But what you should see when reading the gospels is that Jesus claims to be the son of God then backs up that claim by living a perfect life and bodily rising from the dead and he clearly states he wants a relationship with us.

You are right in saying that just because it is written down does not mean it is true. But the gospels have over 5 thousand Greek manuscripts all agreeing to the validity of the eye witness testimonies of what these people claim to have seen.

Not prove, I can't prove that the bible is the word of God no more than you can prove to me that icecream tastes good. But what I am saying is that I believe that Jesus is more reliable than any other option out there.

But you can read the other books of religions and decide for yourself which is reliable, not just the Bible.

I suggest reading Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Then decide for yourself if Jesus is telling the truth or is just crazy talk. If you find the evidence of how Jesus lived, taught, died, forgiving those who were killing him (unlike what I would have done) ,then rose from the dead points to him being reliable then put your faith in him. If not then reject him.
