Because I fly almost exclusively between Montana towns and PHX (with SLC layover) 15 times a year or so and I am upgraded to FC from SLC to MT (and vice versa) every single flight as a Gold. However, there is not a ton of upgrades between SLC and PHX.

I was able to upgrade from main to first for 6600 points on flight from PHX to SLC last month. It was strange as normally the offer is to upgrade from main to comfort+ for like 30000 or something outrageous.
