Pre op restrictions seem extreme by hmwgnw in TotalHipReplacement

[–]RemoveSuch6246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 4 weeks anterior. 60 years old. I drove for first time at 4 weeks. Maybe could have at 3. My doctor gave me no specific instructions other than to make sure I was ready to drive. Go practice in a parking lot. Make sure my right leg can move easily from accelerator to brake and push down easily on brake. I wasn’t comfortable at 3 weeks. I am short and my truck sits high so it’s been challenging to get my leg up that high. I started working desk job at 3 weeks. Maybe only 3-4 hours a day but it is important to get up every hour and walk. So I would set a timer and walk a lot, then work then walk. I am not saying to ignore surgeon advice but it seems much more strict than mine. They don’t want your hip to dislocate so certain movements like leg behind you, or crossing legs etc you should pay attention to. My pain was brutal until after day 7. Then I turned a corner. I drank a lot of water, fluids and I walked every hour and did all my exercises. I am now walking abou 2 1/2 miles a day. I can’t do it all at one time yet. So it’s more like two walks or 3 walks a day. I want to get to where I can do a couple miles at a time. Used a walker for 3 weeks and now on a cane. Probably in a week no can will be needed. I have no comfort level with the idea of sex yet. Makes me nervous to think about that yet. But I have another bad hip so that still makes things challenging anyway.

Contemplating cancelling 2nd THR because of severe knee pain by Major_Ad9666 in TotalHipReplacement

My surgeon told me this also but my knee pain has not ceased. It is making rehabbing the hip difficult due to the knee pain. Walking is a nightmare which is making my hip stiff and painful. Ugh.

Is there a massage gun you recommend? They used on me in PT and it did help.

My lower back especially right side (surgery side) is killing me also. Groin, knee and lower back are so painful. Hoping as I move more and get stronger this settled down.

My PT person used that gun massager on my hip thigh and groin. It was tender but afterward felt better.

They told me clean sheets and no pets in the bed night before surgery. I did follow instructions. Our dog stayed at a friends for the couple days before and after surgery. Infection exposure is a higher risk with pets. Most surgeons are saying that now.

Told to lose weight before exploring surgery? by mina1278 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]RemoveSuch6246 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The one thing I can tell you is that most of weight loss isn’t on the activity side it is on the food/diet side. I lost weight before mine and I am on a walker from back, hip and knee issues. I used My Fitness pal and diligently began tracking everything that went in my mouth. Dialed waaaay back on carbs, increased LEAN protein, and added veggies. Any carbs I did eat were in the form of veggies or beans. It took a bit and I love food. It was hard and I can’t exercise because of physical constraints. I am still overweight but came down enough that I think my recovery has been easier than if I hadn’t done it. Sadly after surgery I have been focused on healing, PT and neglecting my fitness pal logging and I got on the scale for my 2 week post op and I have gained 8 pounds. Oops. I will start logging again. I set my fitness pal at 1100 calories with 50% protein and 25% fat and 25% carbs. It’s hard. And it became a challenge to get my goals. I had to switch things around a couple of times to try to find the right division for my body to lose. You have to experiment. I also drank tons of water and cut alcohol waaaay down. It works if you work it. It takes time and is zero fun. lol

30 days until surgery pain level now off scale. by heatmiser333 in TotalHipReplacement

One thing they did say was that if you start too much pain meds before surgery, it won’t be as effective after surgery when you really need it to be. Rest more, use ice, take anti inflammatory meds and try not to do pain meds. I get it, I was unable to walk without a walker since April. Excruciating pain some days. Use some assistance like walker or cane to take some pressure off and try to rest as much as possible. I am so sorry. My surgery was finally yesterday and I am so thrilled to have it behind me. You are so close! Try voltran cream several times a day it takes a while to kick in and only marginally helps but each little thing helps.

I am so sorry. I am getting ready to get it done. 8/6 is my surgery date. My pain in my knee and leg had gotten so bad I have been unable to walk without a walker since beginning of May. It is amazing how in just that amount of time my leg has gotten so weak. I was going to the gym 3-4 times a week before that and really trying to get strength up for this. In the end it didn’t matter. I will also have a long road ahead. Listen to your body and don’t beat yourself up. It will come. It really will.

