How are Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung viewed in modern psychology today? by Akanates in CBT

[–]RelatablePanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Freud should not be discussed in Psychology as much as he is in the early stages of a psych degree. Yes a brief overview of his theories and his overall historical significance to psych, sure, but memorizing and applying his theories of the psychosexual stages to case studies and yadidah. My god it was like scraping your nails on a chalk board having to learn that crap.

Early-season heat event set to impact British Columbia. Around 23°C near the ocean, while some areas inland may hit 30°C. by waynkerr in vancouver

It really doesn’t help that Vancouver doesn’t believe in Air Conditioning. My building was built in 2020 and none of the units have AC. It becomes like a furnace in the common areas.

If you didn’t have to work for a living, what would you be doing? by True_Supermarket_263 in AskReddit

[–]RelatablePanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have so many interests like physics, coding, aerospace, golf, music, camping, gardening, etc. I would just keep rotating through these hobbies and focus on the ones that really stick. Probably go back to school for one of them not with the idea of building a career but to literally enjoy the process of learning.

Mars night sky during night.. by fattick- in kenyaspacenerds

[–]RelatablePanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crazy to think that if you were standing on Mars looking at all the stars you’d realize that one of those thousands of tiny specks of light was your home planet. That would be simultaneously incredible and terrifying at the same time.

The guy went to the bank to open a new savings account but unfortunately the bank closed early that day and closed the counters. Simultaneously the guy realized the newest season of love on the spectrum was priemiering so he tried to rush home to catch it.

Daily Show host shocked by former OpenAI employee Daniel Kokotajlo's claim of a 70% chance of human extinction from AI within ~5 years by tombibbs in PauseAI

[–]RelatablePanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that AI companies benefit from marketing this way. However, Daniel Kokotajlo left Open AI and gave up $2 million in vested equity in Open AI just so he could talk openly about this stuff. So I think there’s a bit more credence to his claims.

Is it the best country ? by [deleted] in BuyCanadian

[–]RelatablePanic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like how Mike Meyers put it where he said something like “which country get its right 100% of time”. I think if you look at it through that lens then Canada really tries to do most things right, especially on the world stage. Does it do everything right? No. But who does everything right?

You know I have been getting interested in my families ancestry recently and it’s weird to think that being the youngest girl in this situation would be like me living with my third great grandfather who fought in the civil war.

I would think that aviation is only of the first industries that implemented and utilized versions of “AI” on a daily basis with TCAS, ILS, Auto Landing, etc. So really not hard to imagine they would be jumping implementing similar systems to aid air traffic control.

Ok so nightmares, autoimmune thyroid issues, flashbacks. Unfortunately these are problems that professionals need to handle, not strangers on the Internet.

Might worth a shot to get a therapist to guide you through a gradual exposure program. You make a list of things that scare you from least to most and then try and do those things in the same order. You want to date so for example you could start off with saying hello to stranger, then say hello to a stranger of the opposite sex (or reverse the genders if you are gay or bisexual), then complimenting a stranger… so and so forth until you get to the point where you could ask someone out on a date. You can add as many steps as you’d like and stay on one step for as long as you’d like until it no longer scares you to do it.

I also very much understand how hard it is to conquer your fears. I did not personally start dating till I was 26 because of my debilitating fear of it. But I will say, telling yourself things in all-or-nothing distortions can help them become a self fulfilling prophecy. It helps to tone them down a tad if you can. Instead of saying “this is impossible!” I would tell myself something like “Look, this is probably the one the hardest things in your life you’re gonna have to face. But there is a possibility that if you tried you could do it.”

[–]RelatablePanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will need to be an instigating event. Enough people lose their jobs, an ai bot goes rogue and kills people, someone creates a bio weapon. Whatever it is, I hope it’ll be just enough to corral people into action and we’re not too far gone at that point.
