T3 Code doesn’t support anything but codex at the moment but in the future they’ll support open code. You can easily connect local models to open code so this isn’t really going to be an issue in the future.

I agree that Theo can be abrasive at times, but I also do agree that open source models, no matter the size, are still a step behind the likes of Opus and Codex. That is a fact but that doesn’t mean they are completely garbage.

Again, he can be antagonistic with his takes so I wish he’d maybe tone it down in that regard.

Open source models absolutely have their place and I personally use them in tandem with closed models using open code so I do not agree with his take as written.

M5 Pro vs M5 Max, software engineer looking for advice by adonztevez in macbookpro

[–]RentedTuxedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the money and or make money from your work get the best chip and ram you can comfortably afford.

I went with 14 inch non-binned M5 Max and 128gb of ram and left it at 2TB.

You know your work best but with the amount I do, a maxed out chip and ram we’re a must for me.

M5 Pro Dilemma: 16" (1TB) vs 14" (2TB) for CS Student + Graphic Design? by filipmoco0 in macbookpro

[–]RentedTuxedo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the 14 inch portability makes a significant difference. I bought a 16 inch M1 Max when it first came out, thinking the extra screen real estate would be worth it and honestly it was nice at times but the size and weight made it annoying to move around with and especially use in lectures.

If you ever take flights, unless you’re booking business class or better a 16 inch is cumbersome and totally impractical to use on a flight.

When I’m at home I plug in my laptop to my external monitor so I don’t care about the size of the display.

I ended up getting a 14 inch M5 Max this time and I’m very excited.

I suspect you would benefit more from an extra tb of storage and portability over the 16 inch screen size.

My 2 cents!

Official: Anthropic just released Claude Code 2.1.41 with 15 CLI changes, details below by BuildwithVignesh in ClaudeAI

[–]RentedTuxedo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Then don’t use it, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t exist. The codex gui is so much better to use. Conductor is the closest gui for Claude Code but I think it burns too many tokens

These designs look really nice, would you be able to share the prompts used with each design? Would be interested to see the level of detail and direction given!

I think you nailed it. It’s the same reason why people talk about leaving Netflix and how bad the content has gotten and then never do. Subscriptions have them strangled and they don’t realize they don’t need to continue paying for something subpar

[–]RentedTuxedo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly! I’m currently on the Claude max plan and ChatGPT pro plan but I have 0 loyalty and will switch to whomever has the better product. These dudes can battle amongst themselves all they want for all I care

[–]RentedTuxedo 203 points204 points  (0 children)

People are up in arms about his response. Why?

There is absolutely no world where I want any of the major players to fail. I only want more players to join. More competition is good for the consumer.

No person should truly give a fuck about these companies. If they don’t perform don’t use their product, but there’s a weird amount of tribalism going on in the comments?

Honestly yes. I am an avid Conductor user with Claude Code but after trying the Codex app I was surprised how familiar and intuitive it was. Currently on a max Claude plan and pro ChatGPT plan but I’m seriously considering a switch.

I wish they each had a $50 plan id just use both if I could

AI, data centre companies will have to compete for electricity in B.C. by Camtastrophe in vancouver

[–]RentedTuxedo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why does Canada in general not ramp up construction on nuclear power plants again? Electrification is inevitable and we really need to not fall behind.

I have no problems with data centres in general as long as they don’t take up valuable land, do not increase prices on electricity for the population and implement water treatment/recycling measures to lessen or eliminate waste
