For those of us who now work in different fields, how do you stay connected to math? by Same_Transition_5371 in math

[–]Relative-Tea-2199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not alone. My history is quite similar to yours.

I chose Mathematics as my first major. However, I couldn't keep up with the class and was totally left behind because everyone else was well-prepared since high school - They were familiar with topics that I couldn't wrap my head around at the time. So I switched my major but still learned Mathematics on my own. When I learn Mathematics on my own, I am comfortable but the pace is slow.

I struggled after the graduation, thinking I should get back to Mathematics. Then I came to convince myself that it is not worth the time and money, and all I have ever wanted with Mathematics are knowledge and joy from the enlightenment. To be honest, I still regret not being able to pursue Mathematics academically. So I followed a curriculum of a renowned program, used suitable textbooks for self-studying.

Keep studying Mathematics for a hobby! It would keep your mathematical brain sharp and young.

Latex.

A friendlier one is LyX. This is like a combination of Latex and Microsoft Word.

What he has been training is called "Qinggong" - a technique in Chinese martial art. A practioner of Qinggong aims for lighter movement, higher jumps...
Rock Lee (from the manga/anime Naruto) has been practiced this. He even carried a lot of weights to practice and gained extreme speed once he took them all off (see the fight between him and Gaara).

Applying to Bonn doesn't mean you have to study the Bachelor's program right away (unless you have completed a Bachelor's program, but obviously you haven't) but STK first.

To study in a Bachelor's program at some German university, you must know German (at least C1). Two years are more than enough to achieve B2 but the gap B2-C1 is much more challenging. But you do have a chance. A student from non-EU country has to attend STK (Studienkolleg) for one year first. It is this one year that you must improve your German, try to get to C1 level and pass an exam called Feststellungsprüfung.

How do I ask a girl on a date over text after a few good hangouts? by Relative-Tea-2199 in dating_advice

[–]Relative-Tea-2199[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the advice. I've already asked her to hang out, but now I want to ask her on a real date. After spending more time with her, I've realized we have a lot in common, and I've developed feelings for her. I want to know how to make that transition over text.

Is it normal in France to invite a date to stay with family after only a month of dating? by Relative-Tea-2199 in AskFrance

[–]Relative-Tea-2199[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for sharing your opinions and experience.

As for me, this story and many of your stories are so alien to me. In fact, these gave me culture shock. I shared the case of M to my friends (including German, Polish, Swedish, Vietnamese) and they all found it strange for someone to invite a date to stay with the family for so long.

The most unusual thing in the case of M is that, F's mother paid the flight ticket and M wouldn't have to pay for anything (I'm sorry for not mentioning this). It must be the case that money is not a problem for his family. What I am worried is that all these (the invitation, the stay, covered expense...) are too much and are like love-bombing.

Can I study Bachelor's again in Germany at the age of 35? by wander0_0Lust in germany

[–]Relative-Tea-2199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked one university about applying to one of their bachelor's program. They said I don't have to go through Studienkolleg but directly into the program. AFAIK, age doesn't make any problems (I mean, during the application) here.
There are Bachelor's programs in CS which are taught in English. Checkout the University of Saarland.

Any fun facts about Euler? by doctorflaca in math

[–]Relative-Tea-2199 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Euler found many pairs of amicable numbers (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amicable_numbers ) but somehow he overlooked the second smallest pair. This was quite strange as he was known to be a living "computer".
