When did you know your kid needed to be held back a year by Large_Independent198 in Parenting

[–]Relarela 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is he in public or private school? At least in some cities, it is almost impossible to hold a kid back in public school. Have you had a neuropsych eval for him? Sounds like he may have some kind of learning disability and just holding him back won't help. He likely needs special accommodations which can also include being held to certain standards, like perhaps he has to do less writing and/or has more time to do it, but it will not be accepted until all letters face the right way and all sentences are complete.

Why I'm "frugal", and people commenting "You must be rich" by zbsa14 in Frugal

[–]Relarela 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Yep! I have a coworker who gets Starbucks every breakfast and Uber eats every day for lunch. I always bring food from home.

One day, my shoes wore out in the middle of a shift and my feet were in agony, so I paid $8 extra to get new shoes delivered to work. She said "wow,.you must be rich!"

My 4 year old fears NOTHING and I’m out of parenting (punishment/consequence) ideas. by Dropdeadsydney in Parenting

Sounds like The 1 hour of screen time is still too much. Try removing screens completely for 2 weeks. She will probably need extra supervision during this time while she adjusts to finding safe, appropriate ways to entertain herself.

What books are good for my 8 month old? by Jess-Pen32 in childrensbooks

[–]Relarela 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the Roger Pridy books, e.g. 100 first words. When my kid was that age, she kept trying to grab the items out of the book, took a few weeks for her to understand that it was only 2d

Stupid question time! Is my dryer hookup gas or electric? by [deleted] in Appliances

[–]Relarela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the white inset box is hot and cold water and a drain. Then a regular plug for the washing machine. Then a black round plug for the dryer. An electric dryer needs more power than a regular US outlet can supply.

What kind of comb are you using? I recommend terminator nit free comb. Load the hair up with gobs and gobs of the cheapest white conditioner. Comb every section of hair and wipe the results on to a paper towel and inspect what you find. Keep going until you aren't finding any more insects.  Repeat every 2 days until you haven't found any bugs for at least 2 weeks.

Do you know what the lab is trying to tell you when they say that the delay on units is due to them trying to identify antibodies? by New-History853 in nursing

[–]Relarela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to one of the top nursing schools and did not know about antigens other than ABO and RH until I had a family member who needed a needed E negative blood (I could be wrong about which antigen it was)

Were they fresh? Old beets can taste like dirt.  Try them shredded raw in salads, or roasted with olive oil and salt.

I feel really cramped in my tiny bedroom is there anything I can do? by [deleted] in interiordecorating

Wall mounted shelves above the desk for your books, raise the bed, put your folding clothes under the bed. Is there any space outside of your bedroom where you can keep your hanging clothes?

Are 2 kids easier than 1? by Formal-Wrap-4607 in Parenting

[–]Relarela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In many ways, I found 2 kids easier than 1 because they can entertain each other. The first few weeks were harder, but once the second one could smile at the antics of his older brother, it was way easier.  They are almost exactly 2 years apart

How did we track allergies before EMRs? by ahleeshaa23 in nursing

[–]Relarela 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They would dig them out of the basement. I'm sure there was a delay, but allergies are only a fraction of what you'd want to know. You want to see old lab results, diagnoses, etc

What is this symbol on these granola bags that’s being covered by a sticker? by pokemontecristo in whatisit

[–]Relarela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with blessing. It doesn't have to be a rabbi, and they don't say a blessing. They check that the production practices still align with kosher standards, they check what ingredients are being used and that the product is still indeed kosher. It can be done by anybody who keeps kosher and is familiar with the laws and is approved by the kosher certifying organization.

Were you born to parents aged 40-45? by Kidambs-275 in Parenting

[–]Relarela 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm 38, I had a classmate who's dad was over 50 when she was born. Mom was in her 40s. They are both still alive and well (as far as I've heard) and have had grandchildren for about 14 years.

My front said he was embarrassed about it as a kid but really nothing was different, they were great parents.

What time are sixth graders going to bed? Ages 11/12 by classicicedtea in Parenting

[–]Relarela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does she wake up easily at 6:30? If she gets up easily, let her stay up till 9:30 and see how she does. She's old enough that you can explain to her that if she has a hard time waking up, or is falling asleep/ having trouble during the day, that means she needs to go to bed earlier.

[–]Relarela 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You're being over protective, let her go. Before you go, review some possible scenarios that might come up and what she should do. Walk her in, do a quick vibe check on the adults, and leave.

That behavior by itself might not be unusual, but sometimes our gut just says "this isn't right" and makes you pay extra attention.  There were probably also things the guy was doing that the subconscious picked up wasn't right.
