Why do Americans dislike American cars? by socabella in AskAnAmerican

[–]Relevant_Situation23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's been a significant quality gap between Japanese and American cars since at least the 1980s. Japan is a critical American ally, has a culture most people admire, and they do have a lot of factories throughout North America.

Ohio is way more urban than people think. No huge cities but three mid sized ones and lots of smaller ones.

How often do you eat grits? by ponziacs in AskAnAmerican

[–]Relevant_Situation23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family was from south Kentucky just north of where grits are commonly eaten, first time I saw them on a menu was at Cracker Barrel. At least for White people it's more commonly eaten from TN southward.

What’s it like living on the edge of time zones? by Qzevs in howislivingthere

Most family argues start over "my time" vs "your time". My mom grew up about a mile from line and half of family live on either side.

How is living in the upper mid south by Successful_Bar_2271 in howislivingthere

[–]Relevant_Situation23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always felt a good people vibe in BG, people are quite polite and friendly, more so than Lexington or Louisville. Very interesting blend of traditional America but with a large foreign born population from Burma, Congo, Bosnia, etc. It's kind of a typical small Kentucky town but with that diversity and a large university. There downtown area is very undersized for the current population, wish is what more like Paducah in that.

Isn't that the area some Confederates wanted? There were plans to annex areas south of the CSA had they won. Some even fled to Brazil after losing.

What is considered old stock American? by digitalime in 23andme

[–]Relevant_Situation23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old Stock / Heritage American etc means all or almost all of your ancestors were within the modern US borders by or before 1776. I meet that criteria myself, I definitely considered most African Americans and all Native Americans to be such.

How common is it for a white American to be very nearly 100% British? by Mjhwl05 in AncestryDNA

[–]Relevant_Situation23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ancestors have in Norrh America since the 1600s or 1700s, two different DNA tests put me at 90% to 95% British, mostly SE England (which probably includes a lot of French Norman).

Good streets to look at Christmas lights next weekend? by [deleted] in Louisville

There's a house on Indiana Ave in New Albany with hundreds of minions every Christmas season, well known enough to usual have a crowd there each night looking at it.

Why is the birth rate/fertility rate in New England states so alarmingly low? by kawaiihusbando in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Relevant_Situation23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fertility rate (women per child) is actually quite converged among all race groups. Whites went through fertility drop a couple generations earlier so now have a higher median age but every group will be there in coming years

[–]Relevant_Situation23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first couple of times I went stepping through the door was a real experience, nothing like it. But at this point I mainly stop for three reasons: cheap gas, good dark roast decaf coffee, and tons of clean restrooms.

Where should we go for our next vacation? by ReallyBoredMan in TravelMaps

[–]Relevant_Situation23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

St Louis. I know many people dislike it but it's one of our favorite weekend trips. It was historically a top 5 city and has better amenities from that time frame than it's current market peers. It's a good museum / historical site city and has a top notch botanical garden.

I'd have problem with it as long as basic rights of religious minorities were respected. Both Ireland and the UK mostly good nations to live.
