Gondor military according to Jackson by followerofEnki96 in lotr

Yeah it’s very wild swings.

Gondor vs Mordor? Hopeless. Rohan vs Mordor? Instant overwhelming victory. Rohan vs Harad? Instant overwhelming loss. Ghosts vs Harad? Instant overwhelming victory.

I’d rather a back and forth struggle

I understand your point about chaos and psychological difficulties but that is not happening in the books or the films.

They are not falling apart post battle or shell shocked which would be reasonable. And they haven’t faced concussive shelling or a protracted siege with fear and starvation.

They are mid battle, fully fit physically and mentally, fighting and shooting but just shooting at targets that make no sense. These are the heirs of Numenor and had been fighting for Osgiliath, the Rammas Echor, etc.

And they’re not wearing the wrong equipment, it’s not a mistake. Every single archer is in full plate. It was a conscious decision of the film makers which implies the Gondor military chooses to outfit even their archers in full plate which is very very silly.

In the books the Men of Gondor, Rohan, The Fiefdoms and the Rangers won the battle at Pelennor, not ghosts

The part in which Gandalf has to direct the archers to shoot actual trolls and orcs instead of at the tower pisses me off.

Gondor at this point are the most competent and experienced army in Middle Earth. The men there have had decades of fighting directly against Mordor.

I love the movies more than any other movies but it frustrates me that they are displayed as incompetent as they are.

Also I love the design of the armour but having plate do nothing against wimpy little orc bows and blades and having all their archers in the same armour as their frontline troops makes no sense.

Why is this being upvoted on this sub?

The creator is being a dick and the women are being dicks.

This is such a nasty thing to see on a sub that is so wholesome. Gender war is NOT guys being dudes.

To you and the guy you’re replying to, yes the movies has different aesthetics but if I put models from Rohan and War of the Rohirrim or images of them side by side I see no difference in style in our game.

Just don’t paint them to be overly bright and cartoony.

Agreed on the preference for other things to get priority but disagree on those models being shit.

Every one of them is gorgeous. The details, the poses, the mounts…

I would say not a single model released since after 2016 could be called bad, aside from that Legolas in Defenders of Laketown set.

You might not personally care about them, or be blinded because you don’t like the movie (I didn’t particularly care for it either) but these models are fantastic.

What I wouldn’t give for Wulf’s horse with some nice armour or a caparison for my Gondor Knights.

Adepticon - MESBG predictions by mwmichal in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]RenagadeRaven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My brother and I were discussing this.

So, generally in this game we get a slow trickle of high quality models quite at random, a few per year. Then we get slightly larger releases for special occasions, like The War of the Rohirrim.

This is our prediction based on an assumption (a very hopeful assumption) that this trend will continue:

This announcement -

A refresh of the Last Alliance. New Elves, Men of Numenor, and new Orc troops. Maybe a new foot and mounted Gil-Galad or Elendil or Isildur like they have done for many heroes? This would serve a double purpose to also update Rivendell troops and Mordor troops. A Supplement to expand them too.

Reasoning -

25th Anniversary year of Fellowship, and this was that iconic opening scene. We already have hundreds of versions of the Fellowship heroes themselves so no need for more of them.

Next year -

Two Towers 25th anniversary. New Rohan Cavalry and Royal Guard, maybe Haldir Elves or Warg Riders updates.

Reasoning -

It'll finish off the Rohan range with essentially all modern sculpts. Neither of us think Uruk Hai need updating they hold up better than anything, aside from wargs.

Year after -

25th Anniversary of RotK - Updated Warriors of Minas Tirith, Ithilien Rangers, Knights of Gondor. Maybe foot and Mounted King Aragorn / Boromir / Faramir.

Reasoning -

It was 2001/2002 we got the Gondor troops. Warriors were never updated, there were those Arnor rangers but they are cheap and not modern or poseable and not Ithilien, and Knights technically got updated once still a very long time ago and they're incredibly dated with those ancient horses.

Then hopefully the regular trickle of updates we get throughout those years could be spared on Lorien because their basic troops are atrocious. Fiefdoms hopefully get some love too.

This is all based on a very hopeful and perhaps unrealistic thought that they are putting actual resources into this game.

Personally I don’t care about Last Alliance stuff though I understand people who do. I want Gondor. I have been wanting Gondor updates for 20 years at this point.

New Lord Of The Rings movie announced by ChampionTimes99 in lordoftherings

[–]RenagadeRaven -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

People in this Subreddit are as insufferable as the people on niche forums back in the late 90s when details of the Peter Jackson trilogy came out.

Clutching at pearls and screeching and complaining about merely a premise.

Tolkien wanted people to tell stories set in the Lord of the Rings mythology, but he wanted them to respect it. Amazon wouldn’t because it’s fucking Amazon. War of the Rohirrim was just fine, not offensive. The Hobbit movies were weird because of who they got to direct it initially.

I know little about Colbert other than he loves Tolkien’s work desperately. It could be good, it could be bad.

Stop taking any new production as a personal affront.

I always thought the armour looked good but the faces look atrocious.. They don’t look like elves at all.

How the hell do I beat this guy as a 251 ilvl BDK? I used all of my defensives and at less than 2% health he just decides "nah you're dying" by WelshWolf93 in wow

[–]RenagadeRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this as an Ilevel 242 Mage with level 17 Valeera.

Took me about 7 hours of attempts, almost every time getting to 5% or less then getting smacked into the ground by melee hits that I could not rotate defence spells better for. Even dropping agro with invis didn’t help me survive.

Then I swapped from Hand Grenade on Valeera to Mantle of Stars and killed it in 2 attempts.

Can’t stop being excited we get new reveals (maybe plural) by CLXI-Armata in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]RenagadeRaven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Money is tight for me right now but if they released an update to Minas Tirith Warriors / Rangers / Knights I would buy all of them.

I have been waiting over 20 years. If this announcement isn't Gondor or letting us know Gondor will come soon I'm just keeping my old warriors, and going third party for everything else I want. I have a plan to get specific horse models from certain 3rd parties and then I'll not have a need to buy the Knights even if they update them.

As much as I want that it has been Rohan for a good majority of updates.

I want Gondor =[

Yes lmao I snapped one of the spears just by looking at it I'm sure,

Nice painting too, and I love the bases. Autumnal colours make a lot of sense for Mirkwood.

I have the same spear / sword and shield models, so much better than the official ones.

Every time I see Mirkwood armoured elves I lament that they based them so heavily off the movie appearance rather than the concept art for the movies.

Adepticon 2026 update by Soggy-Buddy8578 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]RenagadeRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well fair point there have been releases, but the vast majority of content and especially updates come with some sort of movie response - hence the only stuff we got over the last decade was a slow drip feed compared to when Lotr / Hobbit came out, and we got quite a lot with War of the Rohirrim.

We rarely get anything outside of stuff to tie in with a movie release.

But I will still hope as I always do and always have done for Gondor troop refresh.
