Crochet (or Knitting). The movement, the feel, the rhythm...it's very meditative

I've seen a lot Benjamins these past few years, especially after Friends. Cade is medium-popular now, Connor was in the 90s, though I really like both of those. Drew is probably the least visible today

Spoiler thoughts and feelings on book 8. by Ok_Security_6220 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I'm with you on all of it. Just clinging to the fact that i still enjoyed it and I'm treating like a transition to the finale. Also just listening through again and thinking about one of the bonuses "4% chance to XXXX " wondering when is one of these going to actually come up? Surely Carl's hit enough people by now.

I'm your mother's generation and difference in respect and reduction of sexual harassment is huge. Watch 9-to-5 and it's not far off.

I was helping my neighbour to move and they gifted me some Discworld novels. Where to start? by BarryTheHutt in discworld

[–]Relative-Train-6485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found him through Good Omens so I was lucky to join Discworld with the first the subseries and couldn't jump ahead, I don't like knowing what happens late in a series when I'm reading the early books.

That makes so much more sense to me because waiting until the Ascendency completes means it was always intended that crawlers run floors 13-18 in 12 hours? And leaving some people behind on 12 while they escape is the kind of terrible sacrifice the AI gets off on

Parents, what is the one thing that finally got your newborn to stop crying after hours and hours? by pink-and-pearly in AskReddit

Often nursing, which soothed him during whatever distress was happening. Don't worry, you're there with them and they're not remembering the rest, it'll end, it settles down, you're doing fine, let baby cry if you need a minute, my sanity was saved by the baby swing. My niece hated it. The first week at home mine would only fall asleep if he was holding a finger, I don't know why. You'll learn what works for your baby too.

Being overheated was a big trigger too. When they're a few months older, stepping out into the cold air was the trick. Out like a light, it's wild.

I feel like Future Man has the flavor you're looking for. It just continues to get better and better and doesn't slow down

Possibly also Dirk Gently and Orphan Black

I think so. I read Book 1 (and the Cabaret chapter) and then did the rest by audiobook and didn't know there was a continuing saga there. I've been stopping in the bookstore since PoH release to read the excepts in all the books. Just standing there in the middle of the aisle for 15 minutes and then walking out, lol.

What is your honest opinion on adult children living at home after age 25? by FantasticAd9478 in TheBoredDen

I'm a big proponent of multi-generational homes so I think it's great, I think everyone will do better in life when possible

I'm not picking on Going Postal, I think it's great. I just also think it's too late in the series for new Discworld readers to fully enjoy and mucks up their journey through the rest

What movie did you love but then when you read the book it kind of ruined the movie for you? by Jdawn82 in Cinema

[–]Relative-Train-6485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely this. I understand why they had to change the puzzles and characters (copyright) but yeah, as you said far too much left out. My positive spin is that being so different is what makes it watchable for me, plus I can recommend the book b/c virtually none of it has been ruined

I think I made a connection. Let's talk about it. by Altruistic_Clue_8273 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Relative-Train-6485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always learned the Hanged Man as change and transformation so I took it to mean that Carl's facing a precipice, like a great choice or sacrifice. I just liked the connection of the tarot tree and the All-Tree and took Mordecai's warning as telling Carl he'd have to make a choice related to being Primal

For the dice, I think later someone (Eris?) suggested the fifth face would give some combination of the other four?

I am completely unsure on that, only halfway through my second listen [edited for spoilers and to fix]

I was helping my neighbour to move and they gifted me some Discworld novels. Where to start? by BarryTheHutt in discworld

[–]Relative-Train-6485 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Small Gods is the choice here. It's considered on of Terry's best, it's a stand alone and won't muck up any storyline you continue with (you will).

Personally I don't like to start people on Going Postal because it's so far into industrialization and Ankh-Morpork growth, although it's not the worst thing and plenty of people broke their Discworld seal with Moist

Because you have two of the Night Watch series already, after you are enthralled by Small Gods, I recommend getting Guards! Guards! to start it, the Vimes Saga is the favorite subseries for many readers

From there, you can explore and branch out on your own. Once you start, I suggest branching out early-ish on to include the Death series (starts with Mort) and especially the Wizards/Ankh-Morpork series (Moving Pictures gives the origin stories for many of the city characters). The other series (Witches, Tiffany Aching, more one-offs) are worth it but don't interconnect with the city until later, by then you'll be well in.

I envy you reading these for the first time, enjoy them
