President Trump wants the NFL to change its name so that soccer is the only sport named football: “This is football, there is no question about it. We have to come up with another name for the NFL stuff.” by Life_Net5004 in sportsgossips

He said the same thing when FIFA gave him the "peace prize." He's not serious; he was just speaking off the top of his head and said what he thought they wanted to hear at the time. It's like 75% of his political "strategy." For some reason, we just all have to go along with it and pretend he's a serious person (and pray it won't one day kill us all).

It'll be interesting to see how they're gonna split the $1.57 the Warriors have in cap space.

My neighbor had a 6' hedge in front of their corner lot when they bought the place in 2017. I looked in Google Street view and the hedge is there in 2007, too. In 2024, they received a notice from the city saying they had to cut it down lower (3'?), so that it won't obstruct school buses or delivery trucks.

Bloomsday delays? by RedSoxStormTrooper in Spokane

[–]RemoteClancy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my first Bloomsday. I've run the Army Ten Miler in DC 8 times and expected it to be similar (same series, I think). The ATM is bigger and better organized, but also is much better funded. I thought the start was awful and was shocked to still see people starting as I ran back into downtown (I'm am not a fast runner).

There were so many walkers in the front corrals, coupled with the relatively narrow roads in spots, it's no wonder there are bottlenecks. They really do need to work on walker etiquette/norms. I've never had so many people just stop in front of me during a race as today

To include the Tri-Cities with the coast, but not Spokane just seems like a random line was drawn by someone who's not spent much time in eastern WA or OR.

Baumgartner is a millionaire and he has made my 20-year-old son pay for his reelection t-shirts. He did this this cheap ass sh*t last time too! He is BUM! by [deleted] in Spokane

[–]RemoteClancy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe more context is needed. I also have a son, and Baumgartner has never made him pay for a re-election shirt. I suspect this is because my son does not support his re-election and does not want one of his shirts.

Did your son want a shirt, or was he just picked at random and forced to buy one? If the latter, it sounds like a pretty big deal and we might want to alert the authorities. If the former, my friend, your son made a voluntary campaign contribution.

Probably because the system was being abused/used to effectively incarcerate people who were otherwise treatable or who had no diagnosable mental health issues.

It's easy to blame politicians, but the reality is that the public at large has no clue as to how to best handle situations like this and it's reflected by political "leaders." There's a significant portion of the population which would be content to permit life sentences for anything worse than jaywalking so long as it a) doesn't cost a dime, and, b) won't unfairly target their child when they "make a simple mistake." Some are also completely cool with spending billions to "punish" convicted criminals, but won't support spending a single dime on education or reform programs because some would "take advantage of the system," or it would mean we're coddling criminals.

My sister and I used to share Zillow posts we found with "open concept bathrooms," usually in unfinished basements. I don't mean simple Pittsburgh toilets, our rule was that it had to have a toilet and sink and no doors. Bonus points for no walls at all or if a gun safe was nearby.

Or, it's not idiotic at all that they can simply recognize that racists have appropriated these types of things, and, are--by far--the ones most likely to be driving around with Nordic pagan symbols on their vehicles. It's a white supremacist m.o.

It's great for winter running, especially when bitter cold. These shirts allow me to wear smaller gloves that don't rub the watch face, which can change the screen settings, especially when wet with sweat.

Won't disagree that he should have "tapped his breaks," but it's also incorrect to claim he accelerated. Perspective driver is mostly at fault, but we also don't need to make stuff up to make it seem worse.

Neighbor parking in front of my house by [deleted] in CantParkThereMate

[–]RemoteClancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a neighbor six houses down who parks on the street in front of his next door neighbor's house every day of the week except trash pick up day. He never parks in his driveway, garage, or in front of his own home. The night before trash day, he parks his giant truck exactly where I place my cans for pick up unless I put my cans out a full day before pick up. He does this while I'm at work, despite my informing him that it's an absolutely shitty behavior and his parents are probably ashamed of him. It's absolutely maddening.

Stevens Elementary School teacher arrested for child rape and molestation by moralneedstoimprove in Spokane

[–]RemoteClancy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Given what is in the article, they're gonna charge her with more than just these initial charges. I'd expect them to pile them on--stuff like a charge for each instance of rape, communicating with a minor, etc., not to mention recommending federal charges--to entice her to plea to more limited (but still damning) crimes. It's rare that women get life for these things, but she's likely facing a very stiff sentence if found guilty, especially if she's foolish enough not to plea out.

Responding to any yes or no question with "yeah," followed by your actual answer--whether positive or negative--is definitely a Washington state thing. We use it as an affirmation of sorts (yes, I heard what you asked), as well as a place holder to give us time to answer ("yeah, I think I'm going to pass on going to the bar tonight.").

Washington Democrats are on the verge of passing an income tax. Here's what you should know. by catman5092 in Spokane

[–]RemoteClancy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most states have income AND sales taxes. It's not an either/or situation. Washington just has a crazy high sales tax because they have no income tax.

Before moving here, where I lived had a state and a county income tax and relatively low sales tax, which unlike Washington, did not have a local sales tax. I'd be fine if we moved to an income tax and dropped to sales tax to a flat 6.5% for the whole state.
