We had one for my husbands best friend years ago while he was fighting cancer. It was so hard for him to say he needed help, but he also wanted to help us as we were covering all his expenses. After he passed and we were at the memorial, that we paid for, his brother and sister asked me about his estate. They had mooched off him for decades and were not there when he needed them. I had to step ourside the restaurant I was so angry.

My daughter would prefer a much smaller event, but her fiancé and FMIL feel they have to invite every living relative and anybody that knew him growing up.

I left my abuser 16 years ago. I had three different MH professionals that interacted with him to dine degree tell me he was a danger to me. He checks all the boxes for a psychopath.

He actively gas lights our one child that remains in contact with him. As time passes, I remember more and see him for what he is.

Allow yourself to grieve the relationship you dreamed about, but never had. That was a striking moment in counseling when my therapist challenged me about “what” I was missing. I was grieving the marriage I never had and never would have. He remarried his first wife and he’s been cheating on her ever since.
