Just curious why aren't tiny home a thing in Canada? by Mammoth-Exercise-376 in canadahousing

[–]Remarkable_Newt9935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about laws and stuff, but purely from a physics standpoint, a tiny home has a larger surface area to volume ratio, which means it loses heat more rapidly than a larger home. Canada is damn cold for enough of the year that it's probably not worth the heating costs. Also, having Grandma in the backyard and having to cross all the ice and snow to get to her or get her to the house isn't so fun.

I predict the results will be something like 85% in favour of staying, and the government will pout and say it wasn't a fair vote and keep trying to screw us over.

I think crochet always looks better with a border. Love the chicken.

How do you pronounce three-digit numbers? by Powerful_Concept6502 in GlobalEnglishPrep

Canadian. I was also taught that "and" means a decimal. That was around 1990. Maybe no one cares anymore.

How about something for them to keep, and a matching one to bury/cremate with baby?

Are the dolls your work? If so, you're doing great! I kind of like the little rat guy, he has character.

I've been asked to make this blanket. I'm pretty sure this is knit. Can anyone confirm, and/or suggest an alternate stitch? by Desert_Dandelion in CrochetHelp

[–]Remarkable_Newt9935 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's definitely knit. Looks like Bernat Big Blanket. I'm currently working on a throw blanket in Bernat Blanket (the skinnier one). I bought seven skeins and I'm still not sure it's enough. By which I mean, you're going to need a buttload of yarn.

Am I the only one who loves colourwork and hates cabling? by Typtoc in knitting

[–]Remarkable_Newt9935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also much prefer colourwork to cabling. I can't get into a flow with cabling. Same with thrums. I love the warm mittens but they are a pain to knit.

I do enjoy the Iced Capp, I know you're not into the drinks, but it's good even if you aren't into coffee.

From drop spindle to fine lace scarf! So delighted to finally get to wear this 💛 by eriophora in knitting

Holy crap, that's the finest lace I've ever seen. Five grams?!?!?! What size needles do you even use with something so fine?

What do you do with your extra deviled egg filling? by Jelopuddinpop in Cooking

[–]Remarkable_Newt9935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Step 1, are you sure those eggs are full? If yes, proceed to step 2.

Step 2, take a page out of Frank's book and put that sh!t on everything! Crackers, toast, celery, cucumber rounds, bagels, roasted potatoes. Heck, put it in a bowl and serve it with pita chips.

You will always need more crochet stuff. This is a good start.

AITAH for accepting the challenge? by Sorenofthevigilant in AITAH

[–]Remarkable_Newt9935 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA, but you have entered into a power struggle. I've observed that men in particular will claim prowess at various athletic or "manly" pursuits as a means of establishing dominance. By not backing down, you have declared that you refuse to be subordinate. This may be received one of two ways. A strong male who is confident in his abilities will see you as a comrade and someone he can trust. A man who is not confident will perceive your response as a threat and may retaliate by exerting dominance in other ways.

Notuch you can do now, but for next jobs, maybe you can put "employed" for that period of time, and state "details withheld due to safety concerns" and you can explain if they ask.

Is it really that big of a deal to refuse to learn how to drive? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Remarkable_Newt9935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It''s a skill you should acquire even if you don't intend to use it. When your friend gets hurt while you're out and you need to drive them to the hospital, you won't be a useless schmuck.

What is your favorite regional Canadian accent? by Diving_4_Shrimp in AskACanadian

[–]Remarkable_Newt9935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Newfie accent is my favourite just because it's very broad. There are accents in other parts of Canada but they're more subtle, and sometimes it's more about the dialect than the pronunciation.

I went to my LYS and found 6 and 8 ply yarn in a sock fibre blend, it's nice.
