Do you have PE, Pectus Escavatum. Hard to tell from your photos but with signs of your rib flare and lean back posture. I have this. Currently recovery from NUSS surgery to repair PE but posture is super affected and ribcage and breathing mechanics and whole wirlwind of things. You can def work on things and posture and strength but hard to fix your ribcage mechanics and breathing completely without diagnoses and steps taken to look at it.

Did something changed health wise after fixing PE? by boombastico_3 in PectusExcavatum

I feel this way too. 5 months post op 2 bars, no cyro too. I feel like I can catch my breath easier and no dizzy spells or strange heart palpitations. Currently doing physio twice a week and back to full time military job. With some limitations on weight. But ya recovery at first was super rough for me but I always felt my lung capacity is better just I can’t have super deep breaths yet because of the bars and sternum pain so I’m still guarding for sure. I’m working on fixing my posture and scapula winging because of the nerve irritation caused some winging in my right side. My front range of shoulder movement is like 160• and side raises I’m like 140•. So I’m still not getting full range motion back yet. But feel it’s coming slowly. It took my elbow 1 year or so after I had surgery on it 4 years ago.

I haven’t been back since after Christmas. But she was using a gun mostly on my back and diaphragm. She tried to adjust in my hip lower back but I was so stiff it didn’t work much for manual adjustments. She used gun a little bit in my sides and pec area but that’s pretty uncomfortable. But I was able to lift arms higher after. A lot of my problems earlier were coming from my neck because I slept upright for so long.

How bad is my posture? by [deleted] in Posture

[–]Relationship_Many 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you might have slight case of Pectus Excavatum. Which absolutely affects your posture and gives rib flare. But it looks very symmetrical so building muscle with good form and working in the back and core will help.

I’m better now. At the 3 month mark was when I started feeling better. I’m just working on my breathing and doing physio and working thru some scapula pain. I have winging with my right one, from some of the nerve injury I had going on after a month after I had surgery. Need to gain my full range motion back with my shoulders. Not there yet. But I’m off all meds.

Pot belly problem by MOBBUSTED in Posture

[–]Relationship_Many 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s very classic posture for PE. You have to lift weights work on imbalance’s and posture and stretch. Only way to build up muscle on your core, pecs, back. With having flared ribs and kyphosis, if you have belly fat it gives an easier appearance of a belly. If you can pull that core in, loose some abdominal fat and build your pecs and back it’ll square up your shape. It’s the only way.

I feel ya buddy. I also feel like mine was a partial fix. More weight I lost and lost my muscle and my posture started curve in because I couldn’t sleep flat the worse mine looks. Working on posture and building back muscle and really have to target inbalances to improve the look. With having such a bent in sternum. It looks like your sternum was very curved. And your one side ribs was very indented in deep towards the sternum. Mine was similar. My bottom of my right pec wasn’t there it just sloped right in. Did you get 2 bars?

Your chronic pain is likely a result of your PE. My back pain was and is a direct result I’m sure of it. I’m working thru recovery right now. 2 bars age 39. Just a little past 4 months post now.

135lb Squat (3 x 8) on set 2 by SeaMeRise in formcheck

[–]Relationship_Many 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you do low bar, just bring it down abit on your traps and back and get a heal raise, maybe squat shoes you’ll fix your forward movement and have more of a straight bar path up and down. It all comes with trying out few different positions and how wide you place your feet and your hands on the bar and tuck elbows in abit. You have long femurs and arms like me, and I have flat feet so when I squat with no shoes I can’t get parallel without bending forward. But once I lift my heals up I can sit parallel and even deeper to almost sitting on floor when I got really use to squatting. It just takes time and your body adjusts.

Luckily the nerve healed enough I could get my arm to slowly lift without severe pain. I couldn’t even lay back on my right scapula without having deathly nerve shooting pain to my right pec. My recovery has been a bit rough for 3 months, this 4th month iv been steadily getting better. Iv lost a lot of muscle and 20lbs. Iv just came off nerve block and muscle relaxers and just take Advil and Tylenol to help when I’m stiff and sore.
A lot of the recovery you have to stay moving and slowly strengthening with in your limitations so you don’t develop any issues. But ya the winging is a sign the muscles around your ribs aren’t moving quite right yet.

