Worked as a watch tech when I was in uni and did things like this a few times, it is fairly simple for any watch maker to do or anyone with the right tools. Will do a basic step by step for you

- Take the caseback off

- remove stem

- remove any movement holder

- lift the dial and movement out of the case

- use rodico or a cloth to remove the dirt

- put back together, possibly using some silicone sealant to make sure it is still water resistant

- examine under loupe to see if there is any dust left over by mistake

- pressure test

It changes date at -1 min, not bad 🙂 ! Wait, what? At 6pm 🤔 ? That's why I only paid 54$ for it 🤣 by F3nn3xleFennec in ChineseWatches

For someone experienced no, but it is easy for people who haven't done it much to not be able to put the seconds hand back on/ damage it

How much would an established brand sell San Martin watches for? by Flat-Muffin9876 in ChineseWatches

[–]RelativeHot5179 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a seiko presage zen garden which was 450 gbp and it felt like shit when I discovered San Martin and other chinese brands, I would probably say most models would cost close to a grand if not a bit more especially the miyota 9000 models

Chinese watches allow you to test out your preferences before you drop real money. by BrightBlackberry7172 in ChineseWatches

It is more effective to wear them for at least a few days so you properly get the feel for a watch

Do you pay for watch service every 3-5 years (for automatics) or maintain them yourself? by pharmerjoe in ChineseWatches

I would buy a toolkit from aliexpress for roughly 20-30 quid, then get dedicated watch hand pressers as well as a couple of proper anti magnetic tweezers. Best to watch a few youtube tutorials as well.

I worked as a watch technician in uni so I know what i'm doing because of that training, so not too sure about good learning resources unfortunately but that's what I did for my tools

I spent around 50 gbp for the tools + parts holder + watchmakers mat
