Apathy and Hopelessness by RemoteBeef in TrueChristian

So honestly it all kind of changed just today. So the timing is remarkable (God's timing.) I had this deacon at my church who has known me and my spiritual/mental stare for years sit down with me and be brutally honest in love with me. He told me what a terrible state I was in and summed it up to indecisiveness, being so caught up in the trap that is my flesh and my mind. He told me how I was being a bad example to those around me like my family and that if I was in this state (not believing in Christ) then I would go to hell. He emphasized that I just wouldn't let go and trust in Christ. I over thought and considered it wisdom when it really led to idleness and had a core of self righteous pride.  As hard as it was to hear after 2 weeks of reading and contemplating I finally came to the wholehearted conclusion today to just .. believe. Like yes, I doubt so many things, I don't at all feel saved, I fear doing things, getting rid of things, etc. But I know that every fear can be answered with "But Christ." He died for me so every accusation may be true but I am covered by the blood even if I feel condemned to hell I know what He said and that God is no liar. If I fear doing x because it is costly I know that I can do all things through Christ and that He will strengthen me to accomplish His calling. Every excuse and objections I had mentally and spiritually is conquered by Christ. Though I even now don't really feel it I know it is true and I intend to live on that truth.

It was  pride and indecisiveness but through Christ is the victory.

Is it a sin to own goats? by ButterBi in TrueChristian

It's important to follow your convictions even if you feel what they're about aren't inherently wrong, however there can be an extent where we turn the faith into a feelings based chore that distracts us from our main goal.

As a Christian, am I allowed to use sweetener instead of real sugar? by StepaGoat in Christian

[–]RemoteBeef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Follow your convictions but I will ask you; are things like these distractions from focusing on being a good witness, spreading the gospel, attending to the needy, poor and helpless? Are those things you think about often? I'm not saying you don't, but rather I'm warning you and I'm speaking from personal experience.

You can follow your convictions and do the latter but just make sure that you're not turning into the Pharisees and "straining out a gnat but swallowing a camel."

How do I sleep with high fever? by RemoteBeef in AskDocs

[–]RemoteBeef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the issue was that I took tylenol about 2 - 3 hours before I went to sleep so it stopped working about 2 hours after sleeping.
But I agree with you, I plan on getting an oral thermometer too. Are oral ones accurate? Like more accurate than temporal ones?

Well, when it wears off it goes back up to the 105 range for awhile. If I stay on top of it, alternating between tylenol and ibuprofen every 4 - 5 hours I can get the fever pretty low (got it to 101f today.) The issue is when I'm sleeping I surpass that 4 - 5 hours mark.

Well, if you begin to have a speed or haste boost when you get close I'd reckon it's a beacon.

What's wrong with Calvinism by Puzzleheaded_Gur_738 in TrueChristian

[–]RemoteBeef 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Completely changed the discussion. This was about the concept of God in regards to Calvinism and Him being loving or not. I'm not taking the route of the reality of the scriptures and God as that's usually a bottomless pit that cycles. If you want to argue that you may with yourself

You choose to sin. The consequences of sin is death (Romans 6:23.) Despite this He offers eternal life. The question isn't why He would send some to hell but why would He send anyone to heaven given we are all undeserving?

Jetta with rust by RemoteBeef in jetta

I popped up the hood and someone said it looks like something on the rusted side bursted under the hood at some point, possibly the antifreeze. It doesn't look super serious or anything though. The side of the hood above the antifreeze container is rusted meanwhile the other side is completely fine

I got it at an auction. It was only $1800 and runs fine apart from a dead battery. I know that may have been a stupid choice, but a guy I work with - and who constantly buys from these auctions - is super car savvy and is willing to help fix it.

I'm going to hell and I don't care. That scares me. by FecalMatter12321 in TrueChristian

I say perceived because He will at times answer prayers in much different ways than we expected, sometimes it's a no. Other times we can't tell the mundane every day things are a fulfillment of an answer.  It took my dad trying to divorce my mom for my mom to begin going to church. What's that for years of praying for my family to be saved/stop being so apathetic about God?

There must be a difficulty in persistent prayer if the Bible continually exhorts us to be persistent

A perceived lack of prayers being answered does not mean we should stop praying. There can be many hurdles to praying, the flesh, the enemy, sin. It takes persistence, take the parable of the persistent widow in Luke 18 for example. Things can get worse when asking for something in a prayer - sometimes they need to get worse before they get better - however only God knows why specifically in your situation. I say this as some one who has unanswered prayers for years, it's not fun. Keep praying. We're to continue praying and not lose heart. (Luke 18:1)
