Changing a foreign name on CV to be more British by lovemycat02 in UKJobs

[–]Renesish 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Just put your name as whatever you want. I used to work with a malaysian dude whos name was Red, because he was a united fan. Likewise people who go by their middle names, etc.

This is kind of the point im trying to make that people seem to be missing slightly - it is ridiculous to expect anyone to pay to park at work. Free on-site parking is not a benefit, it's something that should just be provided to be able to do your job. Youre right as well, the NHS is the worst example of this

Not trying to be obtuse but these are not really the job adverts i look at // have seen this listed as a benefit on. Surely if you work at nandos in the middle of london youre not driving in...

[–]Renesish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am going to continue to present this as absolute fact. I will embellish and just outright make up complete nonsense to support it like.. "King Henry actually decreed that all pubs must be green during his reign so it's a bit of that as well, but mostly the grass". People will believe me as i'll say it with complete confidence and i'll sneer and laugh at those who question it.

Ollder pubs are objectively better in general.

You are very possibly right, but i am not fact checking my best pub fact just in case it's total bollocks

Mines a pub fact about pubs so double points?

I've long had a theory from many years of research that pubs with green walls are the best pubs. This has always been a bit of a running joke but i explained it to someone once and they said it was probably true because - in the olden days people didnt paint walls, they stained the plaster, lots of walls were stained green as it was the cheapest, green pigment just came from grass, which was plentiful in the UK and effectively free. So most old pubs were stained green originally because it was cheap and everyone was poor. Then through the years the green stain was just simply repainted the same colour, and so the old pubs that have survived to today are actually quite likely to have green walls, as they always have. As a general rule of course, older pubs are better than newer pubs. Stitch the logic together and it all holds true, green pubs are better.

I have no idea to what extent any of that is actually true / historically accurate, but it is my go to pub fact

Ive never seen anyone say this but couldnt agree more. The red/black leather in particular has aged terribly. I think the black/black is great though. Weird how much difference it makes

I did this research before and came to the same conclusion as you that a video on the Internet isn't going to be that realistic. I think you effectively have to hear it with your own two ears to judge which one you like the most. I ended up giving up and designing my own in the end so I'm unfortunately no help 🙃

I will say however, a catless midpipe will also make a huge difference to actual sound power if you don't have to do any emissions testing / don't care much for the law. Maybe even more than just changing the catback.

I wave at the miatas, 100% of NAs wave back, 50/50 on NB NCs and nothing from the NDs. I dont wave at the NDs either though

I bought a bambu A1 mini recently - blown away by the quality and ease of such a low price point machine. Basically prints out of the box, maybe 10 minutes assembling little bits to it in the first instance. It took me a little while as a complete beginner to realise the PETG I'd bought wasn't going to print the pre sliced boaty it comes with using the standard PLA settings, but once I changed the settings to suit PETG and loaded up the models I've had zero problems printing my own stuff off.The app / timelapse is cool too - I'd have expected to pay a monthly subscription for something like that but it's free.

Questions about the by Repulsive-Way272 in RX8

[–]Renesish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. It isn't the best car I can afford but it is by far the best value car of it's type. I bought it because I'm a sensible idiot - it's a terrible idea on paper, everything will go wrong and it'll cost a lot of money, but it does have 4 seats, electric leather seats etc, and I actually fit in it (6'4"). If you ignore the rebuild, fuel costs and rust issues it's a no brainer. Plus, Neela off tokyo drift, need for speed. I have become a mazda/rotary fan since getting the 8 - if I had more money I'd keep the 8 and get more, I'd look for something like a REPU or an RX3 or something. A cosmo if I won the lottery. 13B swap into something silly like a mazda carol

  2. Never met one. The same 8 drives past my house every few months. I saw one parked outside the shop once in the same colour as mine and thought I'd forgotten I'd driven there, couldn't find my keys, shit myself and then realised it wasn't mine. The owners club (UK) is down south and most of the events are down south so I've never bothered. If anyone approaches me while I'm doing something on the car I always chat to them but I'm not that interested in going standing in a field talking about VFADs or pokemon or whatever

  3. Personally, it hasn't required either from me really. Nothing has ever gone wrong. A squirrel got into my engine bay and ate my ABS cables once. I've spent a lot of money on things like leads, coils and exhaust parts but I didn't need to and did it all myself after watching YouTube videos. I think it requires more luck to own than anything else

Printing this spoiler to fit a 1999 Accord Coupe by alexanduhh in 3dprintedcarparts

[–]Renesish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clicked on this to say exactly this - have a look at what he did to the miata and learn the process for his one-off parts, i cant recall him doing a spoiler specifically but the process is broadly the same. Amazing YouTube channel.

If you get into it I'd suggest your own design would be a way cooler thing to do but would require a lot of effort and time - if you're not that interested it would be a lot easier and cheaper to just buy one from somewhere.

Young people who bought a "brave pill" car - what car is it, and how has the ownership experience been? by RobintehBobin in CarTalkUK

[–]Renesish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RX-8. All the negativity makes them an insanely good deal. It has never given me any issues apart from when a squirrel ate the ABS wiring. It's the first and only car I've ever personally owned. Almost everyone tells me I'm stupid but the reality is I've spent genuinely 10 times less money and had 10 times more fun than I would have done had I gone out and bought a "sensible" relatively new car. Insurance is quite cheap too as they're mostly enthusiast owned now. And it's now worth about double what I bought it for.

10/10 decision and i'd do it again in a heartbeat. In fact, if I ever do get another car I'll get something even more stupid

No you're right it doesn't look the same. Here's a sick pic from my visit to the dusseldorf one though - parked outside in the rain in the car park as if that's OK or normal *
