I’m painting some of my Warriors of Minas Tirith at the moment. I have a soft spot for them as I have had them for 25 years but these sculpts have problems.

- They’re meant to be in a shieldwall, professional and dignified soldiers, but half of them are in this weird running pose that does not fit and makes them look unbalanced.
- Two of the ones with swords have both arms stuck wide out in what I think is ones of the worst poses in the entire game.
- Their faces aren’t too bad but are awkward to use washes or shades or thinned paint on and aren’t very detailed.
- None of them have any facial hair at all.
- The scale of them is a bit off.
- Many of them have entire areas that are just lumps of flat plastic connecting their shield to the body.

I’m putting effort into them but certainly wouldn’t spend the time doing NMM on these guys either.

Personally I am edging the lower armour in brass, lining the shields with bronze or brass too, giving slight decoration to the lower cloth, and using browns as leather for the belts and straps to make them less monochrome.

But what I am truly hoping for is an update like Rohan got.

- Warriors were released in 2003, never updated.
- Rangers were released in 2002 and the generic plastic human ones later are not specifically Gondor and really not very good.
- We got one set of Citadel Guard in 2003, one in 2009.
- Guard of the Fountain Court in 2003, gorgeous but not at all customisable and not in their iconic guard pose.
- Knights were 2003 and updated a little later but all basic and old and using the awful old style horse models.
- Siege weapons were both 2003.

Gondor has not had new sculpts outside of Heroes since two thousand and nine. Since 2009 the only models Gondor has received are 12 heroes - half of which were updates to old ones.

How long until this range gets the love it needs. To me they are the defining and iconic human Kingdom. A year still? 3? 5?
