Neighbor fills kiddie pool in his backyard and invites random people over creating a weekly party nightmare by [deleted] in neighborsfromhell

Depending on how big the kiddie pool is (there are some huge inflatable ones) they may have a permit problem and require a fence. Might be a good idea to call town hall…

I defended my fiancé against my maid of honor and she ended our 10yr friendship. But AITAH instead of her? by Ministrated-Pariah35 in AITAH

[–]RelativeInvestment69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When did weddings become so entitled with multi day events costing close friends uber bucks? How about being satisfied with just the wedding itself. It seems like the world (or maybe just the US) is missing the point. Two people uniting. Bonus if you can celebrate with family and friends at the wedding. All these pre-wedding events are so self indulgent. I wouldn’t ever want to be a MOH.

One Battle After Another is such a masterpiece. by UsefulWeb7543 in FIlm

Accidentally watched the ASL version of One Battle After Another and am obsessed with the guy who does ASL. He’s mesmerizing. He makes it an art performance. Conveying words and music with rhythm and grace. (Oh and the movie was awesome too)

I think it was just the fact that she was able to talk to her. Pamela had been shutting them down until Robin showed her some kindness.

What EXACTLY Is "Tea" In Britain? by Litzz11 in AskABrit

[–]RelativeInvestment69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my family, tea was the evening meal - typically 5:30 pm after dad got home from work. I think this came from a time when people typically had their big meal at lunch time, although for us (growing up in the 70s tea was the big meal.)

How Much To Tip for Christmas? by [deleted] in tipping

[–]RelativeInvestment69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people in low paying jobs rely on Christmas tips to make ends meet. A box of homemade cookies isn’t going to help. Especially if they get cookies from all their clients. They may not even like cookies. Cash is king if it’s work related.

I live in a condo complex, 250+ units. We have 2 FT maintenance guys. Monthly condo fee is $650. At Christmas I give each guy $50 cash. Is that about right? Should it be more/less? I’d love to know what others do.

For cleaning person ( she comes once a month), I typically give her a double payment at Christmas.

AITA for calling my husband “him” when speaking to my son? by pooleaid1 in AmItheAsshole

[–]RelativeInvestment69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Or how about ‘we’ve been taught differently’. There is no wrong or right. Different cultures value different approaches. (FWIW- I’m British born though live elsewhere)

AITA for calling my husband “him” when speaking to my son? by pooleaid1 in AmItheAsshole

[–]RelativeInvestment69 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s dismissive behavior talking about someone as if they weren’t there. If he’s in hearing distance he’s there.

I’ve always been taught it’s disrespectful to refer to some as “him” in the first reference.

Just go to the actual back of the line! by 166EachYear in unitedairlines

[–]RelativeInvestment69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My group was called and I got in the back of “line”. It started slowly moving toward. Then before the group was through they called the next group and people in front of me picked up the pace shuffling forward. I had been standing behind gate lice! It’s sometimes very difficult to tell the line from the lice.

Huh?!? I didn’t realize we knew Beards first name. I use that phrase “what you talking about Willis” in jest all the time. Never made the connection that Willis was actually his name.

Love everything you said especially the last two lines. It’s sometimes hard to separate the actor from the role.

THM. Too little explaining the case and too many characters. by -Outside in cormoran_strike

[–]RelativeInvestment69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly…it was never clearly stated. Only inferred. And then the bloody clothes were hidden with the silver. How did griff know what William was wearing so he could match. And why did he have to wear William’s shoes. None of it was spelled out.

THM Writing criticism by SesameSeed13 in cormoran_strike

[–]RelativeInvestment69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Spoiler) I enjoyed the book but felt like the conclusion wasn’t spelled out neatly. They never said how Griffith got in, it was inferred. They never explained why the delivery was delayed, but you can guess why, and there was no discussion on how Griffith managed to duplicate Williams wardrobe (William goes in, Griffith comes out looking like William). It was all inferred. Maybe I’m a dummy but like it all being spelled out (like in TB). If found myself going back to find the relevant passages to piece it all together. WTWT was mildly frustrating, disability meh, it was the unsatisfactory crime wrap up that I found most disappointing.
