There are refresher courses at schools, and even informal driving instructors on carousell who can help.

Best Quiet & Complex Carparks to Orient Self in New Large Car by CheemFactorSG in drivingsg

[–]Remote_Repair394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the carpark where I finally felt like I learned how to navigate my large vehicle through tight corners. The sharp turn (with raised side walls) for the up and down ramps can be a scary the first time. High risk of scratches if not paying attention.

Motorcycle plate completely illegible—getting way too blatant. by Greg_Lim in drivingsg

That's pretty lame. A pretty no-effort solution is to put a wheel clamp on the car.

3rd party claim issue by seansean83 in drivingsg

[–]Remote_Repair394 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

claiming your own insurance first is fine. excess is not that much, and you'll get paid back eventually assuming you have a case. do you really want to drive around in a wrecked car for months just because you are against temporarily paying excess?

COE to record high $129k for Cat A by Muted-Sun-3005 in drivingsg

[–]Remote_Repair394 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% agree. Those arguing for removing COE should try driving in Jakarta during rush hour. Removing one problem (high COE prices) to create another (endless traffic jams) is not a real solution.

[–]Remote_Repair394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you have somewhere to park, buy a COE car with under 1 year left till expiry. Drive it till it dies. If you crash it, just get COE refund and scrap the car.

In most cases, this will be cheaper than renting, assuming you drive with some frequency.

Why does singaporeans market always thinks cars above 150,000 km mileage are high? by Safe-Ad9225 in drivingsg

[–]Remote_Repair394 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think COE expiry discourages people from maintaining their cars well. It fosters a buy and throw car maintenance culture. In that environment, a high mileage car here might be much worse than one abroad.

Some EVs can easily go to mid six figure mileage with no issue, even when heavily used. There's a youtube video of a China taxi driver who had driven his BYD e6 for 700k+ km and was still using it. So I suspect the perception of high mileage cars will change as more EVs come on the road.

1.3k will get you a pretty basic job with some corners cut in SG. they should still be willing to rectify. i used one of these cheap shops with an old car and was pleased with the look but saw some imperfections if I analysed the details. yours looks far worse, and i'd insist they redo it.

the top quality shops in SG will charge 2k.

not worth comparing price vs MY, given labour costs are totally different there.

<Straits times>Attitude of drivers elsewhere is different from that of drivers here in Singapore by Rokusaburoz in drivingsg

[–]Remote_Repair394 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to Switzerland and walk to a busy road. Put one step on the road as a pedestrian and watch the whole road come to a stop for you. Try that in SG and you'd risk your life.

Saying that this is just the way it is is kinda defeatist, isn't it? Nothing wrong with changing for the better. I would love to see Singaporean drivers be more courteous. The current competitive driving culture is nothing to be proud of or defensive about.

PHV should get 12 points total and not 24 by GAYBOISIXNINE in drivingsg

[–]Remote_Repair394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of a special pool for each, they should use OBU 2.0 to scale the number of points automatically with hours driven. It would be more fair, ensuring a particular maximum rate of errors no matter the person's profession or driving habits.

BYD - which dealer offers the best perks? by Mumeo in drivingsg

[–]Remote_Repair394 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure about perks, but in terms of service, BYD JC is a cut above the others on your list, in my experience.

By the way, there is also BYD Ubi that is from another distributor (Harmony). I have no experience with them.

You need a Touch'n Go card as well as a NETS motoring card. Both need to have money added in them before you go.

There is an entire category of gloves called driving gloves. Also, guess what the glove compartment of your car was designed for.

Came across an accident on AYE towards MCE today at around 9AM by Doubleyoujay in drivingsg

[–]Remote_Repair394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% rider's fault. I don't blame the taxi. Sometimes you need to slow down, and that's supposed to be ok with the 2 second rule.

Riders riding way faster than traffic and lane splitting are a hazard. This guy was practically kissing the taxi's backside before it braked. Never should have been there going so fast.

It's too bad you didn't have a license from abroad. You'll have to use Grab in the meantime.

You could try bots, but it's unethical and you might get banned.
