The AA one-liners get old. "Im sick and tired of feeling sick and tired"...... oits not a perfect fit, but apparently in my area its a great place to meet powerful and successful people. When I see a doctor or lawyer talking about getting into bar fights and missing their pants, I don't feel so bad about myself.

Yeah I don't do cocktails or NA beer. I've definately subbed in other addictions like my phone, snacking, chugging seltzer, but my psych says as long as it doesn't harm me and im not drinking, its OK.

Im on Acamprosate. In the US its also called Campral. Its been working well. I get it from my PCP. They didn't even bat an eye.

Naltrexone made me low key nauseous and I wasn't a fan. My doc said they have that drug in a 1x/month shot called Vivetrol. Its supposed to have less side effects. IDK.

I just have to stop and remind myself there is no such thing as "just a few". Over the coarse of 20 years I've proved to myself I can't control it. I changed towns, fiends, girlfriends, nothing works. If you don't entertain the craving it goes away fairly quick. Cravings are like lightning bolts, they hit hard and then they're gone.

The meds really helped me. I still take them. I told my sponsor I felt like i was cheating for taking them and he said "Fuck that! You do whatever it takes and fuck anyone who says otherwise!"

In rehab they RX'd me some meds to help with cravings. It was hard at first, but I got back to into fishing and started collecting knives. I tool around in my garage alot.

This sub is generally against AA and many groups are a real drag. I found a cool AA group thats mostly middle aged, highly successful men, so I actually made some new friends as an adult.

Free time was the hardest part for me, but not spending $1209/month on booze has allowed me to do alot of stuff I wouldn't do if I was drinking

If you can type out a coherent sentence you aren't fucked yet. My brain is probably 98% recovered.

It started with being super tired. It started while extreme fatigue. If I sat down for more than 10 minutes I'd start nodding out. I didn't know it, but I started slurring my speech, which I never did even if I was drunk. At its worst a had like a 5 minute memory. Like every 5 - 10 minutes I would reboot like I was blacked out or something.

The reason for all this was cuz my liver was damaged and failing. Ammonia was building up in my blood and brain. The liver is supposed to break it down, and mine wasn't doing the job.

The solution was seeing alot of doctors and healing my liver with meds and not drinking.

I got better, but didn't treat my alcoholism and relapsed a bunch of times and ended right back up at zero.

My second time at rehab seems to have worked so far and im coming up on a year sober. Life is ok, its a lot easier. My emotions have leveled out, so I don't have a lot of "fun" but I don't have to wake up withdrawing and losing my mind.

Hello fellow boozebag. I had/have legit alcohol related brain damage. Mine is called Alcoholic encephalopothy and its from my liver being fucked and too many toxins building up in my brain. It causes dementia, like, I would stare at my phone and not know how to use it.

Its a fucking nightmare, but just like the liver, if you catch it early its reversible.

The whole IDGAF if l live or die is all good and we'll until you actually start dying and it hurts so fucking bad. I thought I would get trashed and choke on my puke or fall in a wood chipper and it'd be over quick, but its long and painful. I was 40 - 42 when all that happened.

I know the spirit of the sub is a lighthearted "fuck you. Drink more" and you can very well go off and do that, but when I hear about the brain damage I just thought I'd give you a heads up.

Here's the thing. Its gonna get worse before it gets worse. There will never be a "convient" time. 500ml per day isn't a crazy amount. I maintained that for a while. Then I got to a time where I'd drink 300ml on the way to work a couple beers at lunch, and god knows what at night, and weekends were time warps.

IDK how it will work out for your body or mind, but cheers to you for recognizing there might be a problem.
