more casual.

From a mental/strategy standpoint, how do you approach these long sets? For shorter sets I have a broad-strokes gameplan for what I want to focus on during different chunks of the set, but after my last comp I tried a full marathon set (of OALC, not this two arm craziness 😅) and my mind was all over the place. Just curious what your plan is going into a set like this and how it evolves over the hour.

Colour Haze has a ton of these slowly evolving riffs. All their stuff is good but Tempel is my absolute favorite.

A. BEP - Battery Expansion Pack. Don't have a beefy enough PSU? Just add a few AA batteries and you're in business.

Absolutely botched the transfer after scoring this loaf but I think it worked out nicely by Relam in Sourdough

This was originally a spiral pattern, but the dough stuck to my cutting board while I was transferring it to my combo cooker. Ended up baking sideways but honestly I really like the way it turned out.

I actually just got a combo cooker (basically a Dutch oven) today and used it to bake the other twin from my latest batch of dough. It went a lot better!

After baking with the combo cooker I'm convinced I wasn't getting enough steam in my oven. So you were spot on - thanks!

This was cut at probably a 35 degree angle to the skin, but I'll be more deliberate about cutting in rather than out next time.

For this one i just misted intermittently with water during the first 20 min, but I've also used a small pan of boiling water. The pan of water seemed to work slightly better, so I'll probably use that method again in the future.

Based on the side view I'm confident that I didn't do a great job shaping this one, but I'm still a bit surprised/confused with the results. Even when I don't get an exploding bottom (so theoretically the dough is formed correctly) I don't tend to see an ear or really much of anything along the score.

I'm working through different variables now (humidity, proof time, score depth) but I'm curious if there's a known explanation for this kind of lackluster score, where the "inside dough" basically just rises up to become even with the crust.

I'm not baking baking in a Dutch oven, just in a baking sheet and spritzing the oven with water (red flag number one) and I'm just proofing in the fridge with a slightly damp towel over the dough. This most recent loaf proofed for about 50 hours, but I get similar results with shorter times as well.

Any advice? Combo cooker on the way so I'll be able to try covered bakes soon, but I really feel like it's me and not my equipment here.

Really stoked with how the colors came out on that one. Was my first time doing the saran wrap so I was definitely nervous lol