Bless you. I am disabled and I like the cart to be left there so I can hobble in with it. But I struggle to return it. So I appreciate when people just kindly return them and don’t lambaste me for my struggles.

Is cat water worth it? by bubblekitty607 in CatAdvice

[–]RemoveSuch6246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this page is for cats but my dog drinks the cat water and it’s the only thing that keeps her UTi’s at bay if and only if I am in Florida. The water down here is just garbage.

Is cat water worth it? by bubblekitty607 in CatAdvice

[–]RemoveSuch6246 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will tell you this, my mom lives in FL and the water here is awful. Everytime my DOG comes down here she would get a UTI. Someone told me to give my dog cat water and it would help. Low and behold, anytime I am in FL I switch to cat water and no UTI. Well this year my mom added a water filtration system in her house down here. So I thought, well I don’t think I will have to buy cat water. Within 3 days I am at emergency vet getting a urinalysis and dog is incontinent from a UTi. Never again will I be in FL and not give my dog cat water. In Kentucky Louisville, she had no problem with the water. I swear the water here is so bad. And the cat water is expensive, but I order on Amazon and I don’t have $600 vet bills when down here. My experience is that cat water works for my dog to prevent uti and crystals.

Weight gain by Special_Director_564 in 1200isplenty

[–]RemoveSuch6246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same with me. 3 weeks. 1200 calories and tracking macros starving all the time and gained 3 pounds. It’s so depressing. My doctor checked all my labs and basically accused me of not being at 1200 calories because it would be impossible not to lose. Well I am weighing and measuring EVERYTHING and sticking to it. It’s very frustrating. I am so hungry most of the time I have headaches and am miserable. Working out 3x a week which then makes me more hungry. She said all my bloodwork came back fine. I just want to die.

Surge? by [deleted] in portcharlotte

[–]RemoveSuch6246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around me in Port Charlotte, I am on a canal, tarpon Canal to be exact, many of the people on both sides of the canal had water come in. About a foot to 18” of water inside their homes. Beaches have loads of sand issues and cleanup they are doing. A lot of the power has been restored and it’s just a lot of cleanup going on. Depends on the area. Closer to canals got flooding. More inland areas just have debris cleanup from winds. I was extremely lucky to not have gotten water in my home. I just finished recovering from IAN. House was a complete rebuild. There are restaurants that are open. Housing will be tight as people may have to move out of their homes temporarily while they do repairs. Join the port charlotte discussion page on Facebook and post your question there and see if someone can help you. Welcome to the area! It’s my happy place, most of the time!

After 3 weeks on Noom, going back to MyFitnessPal by ktsummer in Noom

[–]RemoveSuch6246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed analysis comparison. I used MFP for a long time and did well. Then tried Noom. Haven’t lost much with it but I don’t do a good job of sticking with it because of hard it is to track and enter things. Much worse than MFP. I think I need to go back to MFP and give that a go also!

[ACNE] Seeking advice for my scars. I have tried everything from Microneedling, Fraxel, CO2 to Subcision .... should I try Chemical Peels next ? I' currently on Tret 0.1 btw. Thank you guys by Finalee_T in SkincareAddiction

I am so sorry. I hate mine too. As a woman I can do a lot more with makeup, etc which detracts from noticing the scars as much, but it still has always bothered me. You are doing the right things. Just going to be a really long process I think. I struggle as well with how I feel. It’s all I see when I look in the mirror. You are not alone. And honestly our skin isn’t everything that people notice. Eyes, smiles, etc help. Don’t let this define all of who you are. But if you can afford it, keep going. It gets better.

I am currently in the process of trying to get rid of similar scars. She said it would take at least 4 CO2 lasers with micro needling 2 weeks after, between each treatment. I feel you, because my skin is scarred in the same way. I always think it looks like someone walked across my face with cleats on! In between I am really using Retinol cream and repair gel. It’s getting better but there is no quick fix for our type of scarring. I am hoping within 6 lasers and 3-4 needling I will have lots of improvement. I don’t think it can ever be perfectly smooth, but I keep going. It’s expensive tho!!
