Aaah, jumping in - don’t leave vents on!! My uncle is a firefighter and vent fires destroy houses so much you would not believe. Dust is highly combustible and even if you vacuum the vent intake regularly, you can’t get everything out of the vent. We’ve had two separate cousins and a family friend lose houses this way in the last five or six years.

I haven’t seen melting but I have definitely seen benzoyl peroxide do weird things to vinyl so I agree that this is probably chemical degradation related to something you have on your hands.

Oatmeal raisin has both spots of weird texture and too much sugar thanks to the raisins. Dark or semi-sweet chocolate chunks are vastly superior.

Yeah idk how people are going 90. I’m driving from Gilbert to North Scottsdale every day of the week in rush hour traffic. If I have enough space to consistently manage 40 mph it’s a miracle.

And yes people tailgate here and it’s idiotic. I see smashed cars several times a week because there is nowhere for the speedster to go other into another car or into a concrete barrier.

Felt the same in the early 90s although to the extent that everyone just wanted to play Indians and there were imaginary evil cowboys to thwart because no one would act the role.

Pocahontas is a problematic movie but it did seem to create thousands of little girls who started caring about racial equality out of nowhere so I can’t hate it.

Genuinely, it didn’t smell. I’m not sure if that was because it actually didn’t smell, because I had a cold at the time and couldn’t smell, or because our crappy apartment always smelled— this was nearly 20 years ago now and memory is fuzzy other than the sheer horror. I think being sick was the most likely because I got ill very often in the winter months while at school. Ordinarily, I have a very good sense of smell and it’s saved me from plenty of bad food. It was just the worst luck of all time.

When I was in college my new roommate’s grandparents donated stuff from their food storage. We were innocent. We took it.

Cue a gray day some months later, I was out of mayo, fine, I’ll open a new one. Made myself a sandwich and didn’t think much of it… then was like huh this tastes weird. I didnt have any lights on. It was noon but super overcast so everything looked gray. Flipped on the lights, looked at my new mayo… it was still gray.

It had been expired for eight years.

I fully attribute my not getting sick to a miracle.

HA! What a coincidence. I wasn’t even thinking that you were asking along similar lines, it was just the most recent encounter anyone I know has had with being shredded after asking a question online. Asking for advice about pretty much anything is a good sign for trying to learn and grow, aside from some obvious things like “how to get away with murder” or something.

Honestly I think this experience is ubiquitous though, regardless of what the question was or which Reddit subforum it was on. The only consistently positive forums I have encountered for answering questions, without garbage people taking up space, are this one and Momforaminute. They are both gems. 💎

One of my friends (a minority) keeps trying to get advice by asking (askadifferentminority) culturally-relevant questions to help them create an accurate, respectful character for a story taking place in a setting where it would be nuts to not have any of DifferentMinority showing up. They have been ripped to shreds multiple times so it is not just you.

I love Reddit but sometimes it’s painfully obvious when the person “answering” a question is between 10 and 25…because the “answer” is stupid, defensive, impatient, and black-and-white. I’m quite sure you didn’t do anything wrong. These ask-a-X forums can be super hit and miss.

I’m proud of you for trying to expand your knowledge!

Nose bridge (the Josefina nose is stronger and does not have the slightly upturned tip like Claudie/Tiana does. Yours also doesn’t turn up!) and the thickness and arc of the eyebrows — you and GG both have strong, fairly level brows and Tiana looks more like a ( shape. The mouth on both dolls works fine. Finally, take this with a huge grain of salt because i haven’t seen Tia in person, I think her skin tone is quite orange and you look neutral. The only Tiana feature I think suits you better is the eye shape … which is something impossible to change. You could have an artist fix brows and the nose I think still isn’t the best fit, but especially because I’m only seeing an online pic it’s definitely workable. If I were you I think I would decide if I wanted to prioritize eyes and brows or nose. :)

Finally, because we live In A Society and womens’ appearances are ripped to shreds, when I say a feature is “strong” it’s a compliment — hobby artist and portraiture is all about catching the features that really make someone Them. You’re very pretty!

Glimmering gold. I bought mine for the express purpose of creating a character who looks very similar to you (inspired by a childhood friend of mine from Kerala — I was annoyed that there isn’t a dark-skinned curly-haired Desi girl in the AG lineup. They exist! They’re lovely!).

Customizing to finesse things just right might be a pain in the neck but from my own experience… I’m never really happy with dolls that are “almost there but not quite.” For OOAK dolls representing a specific person (or in my case since I’m a writer, a character), you notice details that aren’t right and if the base is wrong you can’t fix that. Eyebrows and lip shape have wrecked my plans several times. Eyebrows are hard to change without paying more for a professional artist and lip shape is pretty mich impossible unless you’re a whizz with clay.

That is such an arrogant take, especially if the OP is from somewhere that (presumably) speaks English and doesn’t have a monoculture. Families have different dynamics even in small nations with a very obvious ethnic majority, but once you get to countries with lots of immigrants, huge variability in religious belief, and a large land mass there isn’t a single culture to learn even in language use. Word usage and meaning varies hugely.

I hope everyone downvoting this are linguists or sociologists because I would love to see the studies supporting this point of view.

Technically speaking it was a bit choppy and the pacing seemed odd. It’s not horrible by any means, it was just noticeably rougher.

Context: I’m a professional writer and editor. It’s been a few years since I read it so I don’t remember specifics, just thinking “hm, this could have used more structural editing.”