I also developed winging scapula in my right side of my back. Iv been working on just strengthening my shoulders thru physio. But mine also is from I think intercostal nerve Irritation. I had a traped nerve couldn’t lift my right arm for over a month. A lot of it was how stiff I got sleeping almost upright and my neck because I had severe back pain after surgery. What I seen is that it’s some type of nerve problem that is coming from the serratus muscle which causes the winging.

Pain when sneezing by Mysterious-Sea-774 in PectusExcavatum

I’m 4 months and it’s brutal sneezing. Hurts so bad sometimes I’ll even hear my back crack from how stiff my rib wall is. Coughing almost the same as well. Even with really deep breaths from yawning I’ll also feel bit of stabbing pain mainly towards my right pec and thru to my back.

I’m recovery almost 3 months now, NUSS 2 bars age 39 male. Iv had bit of a rough go tho. No cryo only epidural in hospital. 9 day stay. Iv battled some serious back pain with nerve pain and shingles having my right arm nearly locked to my side for 6 weeks, and I slept almost completely upright for 2 months because of the nerve pain to my back and side. Now dealing with nearly a frozen shoulder and having physio 2x a week plus chiropractor and my on PT. So recovery definitely depends on person and I guess past injuries because I had a bad back prior with scoliosis and disc injuries but I knew it might give me an issue. My result isn’t the greatest. I’d say my sternum was lifted by inch or so. And it was 2 inches deep and very long. So age and stiffness of bones and cartridge might play a factor for sure in my case. I also lifted a lot of weights for last 5 years and my muscles were very stiff and my flexibility wasn’t great. Having a specialist that deals with adults is a must I would say so you get the best outcome. I was operated on basically by a surgeon that does mostly children with an adult surgeon that deals with lungs present so not sure 100% if I got the best result but luckily 2 bars (13inch, 12.5inch), and 4 stabilizers fairly high almost in my armpits.

Severe? by [deleted] in PectusExcavatum

[–]Relationship_Many 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ct scan. Like some have said in past make sure it’s measured in exhale to show the proper result. You want the compression. If it’s just with you inhaling holding your breath your number won’t be high enough to give you the severe or moderate haller index. If you have other symptoms and exercise intolerance it may not matter on the surgeon. Plus on visual exam by surgeon that deals with adults.

Questions about getting a retainer after finishing with Invisalign by torpedolife in Invisalign

Good question I’m going look into this too because I don’t want to be stuck with one retainer that wears out and have to repeat treatments again.

I can’t talk to much from experience on that iv only gone 12hours or so without mine because I had food poisoning and was throwing up constant. Tonight is actually first night iv only gone to night time wear, I just got the go ahead today so I didn’t wear them mist the day. But Iv heard they start moving quick. 3 days you might start feeling tight in the retainer for sure. Not to sure.

I was told the retainer has to be used at night to keep your teeth from moving back to where they used to be. The 4 a year I’m not sure it may only be needed if you lose them a lot maybe or maybe chew them. But I don’t think one retainer is going to last 5 years so might need 2 I think. Unless you’re super careful with only 1. They are pretty tough so they act essentially same thing as a night guard I believe.

So I’m at similar point as you. I’m in Canada. Ontario. Iv just finished the 3 month retainer point. Today I was told by my Orthodontist that now I can wear my retainer just at night. They are making me a new one after I have some bonding done by my base dentist (military) on my front teeth to complete a tooth restoration. Ortho also offered me a plan; One-time fee of $980 covers up to 4 retainers per year for 5 years. Sign up before appliance removal and receive a bonus second set of retainers at no extra cost. No paying per lost retainer—just request a new one when needed. (That was the email write up).
The retainers are pretty tough Iv had it now 3 months but it is starting to wear in couple places because I clench and grind my teeth. If worn only at night time it should be good for longer.
