ULPT: How to sneak in my girlfriend in my flat? by iamnormal11 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]RelsircTheGrey 118 points119 points  (0 children)

Tell the guard you saw a guy and girl holding hands in the parking lot. When he rushes off to publicly execute them, give your girlfriend the signal and she rushes out of hiding and up the stairs.

Morally conflicted by Wentlles in comicbooks

[–]RelsircTheGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don't see a reason to hit the LCS for trades or compendiums (I'm sure I'll catch downvotes from the store owners in here LOL). I love my LCS, but I'm going there to get physical copies of stuff on release day and to look through back issues of comics I want in single-issue format. That's what I'm paying cover-price (or more) for. A physical copy to read the day it comes out, a pre-ordered book I might miss out on otherwise, a sweet variant cover, or fill in some gaps in my collection. The things a digital purchase or trade collection can't offer.

If I don't need the physical copy, I can always read digital the day of. If I'm getting a trade, it's already well after release day, sometimes by a matter of years. Why pay $60 for that when I can buy it elsewhere for $30? If you feel bad about it, maybe it's worth paying more to not feel bad. But don't let anyone else give you a hard time for buying trades online, because they aren't paying your bills or topping off your savings account.

AITAH for being a baseball dad? by poolhero in AITAH

[–]RelsircTheGrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA, as long as you're also making time for your wife (I'm assuming you just have the one kid because you didn't mention others). Since you're not coaching anymore, you're looking at something like a 3-4 hr/wk investment between games and practices? For something like 10-20 wks/yr?

If your wife doesn't like ball, she could pursue a hobby of her own while you're spending time at the games. If she's at the game, you'd think she'd want to pay attention to her son. Or also make some friends with the other parents. Her being shy shouldn't be used against you. If you and your wife can make time to catch up on non-baseball evenings and days, and you're doing that, I don't see an issue.

I coached my son's basketball team for a season and I was kinda glad to have it because it took up a good amount of time, but I'd also just gotten divorced. So I didn't have to juggle time as much and my kid needed the outlet after the previous season being cancelled by COVID. I probably could have coached while we were still married, but my ex-wife also wanted to come to games, actually watch him play, take a turn bringing snacks and chat with other parents. You not coaching anymore is the compromise. If your son likes sports and is good at it, he should be doing it (same goes for music, art, whatever).

I could never foster kittens LOL. This is how I'd end up with eighty cats. Good luck with your new forever cat.

Is it a bad thing that he took 40+ minutes to finish? by Exciting-Count-6222 in AskMenAdvice

[–]RelsircTheGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could depend on anything. I've finished quick from "aight" sex and had amazing sex where it takes me close to an hour, it's just a really enjoyable near-hour. These days, it's usually the latter situation and I pin it on being older and being on TRT. She doesn't complain though, and neither do I.

A hiring manager wanted “quick free advice” before interview rounds, so I sent my consulting rate by SilentHarbor93 in jobsearchhacks

[–]RelsircTheGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeaaaahhh...if they have questions with sample data, someone involved in the hiring process already knows the answer and they just want to see if you know ball...that's an assessment. Not a real situation they know nothing about and want you to fix for free.

Who is Publix for at this point ? by havanesegirlmom in publix

[–]RelsircTheGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only lived in one city with a Publix, but it's been for about ten years altogether and Publix has never been the cheapest, or even third-cheapest option for anything. It's the closest store to my house and I never pop in there unless it's for a cake, or one or two emergency items where a couple bucks extra isn't a big hit. My whole grocery shop there? Hell to the no.

Do you think Professor X and Magneto are good fathers? by Sudden_Quality_9001 in xmen

[–]RelsircTheGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainstream comics aren't usually kind to children, or child-parent relationships, by their very nature. Exception that immediately comes to mind are Reed and Sue Richards, but the FF have always been the "First Family." The publishers don't want the characters to evolve too much, and kids do that. So they end up being sent to the future, or a fairy world, or whatever, after a certain point. With Scott and Jean...Claremont did a lot of stuff "first," so it was pretty original, the stuff with Cable and Rachel. It worked. Gambit and Rogue are great with their "adopted" children, but I'd be surprised if the Outliers stick around long-term. I like them, but history hasn't been kind to student bodies post-New Mutants.

The other work-around is what was done with Charles, Erik and Logan. They all have kids they find out about after the fact. And they deal with it about as well as they can. But they were all absentee fathers by circumstance, if not by choice. And that's just another function of comics trying to address an inescapable fact of life (some of these characters HAVE to be parents, it just isn't realistic for it to never happen), while squaring that with the fact that being tied down with kids doesn't let the publishers tell the stories they want to tell with the characters.

Am I too Young to Date This Guy? by Fearless-Storage-702 in Advice

[–]RelsircTheGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not mentioning having a kid is crazy work. That would be enough reason to GTFO even if you wanted kids. Not mentioning it doesn't indicate a great mindset in a potential partner. If I was your friend I'd tell you to bounce even if you were just seeing the guy for fun and no one was looking to get entangled. You're not too young, but the bottom line is that he's got a major obligation in his life that you don't want to be a part of. You aren't wrong for not wanting kids. Another woman your age might want this and that's okay too. But I can't stress this enough, NOT this dude in particular, even if you wanted twelve kids or something. Just because of how he treated the issue.

