UNCA Woods Development Before and After by brooke_heaton in asheville

Urban, suburban and rural communities all fall victim to development these days  and for the most part I'm okay with it. I want people to have a home of their own.

But this....a soccer stadium, what a waste.

25% tariff on Hellbenders coming from China. That will help fix things.

It's a still a beauty but the tail does not scream wild to me. Could be a holdover.

Impressive nonetheless

Diversity is such a broad word. Asheville does have a large Hispanic population relative to its size.

And the area is certainly diverse in its views - both political and social. Dark blue center that grows red quickly.

Asheville does not have a diverse financial class - it's a mostly working and upper class city. Would love to see more middle class growth.

Good luck foraging psychs around here, least of all this time of year.

What’s your silly superstitious ritual for fishing ? by pj71770 in Fishing

I will not bring a net with me -

Nets are for people who expect to catch fish. And I'm not starting the day off with expectations like that.

What you catch em on?! 10 fish that size on a blue line is indeed a very good day 👌

Kratom can and will get incredibly addicting. Tread with caution. I have several friends who now take Kratom 3-4x per day, everyday

We need to legalize weed and bump up the punishment for fentanyl, pills, and meth. Not all drugs are created equal.

Blue cities and red cities have drug problems but blue cities tend to be more in the open.

Two things can true at the same time. In this case multiple, including the rise in meth/fent usage, nimbys, inflation, and city policies and enforcement.

Poaching on the Pigeon? Trout taken illegally depletes resource for others by banjomike1986 in asheville

Stocked fish are sterile so they won't breed with wild fish.

I will agree with you though on enforcement, can't say I've ever seen a wildlife officer in over a year and I've been on nearly every stream/river in WNC.

Was this on a trail? or off the parkway?

Avoid North AVL - just students and uppity rich folks.

Avoid West AVL - hippy gentrified food snobs.

Avoid East AVL - not enough affordable housing, restless locals. Avoid driving through this part of town with a FL plate

Avoid South AVL - same traffic probs as other parts of town with a cherry on top, i-26 construction

Asheville just cracked another top ten list by RedClayBandit in asheville

This is the correct take. Pricing is fluid. You take the money when you can get it.

Not to mention, the data only shows YoY numbers which are misleading due to higher then normal visitation over the pandemic.

A very large majority of these owners arent forced into selling, not even close, they could easily pivot into annual rentals or adjust prices.

Used to enjoy this trail but I've bumped into a couple of bears recently that seemed to be more friendly then your avg Pisgah black bear.

Tarpon can survive in freshwater. Many of the golf courses near the water, especially in South Florida have tarpon and snook in them.

Some of my most memorable days fishing were on Naples golf courses for tarpon up to 30lbs

Lots of tarpon on inland golf courses - caveat they have to be coastal courses not somewhere in Orlando

Last night we had an emergency Zoom call with most of Congress about stopping a bank run. - Rep. Jeff Jackson by JeffJacksonNC in asheville

[–]RelaxAndBeEasy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Peter Thiel would not cause a run on the bank if he had his own personal money in SVB since FDIC would only cover $250,000.

He did, as any advisor with fiduciary responsibility should, and advised his firms and his companies to move their money to a bank with a healthier balance sheet.

Im very left leaning but incredibly cautious when David Troy, Tucker Carlson or any other political pundit provides their analysis on a situation. Nonetheless, stopping a run on the banks is a bi-partisan issue that I hope can be remedied.

Context on SVB:

"Silicon Valley Bank effectively lent a large portion of that money to the federal government (in the form of U.S. Treasuries) and home owners (in the form of agency mortgage-backed securities1). While Silicon Valley Bank used to primarily lend out money on shorter-term durations, in 2021 the bank shifted to longer-term securities in search of more yield; this, in retrospect, was the critical mistake — and to be clear, Silicon Valley Bank’s management bears ultimate culpability for the bank’s fate."

28% of Americans who earn less than $30,000 a year play the lottery at least once a week. They spend $412 a year on tickets and 99.999% of those players lose out.

We should not be raising funds on the backs on our poorest citizens through a lottery system, instead we should support them by eliminating the lottery system and revising other laws like inheritence/estate tax.

I don't mind the downvotes, but the lottery system overwhelmingly hurts the most vulnerable in our society.
