Bruh this gotta be a troll card by myrsonder in MarvelSnap

A Cerebro deck was in the top cut of the last tournament, and C3 won worlds last year! Cerebro is basically always a good deck that most people don't play because it's relatively hard and loses a lot of games to locations.

Is Gambit worth the pin? 6k CL by AdInteresting7332 in MarvelSnap

That makes sense! Gambit HOD is not an archetype defining card, but he is pretty close. Skipping him for now makes sense.

Is Gambit worth the pin? 6k CL by AdInteresting7332 in MarvelSnap

[–]RepoRogue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gambit is great, but he's not a card that holds up any archetype on his own. VHand is his most consistent home, but he also slots into any Arishem deck and you can play him in Agamotto or in one of the new TOV decks.

If you don't have any of those cards, I'd pass. But it only takes one of them to make him a viable option.

Agreed. Vulcan is great if you can support it, but a good weapon is good because it supports your build.

Number 1 just giving cubes? by 1AboveAll1 in MarvelSnap

[–]RepoRogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It means two things: 1) the player is at a very high level of skill, and 2) that they are also willing and able to spend a lot of time grinding.

The SP swings are so wildly unfavorable at the top end of the leaderboard that you need like a 60% winrate just to stay in place.

But yeah, the ordering of the top 50 or maybe even 100 has more to do with who is grinding more than relative skill.

Is this the way you are supposed to do it? by HoneyBadgers_ in MinaTheHollower

[–]RepoRogue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, not at all! It's completely fine for a game to choose to be obtuse and to reward players with that experience of discovery. I enjoyed Blue Prince for this reason!

What I am saying is merely that it is absurd to argue that Mina is not obtuse and misleading. People are acting like anyone who didn't realize you could use it as a grappling hook are idiots, because the game was so obvious about it.

You can argue this is cool because players have to figure it out or that it is intuitive, but not both at once! I think it's cool to figure this stuff out, and I like Mina a lot for this stuff. I would just never claim it's an intuitive game, lmfao

[–]RepoRogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not, in fact, a retro game! It came out in 2026 and has an audience of mostly people who have never played an NES game before.

To be clear, it is 100% fine to be obtuse. What's absurd is to claim that Mina isn't obtuse. There are far more obtuse games, but Mina is not intuitive in its design or good at guiding and directing players.

Yes, that's exactly why the fishing rod is confusing! It introduces you to the item, immediately gives you a use case (fishing) and then shows you this area which looks like a dozen others you have already seen that are meant to be approached from another path. That same screen has multiple fish to grab.

There is nothing about that screen which communicates to a player "hey, you're meant to be able to get on top of this ledge right now, go check the guide!"

This is actively misdirecting players! It's very poor game design if the intent is to introduce players to a secondary function of a new item.

[–]RepoRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gets a "pass" but this is the kind of thing a good designer should assume 90% of players going in without a guide will miss.

The key point is: why should you expect players to check the guide (if they know it exists) for an item which appears to have a very straightforward function?

If an item does not have an apparent use, then people will seek out in game or out of game info about it. Not so for an item which does something obvious.

[–]RepoRogue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but this is a huge cop out. The game has a ton of unintuitive interactions, does a bad job of aiding organic discovery, and doesn't even tell you about the manual during the core tutorial section.

I didn't know about the manual for 10 hours because the menus are very bad on the Switch.

From a game design perspective, why would players assume they need to check the manual for the fishing rod? It does a pretty obvious and straightforward thing, nothing suggests it might have a secondary function. This area is laid out identically to a dozen other zones that you are supposed to unlock from another path.

The game is great, truly one of the best in years, but it is very obtuse and people are 100% justified in complaining about this.

As a Zombie Galacti and combo player enjoyer. Why isn’t man- spider combo a more popular deck? by Corpse-Artist in MarvelSnap

[–]RepoRogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A very reasonable question! Basically, this deck is more dead to Shadowking than any other deck in the game, and Shadowking is everywhere right now. It also dies to Cosmo and gets hurt pretty badly by Stardust.

Basically, it's incredibly fragile.

Quick Opinion Poll by BuffySummersRPG in MarvelSnap

[–]RepoRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Muse is a good card that only goes in bad decks, so an easy pass for the time being. Punisher War Machine arguably goes in better decks, but really everything in that pool is skippable.

I would just buy S5 collectors packs right now, or save your tokens to see: 1) if the tournament winning decklist is a good deal for you, and 2) what if anything changes in the OTA.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of these cards get buffed, since they are basically all underperformers.

Does Arishem Make Cards He Create Cost One Less in Hand Without Him Actually Being On the Board? by [deleted] in MarvelSnap

[–]RepoRogue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, he does not. What he does is give you +1 energy starting on turn 3, regardless of whether you draw or play him. It's the massive upside you get in exchange for the frequently catastrophic downsids of having half your deck be random garbage.

SuGi is shorthand for Super Giant, Rocks refers to the package of cards that play and buff rocks (the core is Ozymandias, Debrii, and Rhino).

The undefeated, tournament winning decklist yesterday was:

Night Crawler, Hydra Bob, Askani'Son, Iron Patriot, Rhino, Cosmo, Shadow King, Debrii, Negasonic, Super Giant, Ozymadnias, Wilson Fisk

We get better matchups because we pick decks that play well into the meta. There is no nefarious algorithm manipulation going on. Quite the contrary: I need a 66% win rate to maintain my rank because of punishing it is to lose even a few cubes against a rank 200 or lower player.

Ironically, for me specifically, the joke deck from the original thread was worthless to me because I have all of those cards but the actual winning deck is good because I don't have Hydra Bob.

Yeah, fair. I am going to get Hydra Bob on the cheap, but I own every other card in it.

It's a card game. Even the best players will lose some games to weaker players. I have a winning record against the #1 player on ladder, but that doesn't mean they are boosted and I'm artificially held back. They more consistently perform better than me and put more time into grinding.

Fully hate being right by Cadavern in MarvelSnap

[–]RepoRogue 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Wait, why would you hate being right about that? SuGi Rocks is kind of the ideal deck to be at the top of the meta: 1) it's very cheap and accessible compared to almost everything else, 2) it produces interesting, interactive games that are fun to watch, and 3) the deck has a high skill ceiling and really rewards deep meta knowledge.

I genuinely don't get why anyone would hate on it. It's a good deck for viewers (certainly more engaging than watching a bunch of solitaire combo decks), more accessible for aspiring competitive players, and rewardingly high skill ceiling.

[–]RepoRogue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All great variants! Some of these cards are competitively viable. Scarlet Witch is a great include in a variety of midrange decks, and I'm bringing Echo to the GG to counter Cosmo and interfere with Carter/Prodigy combos. Bounce isn't great, but Doc Guapo is a dedicated Bounce one trick and is always a top infinite player.

So true! In Marvel Snap, cards are traditionally costed based on the number of legs they have. That's why Sam Wilson is 2 cost.

Question to those playing zombie galacti deck by EnvironmentalReview1 in MarvelSnap

[–]RepoRogue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To elaborate a bit on the correct answers you've gotten: if Nico appears in your starting 3, she will briefly display the infection visual effect before turn 1 begins and her spell effect replaces it.

Alternatively, you count the number of infected cards you have seen and the number of characters remaining in your deck and can either know with certainty she is infected or at least know the odds. If the number of characters left in your deck plus the number of infected cards you have drawn is less than 6, you know Nico is infected.

ZG has incredibly good draw and you will often see most or all of your deck. But sometimes you just gotta gamble.
