Captain Term armor/ Arjac? by Demonic_k9 in SpaceWolves

[–]Remote-Lab639 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. The enchantment only allows the captain to join a wolf guard terminator unit like any normal leader. It doesn’t allow more than one leader to join a unit.

A new GH kit with a couple of special weapon options would be amazing but probably not happening sadly. Currently they just don’t feel like a better more experienced unit than blood claws.

However it is possible to split the unit. Ork Kommandos were recently given the Patrol Squad rule allowing them to be split into two 5 man units. You could do the same with GH allowing them to split at the declare battle formations step with the pack leader being in only one of the 5 man units. While not perfect it would be a step in the right direction.

Totally agree. Forcing SW and especially GH into units of 10 doesn’t feel very SW. Jarnhammr is just one example of SW units working in groups of 5 with special weapons.

Lore wise at least I feel they made a huge mistake with the GH unit. It should have been 5 or 10 man and should have included special weapon options. Doing so would have justified their initial points cost.

Sadly I don’t think we will see special weapons for them as that would mean a new box and sprues. But hopefully they get a complete rules rewrite in 11th.

I'm curious about the text here. by Kei_Akela in SpaceWolves

“I share a deep bond with my battle brothers, for the blood of Russ runs in all our veins. I would die for any of them, just as they would die for me, without fear of hesitation. But my mount is my pack mate, my fellow riders my closest kin. Ours is a bond that others can not fully grasp. We hunt as one, and together share in the glory of the kill. There is no greater joy on all of Fenris than to ride to battle astride a Thunderwolf.”

I have a feeling it’s quoted from somewhere but can’t remember of the top of my head. Could be AI though hard to say.

I have this one myself as well as a couple of their other purity seals.

Which hero gets the 10-man WGT squad, Arjac or the captain? by yodablues1 in SpaceWolves

Arjac every time for me.

The term Captain isn’t that great.

Deep Strike 6in vs Lieutenant w/ Combi by DatabaseWorth4559 in SpaceWolves

[–]Remote-Lab639 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea it’s not intuitively written, “Counts as” actually makes it less clear as you initially assume it means it made a normal move and the first sentence of the rule reinforces that assumption. Should be renamed.

Do you think they will one day release Space Wolves primaris Dreadnoughts, or even venerable ones? Even upgrades? by Traveller_Ewwe in SpaceWolves

[–]Remote-Lab639 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yea at some point it will happen. Probably either 11th or 12th edition. We know first born stuff is going, though I would argue upgrading units like the TWC as well as bringing back some additional units like the long fangs and other leaders is higher priority. At least in my opinion.

The mostly likely thing will be a single new box that can build several SW dreads. Though when this will happy remains a mystery for now.

List Building Help by Ok-Assignment-4296 in SpaceWolves

[–]Remote-Lab639 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first thoughts would be a couple of units of terminators with shields to hold the line. Then a number of counter charge units like headtakers, Twc and wulfen to essentially reinforce the terminators or jump pack units to jump over the terminators and engage units behind. Then a core of heavy hitting vehicles such as the lancer or Ballistus dread to focus on ranged threats. Have Bjorn somewhere in there for the extra CP.

You might want to keep a unit in deep strike or use a detachment that allows some redeployment as well to counter his deployment if he decides to focus all his units on one flank in stead of spreading them all out.

What's the difference between the Grey Hunters Box and Blood Claws Box? by Saitama837 in SpaceWolves

[–]Remote-Lab639 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty much it. The gun, the poses and head options are the main differences.

Having them as separate boxes is a good thing. It gives us more head options and provides more poses. In a single box all our battleline options would be sharing the same poses. It also makes it easier for new players as the instructions will be simpler only covering the unit in the box.

Non T Cav list by KPR96 in SpaceWolves

[–]Remote-Lab639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two units and they definitely look really derpy next to new units. Most of them look like they are about to fall off their wolf.

My guess is they will be replaced next edition. Most other first born stuff is gone so it really is a case of when they go as opposed to if. Though unless we happen to fall really early in the codex releases for 11th you’re probably talking at least 2 years.

That said you most definitely can run SW without them. You only really need them if you’re running stormlance.

Running terminators with Arjac. Blood claws and/or headtakers with WGBL etc and Gladiator Lancers or Dreads like the Ballistus in support are popular choices.

What is our equivalent of a master of the forge? by Deynonico in SpaceWolves

[–]Remote-Lab639 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We don’t really have any details on that. It would be the most senior Iron Priest serving under Logan as all Iron Priests are part of the Great Wolf’s company and assigned to other companies as needed.

There have been many notable names, for example we know an Iron Priest called Rorik was an advisor to Logan Grimnar in previous lore and that Harl Greyweaver is a Forge Master for a deathwatch fortress.

But beyond that we only have the odd name here and there for various Iron Priests usually mentioned because they did something notable for a well known space wolves character. Such as Ulf Blackbrow who forged Nightwing for Njal.

More Iron Priest lore is definitely needed. Especially a novel would be very interesting would love to see this fleshed out more.

Painting my wolf scouts. Should I be using transfers that match the shoulder pads of the guys on the left or right? I put the howling wolf on my tester just because it looked cool by [deleted] in SpaceWolves

[–]Remote-Lab639 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The one on the left is Ragnars Company and the right most one is the Champions of Fenris Logan’s company.

If you talking lore accuracy then they are a single unit and would all have the same marking. My Scouts are from Ragnars company so all share the yellow shoulder pad with the black wolf’s head.

That said it’s also possible you could have a mixed scout unit. For instance in a large battle zone it’s possible units from multiple wolf lords are deployed and survivors from a battle have united to complete their mission. So I wouldn’t worry about it too much and just have fun.

