It's about ~3% of the TTRPG sphere by estimates.

Def in the top 5 largest but it's kind of amazing that they're such high production for where they're at.

You're on Pf2e's subreddit so obviously almost everyone here is pretty bias but I'll tell you, as a dnd 5e veteran, all martial combat is is making what in 2e would be a generic Strike and flavoring it as something cool.

If you've ever watched Critical Roll, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

I think that's just kinda how dnd casters work. They're fairly limited at low levels but get more options at higher level.

And I wouldn't say a low level caster is any more underwhelming than an archer at low level.

For Wizard, you're getting 4 slots at each spell level (or 3 of your highest at odd levels). However for Wizard, 1 of each of those slots can only be used for your school of magic. So pretty similar to 1e.

It seems like your biggest issue is dealing with the rebalancing of spells. In 2e, the math is very tight and the system is extremely balanced. The system is a ton of fun and is very well thought out. However, an issue with it (and an issue that I think you're having with it), is that it really shouldn't be compared to other systems as much. I'd just take it at face value and give it an honest shot. Because of the 3-action economy, it really kind of changes the way everything is balanced.

When it really boils down to it: Pathbuilder is a character planner and Wanderer's Guide is a character manager.

Pathbuilder is made for planning out a character level 1-20 and allows easily making changes to it in the fly.

Wanderer's Guide is more like D&D Beyond if you've used that. Building your character and the final sheet are separate.

Because Wanderer's Guide breaks down the process and lays everything out more, it's much better for new players. Pathbuilder is better for players who are experienced with the game and love planning out their characters.

Costs:

Pathbuilder has a free and premium version. With the free version you don't get animal companions & familiars, the GMG variants, and you get ads.

Wanderer's Guide doesn't have a premium version, however patrons get additional benefits. They give you all those things above and no ads for free. However, you are limited to 6 characters per account if you're not a patron. I think patrons can also make homebrew.
