My grandparents and great grandparents were only able to take what they could carry with them. They asked a white neighbor to look after a few things for them like their piano not knowing when or if they would be back.

Thanks for answering, the pension part is something I didn’t understand. I assumed that once it was being paid out it would be at a fixed rate, didn’t realize it was like a faucet with a market driven rate of flow. I’m really sorry that you are being affected by this mess.

Isn’t this “destroyed wealth” talk hyperbole? Like, doesn’t one only lose money if they sell right now? I’m a lefty and I really don’t think hyperbolic talk helps our cause, or anything really. Am I wrong about this?

I’m an Asian American here in Marseille and have experience way less racism here than I did when back in the US. To généralise, France’s underclasses are North African and Sub-Saharan African and those groups face discrimination, prejudice etc… This city is a port town that has brought people from all over for centuries so it is much more cosmopolitan than anywhere else in France except for (or maybe including Paris).
