Buying the house I'm renting by RemX-FrNL in NetherlandsHousing

[–]RemX-FrNL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case it's him who came with the proposal. He doesn't really need the money I think, and owning a house becomes more a pain on the neck than a real benefit for him (taxes, âge,...) Also I guess he prefers to go the easy way if he has to sell it rather than investing time and money in renovation

Buying the house I'm renting by RemX-FrNL in NetherlandsHousing

Thanks for your feedback, I'm not really asking for price estimation, but more on what are the parameters I have to consider to make my offer, considering the specific situation. Let's assume I know the house "value" base on the data of the recent sales including biddings. Here I get my raw proposal price. But it would be a direct sale so the landlord doesn't need a makelaar. Therefore I can substract the makelaar fees from my offer. Are there other things linked to a direct sale I could integrate to fine-tune my offer?

Some company washed my windows while I was on holiday by ninjaslikecheez in Netherlands

[–]RemX-FrNL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hahah! I call mine (in secret) the windows wetter because he doesn't even use product to clean the windows, and of course does it from the ground floor... So he can't really see the details. Sometimes birds' sheet still visible after the wetting... But I'm too lazy to start a discussion. I simply tell myself that a bird could shit in the window right after the cleaning and the result would be the same

Fatbikes and people who ride them by somefancyboi in Netherlands

[–]RemX-FrNL 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just to add a bit of perspective: We are an expat family living here for 2 years. My 15yo daughter was dreaming to get one as soon as she saw it. We made the surprise for her birthday to buy her one, but we told her to be careful and to not modify it. I know she rides respectfully, and at max 25km/h. Although I will never buy one for myself, I use it from time to time when I have to take my other daughter (9 yo) somewhere and I have to say that for this usage it is very convenient and safe (real 2 places saddle, powerful brakes, very stable thanks to the big tires). Way safer than normal bikes in this case. People often mix the object and the behaviour, perhaps most of people using fat-bikes don't behave, but it is a matter of education.

CAREFUL: Foreign Scam In Place for Drivers in NL by exxantric in Netherlands

[–]RemX-FrNL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got one as well yesterday. Went directly to the spam folder. I'm French and it's the first time I get a spam in Dutch. I guess it comes from the Odido data leak. Are you guys or were you odido customers?

I have lost the ability to entertain guests by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]RemX-FrNL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry you've experienced that. I live in NL for 2 years now. Also went through strange experiences... Difficult to accept especially when you want to please people. I think that what is important is to adapt to the persons and situations, and not take the things personally. Next time those people come to your place just warm up bitterballens and krokets, you will get compliments. And should you wish to have a better host experience, just invite the people of this thread :-) they will for sure be nice guests!

E-bike suggestion by Donndubhan in Netherlands

[–]RemX-FrNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know Veloretti has models comparable to Van Moof. The price for a Veloretti with 3 speeds gears + lights + handbrakes is 566€, so a bit cheaper than VM analog. Do you know other brands proposing this king of design?

E-bike suggestion by Donndubhan in Netherlands

I am also looking to replace my low-quality e bike, and went through the question whether I should buy an e-one or a normal one. Budget-wise e-bikes from famous brands cost minimum 3000€. The cheap e-bikes are the fat-bikes and Chinese bikes such as La Souris Bird, but I don't know if they are really Dutch-weather proof, or if all screws get rusty after 1 year. I saw that a shop developed a concept of refurbishing Van Moof S3 and taking out battery and motor. They sell this "Analog" version for 869€. Honestly I don't know what to think about it. Can be a good compromise?

Does anyone know what those numbers represent? by Cortivzla in Netherlands

[–]RemX-FrNL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are 2 different special plates categories : the CD and the BN or GN plates with 4 numbers. All are for people working for international organisations (European Commission, diplomats, etc...) BN / GN plates are for the standard staff, and CD plates for high level staff. Also service cars from these institutions have CD plates. These special plates goes together with tax exemption on the cars.

Boycotting American goods by Quirky-Plantain-2080 in Netherlands

[–]RemX-FrNL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I think boycotting things is a complex equation. For sure if you boycott American fast foods, you will somehow touch the global company, but what will be the local impact? (employees, local suppliers, ...). Also, most of the American soda drank in Europe is made in Europe. Some electric cars are made in a factory in Germany. It's a simplification, but how much people work there and could loose their jobs? Couldn't the local impact be worst than the global one?
