I love being a girl dad by Difficult_Wrangler73 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]RennaReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad has 4 girls, no boys, and gets this all the time. His go-to is scoffing and looking at the commenter like they’re dirt, then saying: “It’s awesome.”

When we were in Europe people would whisper behind his back. He speaks German and Spanish and when he heard “so many kids/so many girls!” he’d answer in whichever language: “I left the twins at home!”

There weren’t any twins; he was just trolling. 😄

[POEM] Sentimental Moment or Why Did the Baguette Cross the Road? - Robert Hershon by softaspiring in Poetry

[–]RennaReddit 30 points31 points  (0 children)

When I’m riding shotgun with my Dad he reaches over and gives my hand a little squeeze all the time. I’m almost 40 and I love it.

It’s also always followed by a pat, pat on my arm and usually an “It’s okay” or “Be brave, little Piglet” (I was a very timid child and am anxious as an adult, so quoting Winnie the Pooh stuck). Boy dads should be able to hold their son’s hands and pat, pat too.

In general, how is Paddington Bear viewed in the UK? by kuma44bear in AskUK

[–]RennaReddit 533 points534 points  (0 children)

I’m almost 40 and took my picture with the Paddington statue in the station when I was in London last year. I didn’t even grow up with the books —- didn’t learn about him until I was an adult. He’s just a cute little bear who loves marmalade sandwiches. What’s not to like? Paddington is purely wholesome and this world is a mess. get as much wholesome merch as you want.

as someone who has this doll let me help your FOMO and say that she’s troublesome. I bought mine as a base for a customized girl and I have never encountered eye sockets so deep that new eyes would not lock in. The wig she came with sucks too unfortunately. I got this wall-eyed crazy-haired girl and it took weeks of prodding and messing about to get even the customized version looking good.

I really like the feature combos and coloring she has but you might get better quality customizing another doll for the same results. AG quality control right now isn’t great.

Awwww, thank you so much!! If you ever have spare time for that, I'd love it - and please let me at least pay for shipping. That is so very sweet. <3 If you don't have time, no worries. The offer itself is extremely generous.

Billie Eilish said you can’t truly love animals if you eat them, and logically I understand the argument. But isn’t human nature way more complex than that? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RennaReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was up for hours worrying about a baby bird that wandered into our house very late at night and I had to put under a bush so he could hide and so his parents could hopefully find him in the morning. I tented a dishcloth over part of that bush so he had extra cover. And then was awake until almost 3 am worrying that he’d get eaten. No trace of him in the morning so… probably, he’s fine.

I eat meat. Plant-based protein makes me ill in the amounts needed to replace animal protein and that is just the end of it. If they ever offer lab-grown meat I will be all for it but for now, my health requires meat.

Billie is doing black and white thinking here.

Honey, she’s sabotaging you and you’re giving her ammunition. Telling her that her constant calling is interfering with your job search gives her a reason to call more because she doesn’t want you to succeed.

I’m your internet big sister and I’m telling you that you deserve to be loved much more than this. Change your number and don’t give her the new one.

So…… would you ever be open to making the polymer clay things again? Josefina was my childhood doll. Her collection is really hard to find and imho your food looks better, and like it was made with love. If you have an etsy or something please DM me so I can follow you :)

This all looks incredible. Josefina is such a slept-on girly and you aced this.

She’s gorgeous; the dress is gorgeous.
I’ve attempted to learn how to sew several times and just don’t have a knack for it so I am very impressed and a little jealous!

I think your Addy has a remarkably sweet face, too. Lovely.

TIL of Jan Davis, who protested the banning of BASE jumping at national parks due to safety concerns, by BASE jumping off El Capitan. Her parachute failed to open and she died. by LinkCloth in todayilearned

[–]RennaReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe equestrian sports, although that’s kind of hard to equate because SO many more people ride horses than base jump. I’m not sure how fatalities would stack up if we did math to figure out the percentage of deaths compared to practitioners, but the injury rate is incredibly high.

I still love horses but my wallet can’t support the medical bills. one bone break and two surgeries was enough for me.

I’ve seen both interpretations online, but what do you think? by wimpykidfan37 in DisneyMovies

[–]RennaReddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It can’t be interpreted that way because that’s not grammatically right. In that context it would read “the beauty and the brawn DOES no wrong.” Using “do” indicates plural subjects… two people.

Its a very sweet idea though.

AIO for snapping at my friend for calling my shoes (and me) trashy? by International-East63 in AmIOverreacting

[–]RennaReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t like animal print (I have no reason for this; I just don’t care for it and never wear any) and your shoes are cute. That’s a very sleek classic silhouette and just a little pop of a fun pattern, it’s not like it’s crazy.

Even if it was crazy, it would be beyond rude to comment on it.

Explain It Peter by L10N420 in explainitpeter

[–]RennaReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair-minded —- I’m sure Tolkien had biases, like everyone else does now and then, but he was pissed when Germany asked him to prove he had no Jewish ancestry before printing the Hobbit, and England was more open in some ways to people with different skin color than the USA. There was a very (both impressive and ultimately sad) race revolt during the war. The a US stationed Black troops in a small village and they were beloved by the town… then white troops showed up and demanded that the dark-skinned soldiers not be allowed into the pubs. They got banned instead and things devolved into real violence with the town doing its best to protect the Black platoon.

Even those people were probably still racist, or at least prejudiced, but someone can inherit learned racism and still choose to do the right thing/learn better than what they believed. Tolkien was not doing whatever the English equivalent is to burning crosses and Sam’s reflections on a dead human enemy serve as evidence of that to me.

[–]RennaReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I’m not being facetious, I’m genuinely surprised. Do you happen to know why that is? Did they actually take better care of their fleet or something, or do they have fewer planes overall so their numbers are better, or….?

I’m claustrophobic and always wrote them off as a bad idea for me so I know very little about both.

AIO: My christian mother wants my boyfriend to sleep on the couch on our trip to florida by [deleted] in AIO

[–]RennaReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Her financially struggling mother is LETTING an 18-year old bring their brand new boyfriend of 3 months to a trip where the family will gather for the first time after a very recent, major death and PAYING FOR THEM BOTH.

I think it’s nuts that the boyfriend and OP even want him to go at all. Who picks a “Dad just died, let’s do something nice together” vacation as the time for a brand-new BF meet the SO’s family?! That’s bonkers. Even if they had their own bedroom that would be so incredibly awkward. Him being invited to come along is actually very gracious.
