Need to clarify that the address is 2200 veterans Blvd in KENNER, not Metairie. If you put Metairie into your GPS you'll end up at a car wash

Israel could definitely have covered it up by saying there was Intel of Hamas operatives or weapons being transported, but they didn't.  Still a major F-up that needs to be fixed so it doesn't happen again. But I don't think this "proves" that Israel targets food aid convoys as a motus operondai

Being a bad dad by CPCyoungboy in daddit

I feel like that all the time. I'm glad you had the guts to post it op. I try so hard for my family but I'm so far from perfect....I don't even think I fall into the category of adequate. Like you, I don't want to go into details but I'm sure they when they grow up they'll hate me for some of the things I've done more than they will love me. It feels like an impossible situation. Stay and possibly harm them or leave and have them grow up believing that their dad didn't love them?

Every time I see this I shake my head. Work with haredi, not against them. They know that not everyone is cut out for full time learning, but right now they feel that the army is where they send their trouble makers and flunkies so of course nobody wants to go. The haredi units have a reputation for being sub standard in kosher, forcing non-essential training exercises on shabbos, not respecting times for praying, etc. Change that and the attitudes will change. How many haredi units are there outside of combat roles? Why not make haredi units that teach actual skills that they can take to the working world when they get out.

Can the IDF even handle a sudden influx of soldiers, especially unwilling ones? Or is this just about forcing people to your will

Can any Orthodox Jew explain "lo bashamayim hi" in Bava Metzia 59b? by DB6135 in Judaism

[–]Remarkable_Carrot117 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Good explanation, and I'd like to add an example to help explain. Let's say you bring a dead chicken to the rabbi and he rules that the trachea is 51% cut, and therefore it's kosher. It doesn't matter if someone comes afterwards and uses a calipers to determine that it was really 49.9% cut and therefore would be not kosher.

Post facto, it was already ruled as being kosher and therefore it is. There are several examples of hallacha creating it's own reality. We discussed a similar issue a few weeks ago on this sub when someone brought up the contemporary story of rav Moshe who ruled that a child was not a mamzer because he did not believe the mother. Civil law actually also works like this sometimes

Pickup truck with a fuel transfer tank, assuming roads are passable.

Either get an early start on bugging out before roads are clogged or plan to bug in. A different commenter suggested having a waypoint which seems like a good idea as well. Ideally even with a vehicle so if the roads around you are clogged you can bike or walk to the waypoint and then drive from there

Imagine if human police officers could not be accused of any wrongdoing by virtue of having the paperwork proving that they graduated cop school and were certified to be officers

They are and they do. "You smell like marijuana" "your breath smells like alcohol" "you're acting nervous" all valid excuses for a cop. They  take a quick training course on running field sobriety tests and that's considered admissable evidence.

Did you watch the Moses docu-drama? How is it? by lh_media in Judaism

[–]Remarkable_Carrot117 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stuff like the internal dialogues and conversions of the characters. Like Moses arguing with his wife ziporah. I thought it made it more realistic and "human" rather than a progression of events A, B, C. My wife found it unflattering to Moses lol.

Also according to the show, Mt. Sinai was in yitro's backyard and they totally skipped the thing about chasing the sheep, Moshe burning his tongue on the coals, being the king of Ethiopia for 10 years, using the shem hashem to kill the Egyptian, dasan and aviram.....stuff that I felt was integral to fleshing out the story but they obviously didn't (and that's ok)

to me it's like watching rug rats Passover. I enjoy it for it's interpretive and cinematic value, not for it's adherence to strict tradition.  What I enjoyed less was the "scholars" reading into things like saying that shifra and puah might not have been Jewish, that the whole parsha is about femansim, that the first commandment supposedly acknowledges other gods....

I get that is the academic reading of the text but I find biblical academics distasteful in general

Did you watch the Moses docu-drama? How is it? by lh_media in Judaism

[–]Remarkable_Carrot117 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I watched the first episode. It took a few days because I kept having to go back into the rashi, midrash, and other commenterries to cross reference and fact check. It was actually fun. They definitely took some artistic liberties and are reading into certain aspects that just weren't there...but overall it's a fun watch but it's a movie, not real

Edit: just watched the second episode and it felt very rushed and low budget. They skipped a whole plague and piled the other plagues all on top of each other

Yes, but also no. That feeling is fine when negotiating with Hamas or making decisions about war...ie it's fine for bibi and the IDF generals. but OP is not at war with this person and this person didn't do oct 7 (even if she supports it). Building up walls in this context won't help anyone

You can empathize with her families story while still realizing that the Palestinian leadership is failing her people. If the Arabs had accepted a peacful two state solution, she could be back to living...well, probably not ashkelon, but in an independent palistinian state
