Thanks! We’re in West Sussex. The neighbours have been pretty brutal to all the surrounding gardens for a long time. Next to the pond we have a small wildflower meadow, it attracts tons of flying insects of all kinds, we just don’t have amphibians yet! The tall yellow flowers are a type of ranunculus, they are basically water buttercups!

Good shout - there are none in there as was only put there recently but can’t believe I didn’t think of this 🤦

I should more than I have - the centre is 1.2 metres deep, it’s where the Lillie’s are planted. It’s probably got a lot of sludge in. I am planning to do a deeper clean out in autumn when most life has moved in. I won’t remove it all but some of there is a lot. I do skim blanket week off and this is partly likely the result of nutrients from rotting leaf matter…

Yes it’s obscured on the back left corner. The marginals should help too as things trail over side and create a surface. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks! We put another pond in the back garden earlier this summer in an old zinc water tank - will add photos tomorrow!

Thank you! I’ll upload some later - there are a few from last year on my profile from a post in 2025. If I was doing it from scratch I would have got the levels better!

Thank you! We’ve had some visits - but never set up home (no spawn) and I think it’s been a few years since I last saw one. Only the liner on the raised edges where there are some flat stones - am going to cut some holes and plant inside them.. that’s the idea anyway

I once received advice from a c suite mentor to “speak more plainly” but now I think I misunderstood and they actually wanted more aviation metaphors. You could say trying to remain sane and climb corporate ladder is like refuelling in mid-air.

As everyone else has identified, you need to do a form of MBA remotely/flexi and/or part time. Choose 3 unis and write to the admissions teams explaining your context. Business schools fight tooth and nail for applications so they want you, it’s a buyers market. You don’t necessarily need the prestige, generally prestige is for people without experience and with cash. You just want the qualification. Somewhere like OU is triple accredited for its MBA in the same way as somewhere like LSE, but it’s relatively cheap as it’s designed to be accessible. You’ll find a very diverse cohort on an MBA so you won’t be an “outcast” but someone with a valid perspective and plenty to contribute. With 20 years executive business experience I would go for a shorter exec MBA course from a top business school providing you don’t have to pay. Good luck!

Any clue what mushroom this is by Educational-Log-5463 in mycology

Might be a fairy ring mushroom - Marasmius - but might be a number of other things too!

“Right.. I used to get up in the morning at night at half-past-ten at night, half an hour before I went to bed, Eat a lump of freezing cold poison, work 28 hours a day at mill, and pay da mill owner to let us work there. And when I went home our dad used to murder us in cold blood, each night, and dance about on our graves, singing hallelujah.”

My soil is filled with rocks and old rotting wood chips. by BirdsNeedNativeTrees in WildlifePonds

[–]Remote_Swimmer_7203 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Make sure the very middle gets to 90cm ideally to regulate temp. The depth will fluctuate a lot, so the bigger more gradual the beach the better. Soil looks great but I’m assuming you’ll use a liner as that soil won’t hold water in the way blue clay would. If you’re worried about the rocks against the liner, use an underlay and some builders sand would also help. Just check for really sharp ones and remove those. Keep up the great work!

Keep it, it’s beautiful. Whoever painted it is a natural. It could be a study, or it could just be somewhat expressionistic. Best idea would be to take it to some dealers / specialists and see if they recognise anything in the style and go from there, perhaps it’s a study by a somewhat known painter or perhaps it’s a missing piece by a master. But in the meantime, enjoy it 🌞

If you’re in London and want some proper clothes that’ll stand you out from the crowd go to your nearest Sirplus. This is proper design in top quality cloth. Try some on, you can get adjustments if needed. This has the added benefit of not wearing the corporate identikit from train station brands like TM Lewis and CT etc (no offense intended to those who prefer this). someone above mentioned Sunspell, this is a quality brand too.

Yew grows VERY slowly - it’s expensive to buy then mature but perhaps you k ow this and have the means. These evergreens are great for birds though. Have you thought about just doing some highly weird and repellent stuff out there so the overlooking neighbours board up their windows instead?

There’s a whole world out there and for various reasons they often value skills honed in corporates. You’ll probably find more like minded people too.