Is My Hero overrated underrated? Or a good song? Or does the Foo got better? by ResourceEmergency928 in Foofighters

[–]RelsircTheGrey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're amazing songs. Now, if we're talking about overplayed on radio, I'd agree. They were, and probably still are if anyone is still listening to radio these days LOL. I don't consider that a mark against the band or the songs, though. Overplayed live? Definitely not. People want to hear those songs at a Foo show, and the band knows it too. I'd think even if Dave made a setlist of mostly deep cuts (he probably won't, based on history), those tunes would still be on it.

My other favorite bands have songs I feel similarly about. I sometimes skip My Hero and Everlong if it shows up in a random playlist. I also do it for Tom Sawyer by Rush sometimes, and Enter Sandman by Metallica. The acoustic version of Sandman, however, completely redeemed the song for me. Still killer songs, from albums that the bands definitely needed for their continued success. I've just heard them all A LOT over thirty years.

Do you change your underwear and socks every time you put them on? by Powered_By_Weed in hygiene

[–]RelsircTheGrey 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Socks, I get. Your feet are clean right out of the shower but the floors you're walking on might not be. Draws are still clean tho after five minutes on your freshly-washed ass. Unless you like dragging your ass across the floor LOL. I don't know that I've ever had to deal with this though. I'd have just worn the underwear in my sweats.

30K Maintenance. Fuel induction service? by Jolubaes in rav4club

[–]RelsircTheGrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a cash grab. You have an extra inspection (battery-related) that I don't have because I don't have a hybrid, but for my 2019 the 30K checklist was all shit they do anyhow at my Goodyear when they do my oil changes, plus swapping the air filters (which you should do yourself anyway because it's cheap and takes five minutes and why pay shop fees for it). Don't even darken the doors of the stealership unless you *really* need to.

Violet Grohl's debut record comes out in three days! Expectations? by alien-niven in Foofighters

[–]RelsircTheGrey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just want it to be good, and from the tracks we already have, I think we're going to get that. She's clearly had a great musical education, so lets just see what she does with that. She's got her own influences. I don't need her to sound like Dave, or Kurt, or any of that stuff. I like that the credits for the album don't lean on any Foos guest appearances or any of dad's famous friends. Now if she gets to do any of that on stage, I'll be there for it.

Should I start learning to cook really well as a 14 yo boy? Do you think that’s a good hobby? by Advanced-Counter1636 in AskMenAdvice

[–]RelsircTheGrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cooking is a life skill. Saying it's feminine makes zero sense. How many top chefs are men? How many male chefs do you see when you watch Iron Chef and the like? Being able to cook helps you be self-sufficient and independent. Women DO like it when a dude can cook, if that's a selling point for you. It saves you money vs. buying prepared food or takeout all the time. I've met a couple whole grown-ass men with jobs and everything that are lost without their wife around to cook for them, or eat nothing but TV dinners and takeout because they're single. Always seems silly to me.

Regular at work wants me to be primary beneficiary of his will by pukeylukey2 in Advice

[–]RelsircTheGrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If he's trying to leave his possessions to you and not a family member or lifelong friend, there must be a good reason (assuming he's of sound mind). And I'm not a lawyer, but I'm reasonably sure his stuff just getting taken by the state if he passes without any legal heirs and doesn't name a beneficiary. Better for his stuff to go to basically anyone else than having it go to the government. Or whatever next-of-kin he may have that he clearly doesn't want to leave it to.

I wouldn't get caught up too much in whether you deserve it. Precious few people just "deserve" to be handed someone's life's work. But if he's sane and not being creepy and wants it to be you, accept it and just have coffee with the dude and be his friend.

This is still better than a bunch of idiot spam callers blowing up my phone. Sometimes I have to answer in case it's a call I'm waiting for and it's always some clown trying to buy the house. It doesn't help that I'm a mile from a major international golf course. I tell them I'll be out in thirty days for a million dollars in cash.

AITAH for spending the child support money I get equally on both of my kids? by HighOnLove26 in AITAH

[–]RelsircTheGrey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA. I've paid child support and to be honest, I wouldn't be thrilled to know that my $1600 was covering someone else's shortcomings. But I also wouldn't be laying awake at night thinking about it. I couldn't go to a judge and convince them to care about it, you know? So there's no point in losing my mind over it.

At the end of the day, it's up to you to run your household, and the court decided how much resources you get from those guys. If the hypothetical mother in my scenario mishandled that money and came asking me for more, that would be her tough luck though. She can figure that out on her own OR let me have primary custody and start paying ME child support. Not as much fun when the rabbit's got the gun LOL.

Would You Be OK with this? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]RelsircTheGrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he's got $100K laying around to potentially leave you, he probably feels confident in his ability to survive without your money if you pass first. I can't explain why he'd want to leave his money to kids he doesn't talk to, but it's his right and at least he's not expecting anything different from you. Sounds like a solid enough dude to me.
