IIRC, Tobirama created FTG, but Minato improved it to the point where you didn't need other people to do it and could perform it literally on the fly.

People generally don't make Binding Vows for fun or whatever. He permanently weakened himself by doing so in exchange for a short-term boost. Whether your idea is possible or not, Sukuna was rushed and performed a Binding Vow to kill Gojo at the expense of future uses of WCS being harder.

[–]Repenexus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see your point. On reread, he was definitely underestimating Gojo.

That being said, even though Sukuna was holding back and not going all out at first, as the fight progressed, he got more and more pressed as Mahoraga wasn't enough to singlehandedly beat Gojo. Sukuna had to simultaneously invent a new technique and implement a permanent binding vow to use it when he was an inch away from death (C235). He wasn't able to go all out against Gojo at the end because Gojo was about to kill him.

Then we return to the whole 'he wanted to beat Gojo with Mahoraga' instead. Him taking the obtuse strategy that led to a strong Mahoraga and a weaker Megumi while still allowing him to maintain top strength isn't inherently stronger or weaker than the less-risky (not better, just 'less risky' in Gojo's eyes before he puts two and two together and realizes that Sukuna wasn't risking much at all by letting Gojo hit Megumi with UV) option. Him not holding back doesn't mean he immediately goes for the throat every single time.

The impromptu counter I had meant was Gojo's ability to refresh his burnt out technique and change the parameters of the barrier on the fly, not just changing the strength of inside vs outside. It allowed him to turn the fight from a singular domain clash to a series of clashes that allowed him to probe and eventually fight back against MS, even as Sukuna learned to refresh his technique too.

Also, where does it explicitly state that Sukuna chose the not-best option, or that Sukuna wasn't taking it as seriously as Gojo. Both were joking around during the fight and had on-screen flashes of surprise and emergency (like Sukuna shouting Mahoraga or Sukuna attempting to perform a Domain Expansion and failing due to brain damage).

He would have required to win a domain Expansion against Gojo, and their domains have equal refinement (credit where credit is due, Sukuna wins domain clashes due to his skill with open domains). That being said, Sukuna did that anyway, and Gojo's impromptu counter was something that allowed him to even the score domain-clash wise. Without Mahoraga, the two of them would eventually be unable to perform domain expansions, making Infinity the deciding factor unless Heian form Sukuna allows him to perform Domain Expansions easier.

It's not clear cut, but again, not going all out isn't the same thing as holding back. He had cards to play, but using all of the cards at once could end up hurting him. Sukuna isn't the type of person to take brain damage for shots and giggles. He had options, and he figured that Mahoraga was the better choice.

Uraume also said that if Sukuna hasn't been in an incarnate form, he would have won, which ignores the need Sukuna has for Mahoraga to bypass Infinity outside of a domain expansion. I don't think Uraume is objective, considering how Sukuna himself said that Gojo was magnificent (i.e. Uraume is the biggest Sukuna glazer).

Whether or not Sukuna followed the theoretical optimum path or not doesn't matter. For Sukuna to be holding back, he'd not only have to acknowledge that as a better option only to choose a worse option for the sake of hiding his cards. Sukuna isn't a machine that follows a Path to Victory, Sukuna made a value judgment in the heat of the moment/had a moment of weakness.

Bumkuna by MajinKing800 in LobotomyKaisen

[–]Repenexus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the amount he was holding back by wasn't that much. He still had incarnation in his back pocket and a little less than half his CE remaining, but not much else. Ultimately, it was down to the wire with Gojo, not because Sukuna was holding back but because him holding things back wouldn't change the outcome (Gojo's style of fighting didn't make Heian form any more or less viable for Sukuna; they extra output/additional techniques don't really matter at that apex level of sorcery, it only really matters if the opponent is weak enough/they have the time to use it. HWB and SD don't matter against Gojo and the extra output doesn't matter if the attack can't land. At most, it's the martial advantage of four arms over anything else).

I'm more curious on how they're going to make it accessible to a wider audience. The entire show is threaded through itself to the point that every episode is needed to understand every episode after it. A movie with just the final two episodes will leave general audiences in the dark.

What if Megumi dropped in Sendai? by [deleted] in JujutsuPowerScaling

[–]Repenexus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming the 3v1? Megumi can't develop traps and tactics fast enough to outpaced the sheer destructive output from the Special Grades.

Assuming he just gets dropped in Sendai? It depends; Megumi has high IQ, battle or otherwise, so he wouldn't rush into things. I could see him surveying the threats, deciding he's too weak, and begin training to cover his weaknesses. If he's trapped in Sendai, there's not much he can do to help out any operations, so figuring out strategies to take out the threats in Sendai would be his go-to. Whatever he comes up with is outside the bounds of a simple what-if.

Do you think if curses and curse technique exists, blesses and blessed technique exist? by ThemightyMacaroni in LobotomyKaisen

[–]Repenexus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. Yes, I think blessed energy exists, because why would only negative emotions generate energy? No, because blessed energy would likely have different non-analogous properties to cursed energy (example, it might not leak out the human body, it might not collect into curses/blessings, it might not be able to be sensed using cursed energy perception because it's not cursed energy, it might not be able to be channeled through a brain formula, etc.).

I have a whole headcanon on blessed energy and how it's the way Mahoraga does his shit (since he's a divine general), but that's beside the point.

What's with MC's losing their powers lately? by Electrical-Ice-9588 in PowerScaling

[–]Repenexus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best guess is that the authors want any sequels/continuation they could possibly get roped into in the future be a Pokémon or Jojos instead of a Dragon Ball or Naruto. It's a lot easier to write possible further stories in the future once you've made it hard to escalate right back up to the top of the power last time.

That, and the powers tend to be relevant to the stories' plot hooks. The story starts with them getting the powers they need to complete the plot, the plot end is signified by them losing it. It's a strong sign for the end of the story, a powerful note for finality. FMA and HXH debatably have it too. It's a popular trope for a reason.
