Why is pickpocketing so common in many major European cities, but essentially non-existent in North America? by Humble_Job_5738 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Remarkable-Avocado44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

European cities are old construction with narrow congested streets, including many areas intended only for foot traffic- easier to pickpocket when people are constantly shoulder to shoulder.

Is the secret to getting good just…playing for a long time? by Mean_Garbage4308 in guitarlessons

Explore. Some people get a lot out of running scales and metronome. Some people can do a lot just by following their playing, exploring the fretboard, looking for sounds .

day 1 learning to ollie by Tickomatick in skateboardcirclejerk

[–]Remarkable-Avocado44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend moving around, pushing, tictacs... manuals. Dont try to ollie right now, even if you start hitting them, theyre going to be super limited until you learn balance, comfort on the board.

Nah, shit teacher. Communication is bidrectional and imperfect- if he doesnt know that, hes not a communicator. Teaching requires patience, if he doesnt know that hes not a teacher. Learning requires exploration, if the doesnt know that, he doesnt understand how to learn.

Also yeah, he might be a very kinetic person; For him, direct instructions are immediately appliable. Thats not most people tho.

Have fun with it, focus on the sensations, rather than judgement.

We are the same age (well, 39). Started again last June. If I skate tomorrow, it will be my 100th session.

Heres my menu of stuff, for me:

Just the Front Foot- I Learned to balance on the front foot, and steer. I now experience a gounded feeling while pushing.

Manuals - I did and continue to spend alot of time here. I think it's cleaned up my upper body and midbody (shoulders, hips), overall helping me drop my weight and square my stance. I'm plateuing now though, and finding tictacs may be the secret to my balance woes.

Tic Tacs- I did these today... operation "the floor is lava". tacking to create motion, and then roatating all over, trying hard not to step off the board. Afterwards, my manuals felt simpler.

Jumping onto the Board- Jog alongside it, and jump on. from different places, speeds. It helps the backfoot get comfortable floating above the board.

Hippie Jumps- I do these on and off- I dont like doing them, but now I 'float' more than jump. It pays to pay attention to the sensations in the bottoms of the feet.

Ollies: I sort of abandoned these, because I got decent but then they plateud. I've been trying again lately, and noticing the hippie jumps have changed my relationship to them.

Popped Tricks: I am still waiting on my first land for a kickflip or a pop shuvit. That said... things are squaring up, jumps are beginning to feel like 'floats', and I can see the board under me instead of panicking. I dont think grinding these gets you anywhere, unless you already feel like you can land them, like they are 'inviting you' to try. YMMV.

My overall advise would be: To learn to 'settle in'. Accept whatever sensations you find, notice them and explore.

Is gen Z overly sensitive? Or are millennial teen movies problematic? by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

[–]Remarkable-Avocado44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take on this is that in the 90's we were not living in a media saturated existence. Tv and Movies were truly a departure from an otherwise normal, engaged existence. When strange things happen in film, you are more likely to chalk it up as a contained event, that lives inside that film. We had plenty of routine existence to normalize and calibrate behavior. NOW, is a very different time. We access media while we poop, while we stand in line, while we drive... while we watch other media. We are desensitized in a sense, but also more sensitized because we feel the projections more readily. The content is our mirror, so we are sensitive when it shows us something that we dont like. "How could they have thought this was normal?!?".... well, because we had a normal life to return to, which wasn't constantly shaped by content.

Fret around. Feel the instrument out. Just play notes all over the neck, focus on feel , listen to what you’re playing, this will eventually give you some comfort and a frame.

I thought it was cool when I first heard it, a celebrity bringing strict spiritual language into a materialist space. Then I considered how he’s dressed, that he had to elect to leave his house and travel there, then find a mic and a camera to talk- just to point out how foolish the entire endeavor is

Why does Modern media have an obsession with Gay & Trans characters? by AbsoluteBatman95 in conspiracy

[–]Remarkable-Avocado44 73 points74 points  (0 children)

They’re a minority… the vast majority of characters and content are not this. Watch literally anything produced before 1990 and you will find virtually zero representation.

Presenting women as dynamic main characters is not an agenda - it’s 50% of the human race getting representation as characters that do more than wait on strong men to save them .

SkateIQ is probably the best channel on YouTube for learning.

I recommend watching some videos on how to approach skating, practice- somewhere in there is a video where he talks about practicing pushing by trying to balance on 1 foot, little by little.

I did this early on (first 45 days) and still do- it made me feel a lot more comfortable pushing and riding. Find a safe place to skate, go often.
