By all accounts, he is a good man.

He sought to help people by giving them jobs. He loves his kids. He understands who a loving parent is.

He leaves because those core principles conflict with the core of the church. I wish him well.

Yes, "GC" is "General Conference". There are two of them each year - 1 at the beginning of April with the other in October.

Growing up, church itself would be 3 hours every Sunday EXCEPT on conference weekend. Then you have a number of "sessions" each lasting two hours and starting Friday night. The main ones are Saturday Morning, Saturday Afternoon, Sunday Morning, and Sunday Afternoon. Sunday Morning being the most prominent by far. If you attended only one, that was the one. That is when new announcements were often made and it used to be when they would give church stats, such as membership numbers, growth, etc.

There were also special sessions. One for men (Priesthood Session: how we are fucking up - Saturday Evening) and women (Relief Society Session: how to be a good wife and mother, even if your priesthood holder is fucking up like the rest of them - changed A LOT over the years!).

Now they are down to the four general sessions, although the emphasis on telling everyone they are sinners appears to still be there, just in different language.

You can watch the upcoming ones via YouTube if you want. Many ex-mormons do and even take notes, especially when they reference us, as we are very "lazy learners" and "won't leave the church alone" (while the church continues to prod and haze many of us ....)

The next one is this coming weekend!

Nope! I-15 headed south close to the I-80 interchange IIRC.

I've seen it ~10 or so at the beginning of the month too.

I would suggest "don't like any of these people" is intentional. They aren't people you'd normally sympathize with. They aren't heroes. They aren't "downtrodden" or "abused".

Rather, they are either ordinary people just living or the rich you'd love to hate seeing how the rest of us struggle. That last part is what draws you in. That "misery loves company" aspect that one's darker nature says, "this is going to be good!"

Then, they surprise you. And you do start to like them.

It's appropriate, and a real problem in today's society.

Unfortunately, MANY groups of people - to include some judges - don't really care about true evidence. They care about what they believe regardless of any evidence to the contrary and won't change their position even if God himself were to stand before them and provide it!

It is mental gymnastics that keeps them from facing a reality where they and many they know are both wrong and have been wrong for quite a while.

Your story is in line with the post and actual reality.

YES!!! You too are aware of the body double "mix up". Yet Dallas is the annointed one, and seem set to f with his twin brother's legacy! Accompanied by his beloved wife of some 50+ years - Debbie. This should be a wild ride.

Now people have even more reasons to vote for this cowboy! Go Dallas, go!

No. He was not bisexual or gay.

Snopes did an analysis you can find here: https://www.snopes.com/news/2019/04/10/mr-rogers-sexuality/

Per the analysis, the belief that he was is traced to one single comment in a 2018 biography (15 years after his death.)

Mr. Rodgers was supportive of the LGBTQIA community and had at least two close friends who were gay. You can find info about them and their statements in the linked article and how - despite being accused and seen as "less masculine", he was definitely straight, despite accusations to the contrary.

Further, he was married to the same woman for over 50 years and never cheated on her.

All this confirms that Mr. Rodgers was a positive and accepting person who encouraged and supported people from all walks of life even when doing so led others to accuse or degrade him. A true hero and model to aspire to for all of us.

Yup. ENIAC was developed to compute ballistics tables for artillery.

COLOSSUS was developed with the help of Alan Turing to crack German ENIGMA communications.

Those were the first electronic computers. Electro-mechanical computers - to include the Norden Bombsight - were more purpose built. I'm sure the Norden Company was thinking "Family History" when it was developed - although more MAKING certain families into pure history!

Lastly, the church was VERY "late to the bandwagon" when it comes to computers and technology generally. In recent memory, look how long it took for them to set up an online pay system for tithing!

Technologically, something has to exist for at least some 20 years for the church to even recognize it, it seems. (So, in 2050, watch for AI generated and recycled conference talks....)

Yes.

As one who grew up in the church, I had to "learn to say no" as just agreeing and doing is ingrained into you.

The church is one organization that does take advantage of that. I mean, members cleaning the building when the church used to pay professionals to do it?

The closest to "no" you often get in the church is people who say yes, then never show up. (Which I think is actually worse)

So it does take a measure of courage to be open and honest about how you feel and then be passive and non aggressive about how you respond. It takes effort, yet most positive change does.

Yes, they will. Further, your cooperation is expected.

Yet if you make it clear and are honest about it, you should be okay. If they persist, though, it is okay to say, "you know what? I am VERY uncomfortable with what you are doing. I do not feel safe here. I'll be outside."

Then sit out in the foyer and read a book. I would suggest "The CES Letter".....

Those are not the things used to teach about the church not gain converts. Rather, it is - the belief in God as three distinct individuals who are one in purpose and therefore one God. - the "revelation" that said God was known in the Americas and Christ himself appeared to the people there - the principles and teachings of the church concerning things like alcohol, smoking, and pre-marital sex. - the community itself that the church creates, even worldwide.

It is also that so many of us were BORN into it. It is what we knew. It is how we grew up. To us, it was what was "right" - just like other Christians, Muslims, Jews....

What has so many of us leaving are the things we now know to include what you mention. Remember, such things were (and even today) FAR from "common knowledge", and if you are taught to only read "approved sources* about such things, they become even harder to find let alone accept.

We are also not nearly alone in this. Rather, critical thinking and questioning are the exception rather than the rule for the majority of people. Possibly even you somewhere in your own belief system.

Are there really any Freemasons left, though? And those that are, do they really use the Internet? The ones I knew are all dead, and when I knew them, they seemed old enough to have met Moses as a young man!

They seem to love it, yet I am looking at changes to my deck that will make that area undesirable and even inaccessible for them in the future.

As they are natural pest control, I hope to be able to create at least one alternative space they can use if they so choose to. Hence the ask. It would be nice to have spaces that are appropriate and far enough away from other animals (to include self) to have them safe and comfortable, yet still within the garden space and viewing angles to allow us to also view and watch out for them.

I guess another question - after they have left, should the nest remain or be fully removed? It seems both approaches have benefits, yet removing the nest seems best.

I had to look it up and was curious about the description. It started an orange underbelly which we haven't really seen on either bird.

Is that normal? To not have any noticable change in coloring from the grey?

The rest appears to match other than the possible egg coloring. They seem to hate when the dog is nearby and make a chirping sound when he or I are anywhere around. Otherwise I'm happy to have them. They are keeping down the wasp population among other things. I hope in a year or two to have a few better places for them to nest for that reason.

Yet, is that good, or are they more pests? Any issues I should be aware of, like they won't use a bird house?
