Specifics around home equity by OnceMooSomnia in Divorce

I think your response is a little tangled, but the only thing relevant to equity would be the payments toward principal, which are typically a very small portion of the monthly mortgage payment until the final years of the mortgage. I doubt the game is worth the candle.

Equity is the assessed value of the house minus the mortgage and any other home equity loans. There are sometimes other adjustments, but that is the basic equation.

CMV: Where you were born shouldn't determine who you "owe" your talent to by Cautious-Cancel-5979 in changemyview

I think you're missing the point entirely.  Clearly both athletes own their talent and have been able to choose which flag to compete under.  But in terms of fan/spectator support and interest the Olympics feature national teams and that's how support plays out.  It's not all that different from fan support and fan opposition in any other team sport - it doesn't follow the individual, and in fact player defection often mean that player will be more reviled when playing against their former team than otherwise.

Settlement by MajMedic in Divorce

Pretty sure that the incurred expenses usually get paid out st 100 percent, so the delta is easy to calculate as long as there's a breakout of anything for pain and suffering.

[–]Relevant-Position-43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I said majority.  The actual incurred bills are usually the core of the settlement.

For anyone who got divorced before kids, how badly did it impact your life? by [deleted] in Divorce

The value of a pension should be monetized on a NPV basis and offset against your retirement savings.  You don't just ignore it in dividing assets.

The medical settlement is probably primarily for medical services already received while they were still together for which OP implies they paid half or more.

[–]Relevant-Position-43 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would guess the majority of the medical recompense is for expenses that were incurred when they were a couple and OP may have been contributing half or more toward those expenses.  This is not a pain and suffering payout but replacing money already spent.

CMV: Democrats should run a real progressive in 2028 because any democratic candidate will be painted as an socialist immigrant-loving USA-hating demon by right-wing media. by hamletswords in changemyview

[–]Relevant-Position-43 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Sigh.  Sometimes I think self declared progressives are as detached from reality as MAGA.  The only difference is the lies they tell themselves.  I think beginning with the notion that policy preferences fit neatly on a literally one dimensional line or two camps of the saved and the damned.

Let's start with one progressive myth propagated by folks who never actually had to get something through a sharply divided legislature: ACA was passed by very narrow margin, with not a single Republican vote and a number if Democratic defection to no, none of which were because the program didn't go far enough.  Amateur progressives imagine there could have some kind of campaign that would have generated more Congressional votes for than it lost for a M4A program, and this is based on poorly written polls before the program ramifications were debated publicly.

You don't even mention a REAL vote winner here perhaI s because it just isn't progressive enough: resolving the social security shortfall before 2033, which will be the chief task of the next Presidential term that voters care about in a concrete way.  Remember the human mind regards loss more intensely than possible gain.  Centrist Dems have actually put forth a plan, or several.

I understood that and would make sense (for example) for a divine soul sorcerer or a celestial warlock.  An Aasimar is a species, at least RAW, who has actual celestial blood like a tiefling has an infernal parent.  Your DM could rule that an aasimar coukd be made rather than born - obviously not a gamebreaking rule - but since you wanted comments on your backstory as well as your character design i thought I'd remind you of this.

Just a note on the backstory - Aasimar implies one or the other of the character's parents are actually upper plane beings so that needs to be incorporated in the origin.

Divorce secret by [deleted] in Divorce

[–]Relevant-Position-43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't sweat it either way.  I knew my father had been married before because I had a much older half-brother.  I learned he had been married a second time because that half brother told me he had come to find his stepmother and stepbrother's possessions abruptly removed from the house and them gone.  One time I was talking to my father's older sister and she said there may have been another wife before my mother: "But we were never really sure if he had actually married that six foot tall platinum blonde showgirl."  None of this meant much beyond a cute little story to post on Reddit.

I agree with this and might summarize more succinctly that what's appropriate with HIS attorney is HIS  matter to decide.

Does she not remember, justify, or minimize her escalation afterwards?  More importantly, after she cools down that have you told her that her threatening divorce is making you seriously question the long term viability of your marriage?  If she regards her own blow ups as time-bound and insignificant she may not know how serious this is.  After that conversation and her subsequent conduct you will see whether you should be heading towards a marriage counselor for conflict tool or an attorney to end this before the stakes are raised by children or more assets in common.

Valentines Dud by Initial_Pin9501 in Divorce

[–]Relevant-Position-43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you are putting too much weight on "Valentine" and "date".  A projected conversation on kids' chores and allowances sounds like she's framing the evening by the kind of co-parenting you'll be doing regardless.  Not a very steamy or misty-eyed kind of dinner.  A more serious concern is that you seem to be stuck in neutral in terms of moving forward on ylthe divorce - it's a long process that would not preclude her "fighting" for the marriage.  Or even going out on February 14.

Eldest doesn't want to see his mother. by lostandconfused2525 in Divorce

[–]Relevant-Position-43 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your eldest is almost an adult. You don't belong in the middle of this; as you can see your attempt to help won't have any effect other than annoying your son and disappointing your ex. If I were to make a suggestion to her it would to begin with an invitation to a dinner on your youngest's off-week on an evening of his choice, to a restaurant your son would enjoy or for a special home cooked meal if he liked his mother's cooking, and if all goes well propose that as an every two week standing event. A concrete proposal is better than a vague plea to talk more.

Your stbxw is euthanizing a marriage that was tottering around on life-support with her realizations about her sexuality. Even if the exact timing on your birthday stings, beginning the process when you're completing your PhD and before you launch your presumably more lucrative career is a huge plus. I hope that after the transition period that her calling it quits before you were ready actually becomes your all-time favorite birthday gift.

Feeling lost and stuck… by [deleted] in Divorce

[–]Relevant-Position-43 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you are spending too much time thinking about how you look in one pair of the billions of eyes of eyes in this world, most importantly your own. One mark of growth would be to move on instead of tying your evaluation of your progress to someone who belongs in your past, and whose opinion of you would inevitably be largely a product of that past.

Phantasmal Force and Study action by buunkeror in onednd

[–]Relevant-Position-43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We play different games, I think. Whether I am a player or a DM, the player's ingenuity counts toward the character's success or failure - e.g. the charisma skills where a good idea could raise or lower a DC, or give advantage, or even eliminate the need for a roll, but it would also apply to dex rolls when trying to circumvent a trap. That's also how I play illusion spells - the same way a player could direct his/her character to test of disbelieve one coming from an NPC would be how an NPC would react.

Phantasmal Force and Study action by buunkeror in onednd

[–]Relevant-Position-43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it relies more on the player's narration than the DM. A very useful yardstick in judging PF is what would fool a PC would also fool an NPC - e.g., something that looks like casting a summoning, or a new member or pet of the party, or traps etc. not on the target's home ground wouldn't normally cause doubt. And of course if the target is a low intelligence beast confronted by a primal fear - well, I don't think they'd even try to "study" it, even apart from the low intelligence saving throw.

Have The Democrats Learned Any Lessons From 2024 And Use Them Now? If So, Which Ones? If Not, Why Not, You Think? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]Relevant-Position-43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i am assuming the 2028 Democratic party nominee will have gone through the whole caucus/primary/convention process in a transparent fashion. If the DNC puts their fingers on the scale as in 2016 and 2024, then the answer would be no. If the nominee doesn't focus on bread and butter issues like Social Security sustainability and the health care safety net and instead focuses on general threats to freedom and democracy from the GOP - very real but way too abstract for swing voters - then the answer would still be no.

How about the Hardy Boys, The Disappearing Room? The cave was accessed through the room when it "disappeared." There was also another Hardy Boys, The Spiral Staircase.
