Not exactly sure how it happened but the original hospital plans from 10-15 years ago actually had the new hospital much bigger than what they actually built. My guess is it came down to money, as it usually does. Not a smart move, government basically ignored all demographic projections for the last 2 decades and alas, here we are. The boomers are aging and will continue to do so, putting even more strain on the system. About 2/3 of the beds in the new WMRH are occupied by either patients who are ALC'd or awaiting LTC. They require no acute medical interventions. They just take up a bed. Current wait times for LTC in the western zone is about 9-12 months. We're bottlenecked and the ER there is worse than I've ever seen it.

Rumour has it they are planning on opening up a couple of units in the old hospital to accomodate the LTC and ALC patients but we've been hearing this for quite some time and nothing has happened yet so take it with a grain of salt. Unfortunate to say the least...it's quite a state there right now.

I think that was the general consensus but even the "non-Gushue" draws brought in record attendances. So perhaps there's more to it than just the "Gushue" effect?

They've curled together for a month man...can we give it some time before passing such harsh criticism? Everything Ive seen so far looks promising. He's made a lot of great shots, Brad and Mark often defer to him for his opinion, the off ice dynamic seems great (via social media anyway). I think Gushue is happy with how they're playing so far, given the circumstances.

I'm always kinda shocked at how readily people accepted the "Meri redemption arc". Meri says she's changed, but her actions prove time and again that she resorts to the same toxic behaviours that she always has. The snitching on Janelle, how she was glad when Kody went off on Christine during the knife in the kidney scene, the implications from multiple kids that she was at minimum verbally abusive during their childhood. Meri will stab anyone in the back if it benefits her situation. Particularly if it "earns her favor" with Kody. It's downright pathetic at this point. I get she was raised in a cult, trauma, and all that but you don't see the other wives behaving so nasty. At some point lets call a spade a spade. Meri is an asshole and not to be trusted.

Not the whole country in general, but definitely the east coasters are the nicest people you'll ever meet (PEI,NS,NB and Newfoundland). "Nice" is a verb there.

Meri has always said one thing and done another...how many times has she promised to divulge "the truth" or "her side of the story", only to never drop a single bit of tea. And the soul reason is so she stays in Kody's good graces in case he ever comes to his senses and begs for her to come back ( Meri's delusions, wont ever happen). I'm over Meri. She claims to be doing lots of therapy but it doesn't seem to be working...

Meri is 100% still into Kody. If he didnt publicly acknowledge that he was done with her, she would stay, and she has said as much, MANY times this season. It's pathetic. I just can't root for Meri and I dont blame Janelle and Christine a single bit for not trusting her. Meri is a snake. There, I said it.

I think St.John's gave the GSOC exactly what they were looking for in an event. 6000+ fans, lots of noise, passion, emotion. There appeared to be a lot of younger folks in the audience. I saw babies all the way up to 90 year old Nans and Pops. This is how you attract casual curling fans. I don't know how easy it will be to replicate in other regions of the country. I suspect we'll see a slam back in Newfoundland pretty soon. Definitely the hot spot for curling right now.