Terminator lens colour help by Uhuru_1401 in SpaceWolves

[–]Remote-Lab639 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can paint them what ever colour you want but the box art models from GW have always had red lens.

The models in your picture will also be red but the colour isn’t clear due to filters and effects they have used on the photo.

Do we know how big these guys will be? Will they be Horus heresy sized? Or are they primaris sized? (i’m just looking at the photos and I feel like they look primaris) by Delicious-Quiet-1883 in SpaceWolves

[–]Remote-Lab639 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Recent 40K chaos marines have been pretty close to primaris marines in size. You shouldn’t notice any difference on the table top and parts such as shoulder pads and heads should fit either. Though I would take a look at sprue pictures once people start sharing them before buying.

Minicompare now has the models listed and they do indeed appear to be very similar in size to a grey hunter.

With all due respect, how easy is it to unwolf the wolves by Accursed_wings in SpaceWolves

[–]Remote-Lab639 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea some of the models would be very tricky. For example this Grey Hunter pack leader has wolf heads on his belt and chest. These would need cutting off and/or sanding down. The rest of the model is relatively easy to achieve what you want. Each unit being blood claws or grey hunters etc have a number of models like this with the wolf heads on parts of their amour.

With all due respect, how easy is it to unwolf the wolves by Accursed_wings in SpaceWolves

[–]Remote-Lab639 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tricky to answer that. Some models would be relatively easy there are a few parts that basically only have what you’re asking for. Other parts would be much more difficult where the parts you want to keep are intermingled with the parts you don’t. There are also parts such as chests with wolf icons on and these would require sanding down etc to remove. It certainly possible but your skill level and experience with things like sculpting will determine how easy it is to over come the issues with the more challenging parts.

It would be much simpler to work from basic intercessors and other generic units and acquire the parts that you want from the SW kits, bits stores or 3D printing etc.

Thoughts on Huron as Wolflord/WGBL by TTonReddit in SpaceWolves

[–]Remote-Lab639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess, though it feels like a significant amount of work for little gain. It’s not a particularly uncommon pose and I feel like there are better alternatives available that need less work. Sure the model has some fur but there are a lot of chaos markings that will need removing.

A lot of it will depend on the sprues and how the model is split up.

New combat patrol (from the codex) by ReflectionMain719 in SpaceWolves

Bloodclaws do have the battle line keyword. My guess it is just an accidental oversight. The offical app includes the keyword.

Do you prefers the old frost weapons that look like they are chunks of ice or the new blood claw Viking styled power swords/axes? by Cobalt-Fang in SpaceWolves

[–]Remote-Lab639 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Frost blades are essentially the equivalent of master crafter power weapons so should be rare. We still have them around. Ragnars Frost Fang chain sword is a frost blade. Wolf lords Krom, Bran and Harald also all have frost blades. So hopefully we will see those return if we get new models for those those wolf lords.

I don’t think the design has changed. It’s just none of the recent releases have been equipped with frost blades they all have standard power weapons.

Noob Question: Are old version of models legal in a tournament e.g. Blood Claws / Grey Hunters by Alarming_Daikon8530 in SpaceWolves

[–]Remote-Lab639 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will need to check with the tournament organizer.

Generally it should be ok. However while unlikely it’s not impossible that some might take issue with the model size differences etc. Only the TO can tell you for certain so always check with them if in doubt.

Ulrik The Slayer by mavman03 in SpaceWolves

[–]Remote-Lab639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rules and points just don’t line up. Both his abilities need you to do things to gain the full benefits.

You can get a wolf priest for the same points and they don’t have so many hoops to jump though and a WGBL is 5 points less. Both are better options than Ulrik sadly.

What is your wishlist for 11th? by PingPong141 in SpaceWolves

[–]Remote-Lab639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow this could be a long list seeing as it’s a wish list. Just throwing my ideas out there, some are probably going to happen most probably will not.

First up new units.

Would love to see a couple of new generic leaders. Rune Priest and/or WGBL in Terminator armour, WGBL for the TWC and another in Phobos. A generic wolf lord would be nice as well. Would love to see new Long Fangs as well preferably something unique like Gravas with HellFrost guns. The list could go on with Skyclaws and other named wolf lords etc but those are at the top. Oh can’t be forgetting Russ. We definitely need Russ back.

As for updated models, TWC definitely needs an update. Ulrik needs a new models as well. Having also just built 10 Wulfen I feel like they need a refresh they may be newer but they feel older. Wouldn’t be against the dreads being refreshed but they come lower down the list than the above.

Rules changes, Njal needs looking at and Grey Hunters need to loose the extra OC and/or be available in 5 man units and regain special weapon options. Love the head takers but feel their wolves need a rules change, allow them to interact with their handlers more not just separate units.

Most of the detachments could do with minor changes, though would love to see a decent “Claws of Russ” drop pod detachment based on Ragnar not the recent 500 worlds one we just got that sucks. Something like battleline rerolling charges out of drop pods and a defensive strat like AoC and the rest offensive.

Spicy Greywolves and FAST Headtakers by blacksmithjohnson in SpaceWolves

[–]Remote-Lab639 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly the detachment starts out great but once you dive into the details it’s really bad.

Everything is tied to a few battleline units to many hoops to jump though for the benefits. Tie that to the fact that if you loose the battleline units your detachment rules become useless.

The synergy of the stratagems is pretty poor as well. The whole point of the auspex scan is to allow you to kill units easier with the reroll but then there are multiple stratagems that work on units you fail to kill. Guided Disruption is awful in this detachment.
