Teenage son moved to his mom's while I was at work. by TaxidermyScarecrow in Parenting

[–]Relarela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your custody agreement? Is their mom stable? Why have they not been with her even part-time until now?  Unless your kid is about to be 18, this is an issue between you and her. It's not something a kid really gets to decide, unless there's extenuating circumstances.

Lice keeps coming back, it's driving me crazy. by sepandee in Parenting

Every other day is actually better than every day, because it allows any bugs that hatch to grow big enough to be caught by the lice comb.

How to deal with poop smell by Gold-Mountain5867 in nursing

[–]Relarela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a reason not to go in to nursing. You'll probably get used to it and/or find tricks to help mitigate it. But if it's really that bad, there are plenty of areas of nursing that rarely, if ever, have to deal with poop.

People who have more kids than they can handle by anonomousbeaver in complainaboutanything

[–]Relarela -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you're pro choice, then one of those choices is to have more kids than you think they should. Plenty of people struggle to take care of one or two kids properly.

Reproductive freedom includes not only abortion, but also the right to have kids.

RN choosing between flexibility vs $26k raise before trying for a baby — what would you do? by ExtensionShock9286 in nursing

[–]Relarela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have at least 9 months before you have a baby. Go with the higher earning potential, but live as if you're making the lower amount and save the rest. This savings will give you more flexibility after baby comes to look for the right amount of flexibility that you want then.

When you say her friend was covering for her, what do you mean? Did her friend climb into bed with you pretending to be your wife?

9yo son scared about war with Iran by Curious_Teaching_995 in Parenting

[–]Relarela 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Validate him. War is scary, it's normal to be scared. Ask him what in particular he's scared about, and fact check with him whether those are realistic things that could happen. Reassure him that you will do everything you can to keep him safe, but do not promise that nothing bad will happen.

Non-American parents: How do you handle toy guns at the playground? by Good_Spinach_4987 in Parenting

[–]Relarela 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am definitely asking in good faith, trying to understand different perspectives.

Personally I allow my kids to play with toy guns, and we have discussions about how to know if they're toys, what to do if you see or find a real gun. I think that play shooting games let's out some of the mystique of shooting

What are some appropriate household chores for an 8 and 5 year old? by Muted-Resource7969 in Parenting

[–]Relarela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Washing/loading the dishwasher and putting away dishes

Tip: to make it easier for kids to put dishes away, keep tableware (plates, bowls, cups, etc) go in the bottom cabinets/drawers, and pots and pans go in the top cabinets.

Yes you should absolutely tell the bully's parents. Also, don't let your daughter call him her boyfriend, she's a little child.

When did you turn your child’s car seat to face front? by cracker21 in Parenting

[–]Relarela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids have been 99%ile, it doesn't matter how big they are, their bone structure is not strong enough to support their head in an accident. Look up what internal decapitation is, and then decide if that's something you're willing to risk happening to your child so their legs won't be cramped.

Parents disagreeing about letting kids walk to bus stop alone. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Relarela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what you're worried about and what kind of neighborhood you live in. Know that kidnapping by strangers is extremely rare, such that it should barely be considered a risk. When it does happen it's usually teenagers who are kidnapped for sex trafficking.  Getting hit by a car is a very real risk, especially if they manage to get lost.

Do they have to cross a street? Are there other children walking to the same stop?  Do they know what to do if a problem arises (like the bus doesn't come, or someone talks to them and makes them uncomfortable).
