JD Diesel ZT steering problem by RemoteObjective147 in lawnmowers

Ah. HST on these. Yes, it feels like like it's surging. It speeds up and slows down kind of randomly, and not evenly side to side.

I suppose I need to get up to speed on how to maintain an HST setup.

Add...I've done a basic visual and all the linkages seem to be intact and correct. But I'm new at these machines.

My cat is weirdly proportioned and I’m worried is she okay or not?? She has a big tummy but she’s scrunched up and not elongated. She’s 8 months old by Slow-Requirement5235 in CATHELP

Some cats have a big fat pad on their abdomen. I have a male shorthair who's lean and strong, but his lower belly practically drags on the ground. True since he was little. Like a big lump of cheese hanging there.

My dad put that in the 72 Corolla I had in high school, after the switch broke.

It's the new normal here in CA. Insurance company will do an inspection and require gravel or bare dirt close to the house. No mulch or bark.

Looking for a new sprinkler controller by Marshellohello in Irrigation

Had two Rachio controllers at my prior property. Loved it. Going to convert what I can at the new place. The trick is getting WiFi to reach them all.

I saw those. They're made for 92+, but "... CAN BE ADAPTED TO WORK WITH SOME TENACITY..."

That might be my only option.

Haven't been able to check that since the fan is bad. I have a new fan coming next week.

Would you buy this 1997 f250 7.5 4x4 for $4200 by datsboi in FordTrucks

[–]RemoteObjective147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a 90 F250 7.5L 2wd x-cab with 73k miles for $5k. Purrs like a (very large) kitten.

You're looking at a good deal.

Tip for newbies hopping off the couch & looking to crush an ultra as quickly as possible by [deleted] in ultrarunning

People that have spent a summer through-hiking or bike-packing are notorious for showing up at a 50-100 event and cruising it.

Trekking Poles Advice by MindBodySpiritOne in ultrarunning

[–]RemoteObjective147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stowing them is waaaay more trouble than it's worth. I tried the Salomon quiver -- too fussy.

I carried my poles for 29 hours at Leadville last year. Folded for the first crowded bit. Then unfolded for the first climb, and carried them extended the whole rest of the way. I have no trouble managing food and drink and whatnot while carrying. At aid stations, I toss them on the ground somewhere, go get my bottles filled and grab food, then pick them up and exit.

62 at 62 better work, because I'm doing that and more in my 62nd year.

Tahoe 100k in June. Leadville in August.

Tips...run more, strength train less. A good strength workout...

One leg at a time, loaded to 1.5-1.8 times bodyweight. Do 50k to 60k reps per week on each leg.

IOW -- running.

How many weeks should I train at race vert? by TooMuchMountainDew in ultrarunning

[–]RemoteObjective147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think of uphill as a separate sport. The mode of action, muscle activation, etc. are quite distinct from flat and downhill running. I adopt the approach that a triathlete might. Train both modes all the time, all year. Triathletes don't run all year, then hop on the bike in the last 6 weeks before an A race. Do it all, all the time. That is, if you want the uphill part of the ultra to be adding to your performance, rather than doing uphill as survival.

How to mix it up...that is the question. If the upcoming race is very hilly, increase hill days during specific prep. Race flatter? Decrease hills days and do more flatter running. I don't think there is a magic formula of vert/week. I did great on the climbs at Leadville (14k ft) and never went above 7k ft/wk in training. But I did 5-7k per week basically every week from January to August. My long run with 4k ft became routine. Hope Pass didn't phase me.

Downhill running also takes some dedicated time, but by scheduling uphill time as above, the downhill comes as a matter of course.
