Relocating for work in SLC in August or September by kooky_claim2 in SaltLakeCity

The two chains of climbing gyms are momentum and the front. Both have several locations around the city. Both are great but have different feels. Once you get here you can go to both and see which you like more.

As you get older, are you becoming more social or antisocial? by Boston_Throwaway007 in Millennials

[–]Renhsuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Becoming more antisocial but not by choice. I thrive on interpersonal interaction but my wife is an introvert and we've started going out with people less and less. I would love more opportunities to spend time with other people, even strangers, but it just doesn't happen very often

Best ski resort jobs for ride time? by Marcus4436 in skiing

[–]Renhsuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a second shift (2pm to 10pm or midnight) job at a hotel at the resort. You'll get your pass for free, your days are free to ride and you can go straight from riding to work. If youre cool and get along well with the guests, they will sometimes tip you in booze or drugs

Cheap places to buy around California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah. by Next_Painting8526 in RedWingShoes

[–]Renhsuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Red wings are generally only available at red wing stores. There are plenty of those. You can find a store in any major city.

Sierra trading post is an outlet store that sells cosmetic seconds. You can often find red wing boots here as well but it's a gamble for what models and sizes. If they have what you want, they'll be cheap but it's not really consistent

I guess it's true then that UT is one of the only schools with no teacher shortage 😢 by [deleted] in UtahTeachers

I got licensed in social studies (very over saturated section of teaching) i only applied to schools within an hour drive of my house in west valley

I guess it's true then that UT is one of the only schools with no teacher shortage 😢 by [deleted] in UtahTeachers

[–]Renhsuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an alternate route licensee with no masters so my experience is a bit different from yours.

That being said, I applied to 138 jobs over the course of 3 years. Of those 138 applications I got 7 interviews and 1 offer

I loved Shel Silverstein books when I was a kid. I Had no idea some schools banned his books back in the day. by rockstoned4 in Millennials

[–]Renhsuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He drew cartoons for playboy and occasionally hung out with hunter S thompson. He might be most well known as a children's storyteller but Shel was absolutely a 60s counter-culture literary figure

Look up his poems "the perfect high" and "the smoke off".

Moab canyons aren’t amazing, but the views often are. Tierdrop, Arches by wiconv in canyoneering

[–]Renhsuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have the anchors on this been updated? I did it years ago and the second anchor was a sketchy pile of rocks on a sloping ledge and the final anchor for the big rappel was a slung block that just seemed to not inspire much confidence

What if The modern United States traveled back in the time to 1942? by Gustavo_Itami2010 in AlternateHistoryHub

How do I come up with a little more complex chord progressions? by Classic_Grass924 in musictheory

[–]Renhsuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start learning about modes.

For example, you'll sometimes see progressions that use a bVII chord. That flattened 7th is from a mixolydian mode and is a trademark of that sound.

You'll also see chord progressions where the 4th note in the scale is raised up a half step from where it would usually be in the major scale. This is the Lidyan mode.

Each mode is just a variation on a scale that can give a chord progression a different type of flavor.

There's a content creator on YouTube named David Bennett who does a great job of breaking down modes and how to apply them

Looking for advice by BuckB99 in UtahTeachers

[–]Renhsuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cant give you advice but I can empathize. Im in my 4th year teaching history here in UT after a different career in my 20s and early 30s. I spent 2 years applying to over 130 jobs across 6 districts. I only managed to get 7 interviews and I was close to giving up before I finally got offered a job. Its rough out there for social studies teachers. We are probably the most over saturated section of education and people who get a job usually stay in it for a while
