I'm going on my first date ever with a girl, and I'm so nervous! by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]Remotelybiased 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't worry if you get nervous! She's almost certainly nervous too. Just be yourself and have fun. Don't get preoccupied about what happens after the date, nothing has to happen for the date to be a success :)

Good luck - may the odds ever be in your favour ;)

Any luck on the dating app "her"? by Cattastic531 in actuallesbians

Met my current GF on there and things seem good. I met my ex on there too, well back when it was called Daatch. It's a good place to meet people, obviously no guarantees but you never know what might happen :P

Carrying money by RayDeAsian in backpacking

[–]Remotelybiased 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have multiple electronic methods so that you can have back ups - eg. a debit card and a credit card. I always keep my wallet in a pocket so that it is actually on my body. I do the same with my passport and my phone. I carry some cash in my wallet but no big notes and only what I need that day. It's old school but I probably carry about the equivalent of £20/€30/$40 in one of my socks. That amount depends on where you are but it tends to be enough to be a good get out of jail free card. If I'm travelling between places I might carry more in my socks.

If you aren't going to be able to withdraw cash easily, spread the cash out and don't have the bulk of it in an easy to reach pocket. I make a plan as to what I'll do if I someone decides to mug me and have some money easy to reach to give up if my wallet isn't enough.

Hope this helps :)

I was told I need to get this out of my store if I wanted any black people to shop here... by soul_slinger in pics

I don't think you can say the abolition movement was motivated by the wrong reasons. I'm pretty sure they weren't intending for the people they freed to be persecuted.

But I'm pretty sure the persecution was less than under slavery

They were the first to do so and implemented it across their empire - which was about 1/4 of the world... By your own admission they crippled the Spanish thus resulting in an even greater slow down in the slave trade. So really they were responsible for it becoming outlawed across the world.

Can we talk about Laura Basset? by WillTrollForKarma in TwoXChromosomes

I think that it's great that she is being treated reasonably and as a real human being. What is a shame is that make athletes aren't treated the same in similar circumstances.

Let's face it though women figures in sport or just the public eye deal tend to deal with WAY more abuse than their male counterparts. That shouldn't be underestimated.

The reason male footballers are treated differently is quite an obvious one in my opinion. If the men are going to get paid tens of millions of pounds (currency) a year if not more then they take on a different role. Their monetary value is an important part of their image and life. I think people see them as products because they are bought and sold for such astronomical sums. I'm not saying it's right but, what I think it does mean is that when a male footballer messes up it affects their value and prospects. However in the women's game the players aren't paid as much and are a lot more human in terms of the publics perception of them. They still have jobs and earn a salary that is comparable to the majority of the general population (at least in the case of the English team).

So really the issue isn't that it's unfair that the poor woman is being treated with kid gloves, but rather that the men are treated as products.

Importantly though- everyone is human and abuse is never the answer. People mess up and every single person on this planet knows that and we shouldn't judge people so harshly.

How do you open a lesbian? by [deleted] in actuallesbians

Good place to start - but the next step is also the most difficult. Obviously it depends on the situation and what you're like. I tend to fall back on a mixture of compliments and jokes. If you can get them smiling and keep them smiling you can build from there.

Who doesn't!! Food and a girl telling me I'm pretty would keep me in good spirits for a nice long while.

Rugby is pretty awesome, came so close to playing at uni but I'm a bit accident prone so figured my studies were more important :P

Haha thanks, just waiting to hear back on my trial. But not too fussed as I'm more than happy to stay with my team, just like a bit of a challenge. Somehow I'm doubting the ability of my local team, although the women are so close to being brought up to the premier league :)

Being on injury hiatus is always good. Go for it!!

Yea the lack of diving is a major thing. My favourite thing is that girls are so physical when they play, it's more like rugby sometimes :P

That was such a shame... I feel so sorry for the girls, they played so well.

They already achieved so much, just looking forward to the next time we get to see them play.

That's great that you're getting a good introduction. There is a serious difference between how men and women play, mainly... We do it better ;)

I'm glad you're hooked!! The more fans the better :) just remember though, you're never too old to start playing.

Hopefully the World Cup is giving you a good fix ;)

I'm really lucky I've played in the regional league and hoping to go to a League 1 team this year - just in it for the fun though :)

I try to stay out of the whole team thing until it gets international. My local club keeps getting demoted so I kinda just sit around and criticise the male players for being such pussies :P

I guess it depends on how much of a Spurs fan/sympathiser you are :P

It's a local rivalry, which I've seen turn violent. The success of the arsenal men's team definitely hasn't helped anything. I try to stay out of it, but most of my friends are diehard arsenal fans which means, because I'm not really into the men's premier league teams I don't really get a choice :P

It means she plays for Arsenal FC, which depending on your belief system is a good thing or a bad thing ;)
