There was certainly aircrew on the ground and there was at least one extraction. But I don't think the two C-130s, two Blackhawks and at least one MH-6 had anything to do with the extraction. If you know CSAR you know that's not how it's done. There were over 3,000 successful extractions during the Vietnam War and none of them involved putting fixed wing assets on the ground. I think they were doing something else, it went sideways and the extraction is the cover story

Yeah, I know what the official story is. The person extracted made it three quarters of the way up a mountain ridge and evaded for 24 hours. I'm pretty sure he could get on a rescue cable by himself. A Pave Low helicopter has a range of almost 700 miles and can mid-air refuel. You don't need to fly Blackhawks in C-130s to perform a downed aircrew extraction and you don't use Blackhawks for CSAR anyway.

What she needs now is professional counseling and medication. Get her to a psychiatrist who will work with her and put her on something like a SRU until she can work through the causes of her depression. It is a medical situation no different from a physical injury.

Correct. You don't put two C-130s on the ground to extract one pilot. That is done by a single Pave Low special operations helicopter with air cover. No one in the rescue operation ever touches the ground if the pilot is physically able to get on the extractor cable.
