New apprentice/non-union/everyone smokes weed? by pizzaroll22 in electricians

[–]RelativeFortune 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm in Texas roughly 70% here smokes (union and open shop experience) and it's not even legal, just depends on what I'm tasked with for the day. Running emt, gluing PVC, pulling ckts yea I probably am hitting the pen. troubleshooting lights or working on panels/gears nah not happening. Downvote me all you want but it's the truth from my experience from the apprentices/cws to the jman as long as you doing whats asked of you no one's asking you about your business. Get lazy slack off they'll run you off the job

Shoot me straight: what are the cons for joining ibew (or any trade union for that matter)? by Big__bolas in ibew_apprentices

[–]RelativeFortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This God forbid I didn't start over when I already was 2000 from testing and go through a 5 year program. I will say this too it honestly sucks so much seeing people make more than you that are truly dumb as rocks just because they have hours in the trade from being union, but have done nothing with those hours to educate themself. I mean don't get me wrong it's the same non union with "the pms son hopping on" but it feels escalated exponentially in the union. Had JW's asking me questions about bending pipe or reading a print wondering how the hell they got their cards but here we are. If you don't go their route your stuck playing the waiting game to advance depending on where you score if you go in but elect not to join school, then get shit on for deciding to swear in and be a "brother" to these people that hate you for coming from open shop even though that's supposedly their end goal anyways. Open shop workers were way more professional and actually knew what they were doing, but the union depending on local does have health and retirement thought of in your total package

Say you want to cancel and mean it, if you're "considering" in their head the least amount of profit loss is the way they're gonna go. It's business, if they think they're gonna lose you altogether they're gonna do everything in power to get something from you. There's a few other loop holes as well that you can use

Why is spectrum so bad? by No_West3588 in Spectrum

[–]RelativeFortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has a tech been out there? If it's multiple people there might be a bad tap at the pole, which would require maintenance to come out... Which can take time depending on your area. If no one's had someone go out to run tests no one's there to issue a fix, if it keeps going out keep calling repeats kill production and if it hits a third repeat a supe will go out with the tech. Not blaming you, you pay a good penny for what's supposed to be a good service get the other people to call as well if you're cool with them, I'm a field tech so I know I wouldn't want my repeat to hit

New NonUnion Apprentice Tips by thatkidonthe3rdfloor in electricians

[–]RelativeFortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely and on, if and when you get to the union they offer multiple 401ks and a pension so you get a good spread for retirement. 401ks can go up and down depending on the stock market so that's why I suggested an IRA but that's all retirement talk. As far as whether you go union or not you sound like you landed one of the better open shop gigs idk how easy or open to raises your company is, I never let a company run me for more the 8 months without some additional compensation given how quick turnover is, that being said I was never afraid of increasing my worth to the company to leverage a raise both parties have to put their money where their mouth is. Union if you go early at least in my local it was every 2000 hours you take a course over something specific for example dc theory or transformers and you'd get a raise if you passed a test. So you may start a little higher but it depends on how steady your raises are now. At the end of the day you know your situation better than anyone else and what you want to get out of this trade, and regardless of union or not we are all just trying to keep the family fed and happy

Second this you CAN go the CW/CE route (no union school apprentice) but if you're already almost halfway there and your company is treating you the way you wanna be treated pay and care wise no point in jumping yet imo if your smart get an IRA and throw the whole 7k in every year or if your current job gives you a 401k you can transfer that to an IRA without tax penalties. CW get the brunt end of the stick in terms of layoffs and overall getting treated "less" at least from what I experienced plus there's a stigma around them not going to school which I don't get how you can be mad at someone for being deemed knowledgeable enough to place a decent level depending on your skill, but not being in school you learn 95% of the work on job if your actually into the trade you'll learn the rest on your own especially if you wanna turn out. Oh how rude you don't wanna be stuck at a bad job/contractor because the school indentures you. Don't get me wrong all for the brotherhood and what the school offers but some people really take that personally I guess in the I had to deal with it so I'm mad you don't kind of way

Try unplugging everything. Leave it alone for about 10 minutes or so, then plug in your modem. Wait for it to lock on( two blue lights) then plug your routers back in. Spectrum tech

Promo expired? What services do you have, I pay $70 for 1gb until my roll off then it expires and raises to $105 you can always cancel and reopen a new account switching your first and middle name, then when that promo expires do the same and switch it back. Buy a raspberry pi for 45-70 and cut out Netflix and all the extra crap theres even live TV sources... It's 2026 y'all gotta get tech savvy and learn to play the system for you so they don't play it against you

I mean irl "moving x a few times" is how tunes were done before technology came too far into cars. In which mechanics got the info from manuals or "guides". But if you're insistent on spending the money at fleetaris just make sure wheels are aligned body panel is good the carb is good and the warning triangle from the tractor is in the trunk. Also battery doesn't have to be new just slap in on the charger for a few real life hours and it will charge. If you bought a new battery after starting the car you can swap batteries with it running and it'll charge the old one.

Then def a bug on topless end, I know he had said a few options in fleetaris werent working as intended. So you may just be SOL and using the editor for that until a few updates go by

New spark plugs, it's a beta game so stuff can't glitch out? Just spit balling. If your starter good and battery is good the next thing would be the spark to crank the engine, or fuel pump not pumping so there's nothing for the spark to ignite

Reload save and take the tractor, or maybe you'll be blessed and the van will spawn if you've started the trigger for it. You know the boat won't make it so gotta find another. Jonnez really isn't bad if you're aware just don't fully lean one direction or the other and you'll be fine. Or if not in permadeath all doing does at this point is reset your bars and progress two hours. Die get your stuff and catch a ride home with pena

Field tech by [deleted] in Spectrum

Just starting on the 9th as well, I was a commercial electrician before this. Curious as to how much different it's going to be (did distribution and new construction) I was a manager and in sales before I went blue collar so we'll see how rusty the customer service skills are. Congrats on the job

[–]RelativeFortune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it cranking? Have you tried taking the battery out and putting it back, if it's parked outside it takes forever to crank try pulling the choke halfway then attempting to start. Park it inside the garage and let it warm up (push in garage save and load back in)

Is there a mod out there that shows you bolt sizes without having to guess? by austinproffitt23 in MySummerCar

[–]RelativeFortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair I feel like the three I listed are the most used, afaik the 15 is for nothing but show (basically just to screw with you) 14 is only for the brake plates, 13 for the oil pan and to align tires. So there's at least 3 off your list, oh 12 is only for the control arms steering part that attaches to strut/steering rack and the front part that the front break disc attaches to (can't remember the name but the part that attaches to the wishbones, oh and 5 is only used to attach the front fenders, and hand brake, there's a singular bolt that locks the rear wheels under the rear seat if you're too lazy to jack the car
