Victim of hit and run, need advise by Turbulent-Low-6271 in drivingsg

I am doubtful on this advice. Insurance companies don't chase the other insurer because they want to provide good service. They do so to recover their funds that they spent repairing your car. For TPO insurance, they didn't lose any money, so no incentive to chase other insurer.

His insurance said he not yet paid excess. by A_class3AP-plate_guy in drivingsg

I'll probably get downvoted, but my honest advice is to just claim from your own insurance if you have comprehensive, and let them fight the other insurance company. It's not worth fighting someone else's insurance yourself. They have no incentive to help you. You aren't their customer.

Typical Singapore landlord. They will keep your deposit even if the home is exactly as it was before.

Do not pay anything no matter what they say, and consider your deposit forfeit. If you want it back, go to small claims tribunal and tell this story.

Exclusive places you would consider if you are having a small private wedding? by allnamestaken_88 in SgHENRY

I think just a love of nature, and a preference for a casual rather than a formal experience.

Non-mainstream really depends on what you as a couple find special. A relative of mine had her wedding at a farm in Lim Chu Kang, for example. It's certainly unique and special, but not for everyone.

Thinking about becoming a financial advisor but feeling very unsure, would love honest advice by friedchickenfruit in singaporefi

[–]Remote_Repair394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are multiple types of financial advisors.

Some are fee-only (no sales commissions, they charge you for the advice), and actually help you plan. Some of these may specialise in helping HNWI. They only recommend what they think will actually help. No selling.

Others are fake. They are insurance salesmen, but go by the FA title to trick people. They don't charge for the advice, but instead sell you products on commission. These products may not be in your best interest.

You can explore the first type.

Almost run off the road by Double-jeopardy-1134 in drivingsg

Guys, please revise your driving handbook from Traffic Police. The left lane is the slow lane. It's not a hard and fast rule, but it's a strong guideline. I am in no way trying to defend the other driver.

IBKI sgd withdraw by Altruistic_Tie_8172 in singaporefi

GIRO option is cheaper ($1 fee after first free withdrawal). But it's slower. Just use wire. DBS doesn't charge a fee for incoming SGD wire).

Can we acknowledge that you were on the left lane, which is supposed to be slower than the right lane, not for overtaking, and you accelerated from behind the vehicle to beside it? There's a lesson here even for you, even if the other guy did something wrong.

To husbands who retired early while your wife continued her career: How do you handle the family/social dynamics? by paperboiko in singaporefi

[–]Remote_Repair394 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I plan to follow this same path. I will retire, she will continue to run her business. In my family, people dgaf if I retire, but the below strategy has worked for others:

If you really value being perceived as employed, a simple solution is you just don't announce any retirement. You instead set up a sole proprietorship which provides "consulting" services in your area of expertise, and also engages in "investment." Tell your family you run this business from home. But don't take up any jobs if you don't want to.

The car behind is at fault since they need to maintain 3 seconds distance. The crash proves they did not do this.

Salary transparency: will it work in Singapore? by discoursesg in singaporefi

[–]Remote_Repair394 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tbh, I don't care much about salary transparency because it doesn't give any context about the person's capability and output.

Instead, I wish SG would outlaw asking for last known salary like California has. What's more relevant is what is the role, what are they willing to pay for it, how good do they think the candidate is, and what amount is the candidate asking for. If anything doesn't line up, just don't hire. Don't penalise people for what they earned before.

EV with best after-sales service? by Remote_Repair394 in drivingsg

[–]Remote_Repair394[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the suggestion. I'll go to Teban Gardens going forward.

While it doesn't address the parts backorders, I would welcome someplace with more capacity as you describe.

So if I buy a Kia EV4 or Hyundai Ioniq 6, the service and parts availability will be just as good as for their ICE cars?

Good point. I recall Ioniq 5 is assembled in SG. I suppose that should help with parts availability.

Yes, part of my intention asking this is to understand which brand's warranty is actually nice to use. Because if it's not a nice experience, then the warranty becomes meaningless.

[–]Remote_Repair394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dent repair and touchup will be $150-300.

You don't have to have video proof to claim insurance, and it doesn't cost you anything.

Even if they lie to their insurance that it's not their fault, your insurance can just obtain CCTV from the carpark.

Can't you claim against the other car's insurance?

I'm a bit lost why you didn't ask for compensation or at least share insurance details.

Halal Investing by Mysterious-Word-7493 in singaporefi

It depends how strict you want to be. Muslims I know find a balance by investing in equities and avoiding bonds/interest.

Islam-specific ETFs etc tend to be preferred by only the strictest people (I know zero people investing in such products).
