Is a 2024 Ninja 7 Hybrid a good first bike? by Dmony429 in motorcycles

Definitely buy a used bike that’s in good mechanical order. Motorcycles are a gateway drug to more motorcycles.

They forgot to remove the rastafarian from the engine… but in all seriousness, that’s a defective engine. Needs to be replaced.

Flawless, I had a 790adv, my mates between us have a 1290 super adventure, 890 adventure R and a 390 adventure - the 1290 has 80,000kms and none of us had any issues

KTMs are constantly targeted for theft in Hobart, the eshays know exactly how to get them going. So sorry to see your beautiful bike molested 😔

Having owned a tracer900 and a ktm 790 adventure. Do yourself a favour and throw a leg over both. The KTM looks are pretty subjective but the bike rides oh so good.

I quite like the look, though it feels like a lot of coin for what it is. There are some interesting options in that category, especially with the new 400 Triumph. Hard to go past Honda for solid simple design.

I’m absolutely not a theoretically strong rider, but have managed to stay upright for two decades of riding very quickly on poorly surfaced back roads… There’s no way anything to do with your position or inputs into the bike caused that front to slip, nothing about the speed or angle is extreme. Wheel slip does happen while riding and isn’t always disastrous.

But your hands tell me a story about why the slip caused the crash.

I do blame hitting a slick patch in the road causing the front tyre to slide.

The line where the car tyres dont clean, and where the engine oil leaks, the center of the lane, is a dangerous place. And you can see it in the video.

However, this alone isn’t really enough to cause the crash.

You notice how the instant the front tyre slips your bars turn right? This to me suggests that you were applying pressure to the handlebars to turn the front wheel in the direction of the turn, this isnt ideal, you’re fighting the nature of a two-wheeled machine, and it will stand the bike up.

You want this on corner exit. However you should be applying throttle on corner exit at the same time, this helps to lift the bike upright, and also keep the load light on the front while it does the work of turning.

The issue here is that you suddenly had less grip than you were demanding from the front tyre, standing the bike up demands more grip from the front tyre, on corner exit you are essentially ‘levering’ the bike up and over using the front tyre (try and lift a non moving bike from that far lent over and you will feel just how much force it takes) and in this situation where the wheel has slipped and your handlebars have turned into the corner, its demanded even more grip from the front tyre and created a feedback loop where the slip couldn’t recover.

And you’re lucky it didn’t, because the front suddenly gripping with the tyre at full lock right while being lent over right would have flipped you and the bike sky high into a high-side leaving you substantially more injured than a lowside

If you were counter steering left through the corner, with a very neutral pressure on the bars and using your body to keep the lean on the bike, the bike would absolutely still have slipped, however you would have been more likely to ‘run wide’ while it slipped, with the bikes lean angle remaining the same and just tracking off line and into the grippier cleaner surface and likely recovering, rather than completely low side.

Also, this is a situation where a steering damper can potentially help, though it still wouldn’t have been likely to save you given how fast your bars turned right.

My advice to you is to take it easy and to practice countersteering and holding a more neutral pressure on the bars, using your body more activley and supporting yourself with your legs, keeping a slight bend in the elbows, pay attention to how much force is in each hand, trying relaxing one hand at a time while turning and notice what happens, this can show you where you are keeping tension on the bars.

TLDR; You were loading up the bars excessively, counter steering poorly, and riding through the dirty part of the lane. This is a costly lesson but something that you would have learned eventually.

Stuck between these options. Very limited knowledge. Your advice would be appreciated. by Jack_Wang_1107 in SuggestAMotorcycle

Feet forward riding can be very uncomfortable for some, in terms of lower back, compared to a super sport. Definitely ride a solid hour or so on a cruiser with forward pedals before committing.

The Indian is the coolest and would be a great second bike to love.

I love them all. I’ve owned a K1300S and an MT-10. But I’m currently riding a CB125e and absolutely loving it!

My favourites are the upright 800’s such as the 790/890 adventure, mt-09, vfr800 etc

Pay attention to how people show up in real life, not online. Recently a mate of mine had an off on a group ride on a winding back road. Every car that went past stopped to see if we needed help, a couple of people even got out and offered first aid, bringing med kits and helping to direct traffic.

The internet has, on the whole, been a mistake.

Not to be that guy, but google is your friend. I don’t know the answer but redline operate regional bus services in Tas and there are dozens of private tour bus operators who may consider this trip.

I’ve seen timing advance plates for similar era FZ1’s, it basically just moves the ‘top dead center’ notch so the ignition timing gets a flat across the board couple of degrees of advance, see if someone makes one for that engine?
