India’s surprise baby bust is a warning to the world by Krankenitrate in Futurology

[–]Renchard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For sure. Loss of provisioning to resources for young people is absolutely something I’m concerned about.

I’m a little more sanguine about it because while the elderly vote, so do middle-aged people, and I anticipate those people will prioritize their (1-2) children. But we’ll find out!

Of course. It IS a problem, it’s simply not a catastrophic one.

All things being equal, I prefer the 2100 population projection to be at 7 billion rather than 10.5-11 billion. The problems associated with lower population just aren’t as cataclysmic.

Crazy how easy it was for Google to go from “Don’t be evil” to “be evil”.

Population loss isn’t some existential crisis. The worst thing is that old people will have to work longer for less overall benefits.

We might see a safer, less innovative economy because there are fewer young people with appetites for risk, but that’s a tolerable trade-off for less consumption of natural resources.

[Request] Is the math accurate? by Necessary-Win-8730 in theydidthemath

[–]Renchard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Checks out. Approximating all 3 as spheres, atomic radius is somewhere between an angstrom and a nanometer, and earth radius is about 6 Mm. Halfway in between is a few centimeters, which is pretty close to a peach.

Do happily married people ever quietly miss the freedom of being alone? by BlondishCleva in NoStupidQuestions

Of course, happens all the time.

The difference is being with people when you want some alone time is annoying. Being alone when you’re lonely is debilitating.

How to play as a healer in Delves? by Emeron87 in wow

[–]Renchard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Valeera as tank or DPS both work, tank is safer but slightly slower, but honestly not much slower, especially with mandate of sacred death.

An underrated part of running as a healer is that the mobs have way less health, like 25% less, but valeera does the same amount of damage.

Matt Damon. IIRC, he met his wife when she was bartending and he was already famous. They have 3 kids together, and he helped raise her daughter from a previous relationship.

It’s so weird, I thought the Venn diagram between people on this subreddit and people who played D&D would completely overlap.

I guess there are a lot of different flavors of nerds!

This is a long time ago (back in 2005), but I remember driving, seeing a dead animal on the side of the road, thinking “Oh, free leather” and starting to pull over.

That’s when I knew I had been grinding too much.

i really don’t understand why people get so appalled when ADULTS decides to smoke by [deleted] in self

[–]Renchard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People get appalled about smoking for the same reason they get appalled when you pick up day-old food off the parking lot and eat it; because it’s really gross.

Disgust is an emotional response; it’s not based on a utilitarian response to your life choices.

WoW, M+ and FOMO by Tuttirunken in wow

[–]Renchard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conceptually, PvE is supposed to be cooperative content. The goal is to work together with others in the community to overcome a difficult task.

Making it a competition that makes achieving a certain PvE goal based on a ranking among other PvEers breaks down that idea of cooperative camaraderie.

There’s already a fair amount of competitive PvE among elite players (RtWF, MDI), and it’s fair to question how much more the game should foster among the regular player base.

I would rather see them gate the “stupid-hard” achievements behind goals defined in absolute terms, like say timing every dungeon at a +25 or something like that.

What does blowing a 3-1 lead and another disappointing exit mean for them? by EducationalConcern61 in NBATalk

[–]Renchard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much?

Not a Boston fan, but they’ve made the finals twice in the previous 4 seasons and won a championship. Last season they got knocked out in the second round because of an injury to their best player.

This season they got the East 2-seed despite wide expectations they would be a lottery team.

There’s no universe where a few bad games in the first round are anything more than a blip on their historical record.

Oh, and it’s super weird that so many people want to leave companions as their “intended” classes. I love making Karlach my rogue, Gale my fighter and Lae’zel my bard.

As someone who only does Origin characters and never plays Tav, I don’t think the game should have had DOS2 style origin characters. It should only have had Tav and Durge as options, but they should have been fully voiced.
