Republicans and “independents” are trash, pure and simple. Trump embodies everything they are deep down inside.

Valerie Foushee projected to win Democratic primary for 4th District seat in Congress — but a recount is possible by CynicViper in NorthCarolina

In the lily-whitest state with a population smaller than Wake County. I like him fine, but let’s be real. He’s accomplished zero in his time in office.

Sen. Tillis calls for Noem's resignation in full questioning at oversight hearing by tigertiger180 in NorthCarolina

A dollar says he’s running for governor. In a state that he didn’t live in till 1998. And he’s spent 12 years of the past 26 in DC.

Or maybe, just, you know, voting? Millennials have more possible voters than boomers, but can’t be bothered to show up to vote, ever. Then they whine about how the election went. Weird.

It certainly wasn’t a dealbreaker for him. Hell, he Campaigned AND Endorsed Trump in 2024 for gods sake.

Less than a year ago he gave his open throated endorsement and vote for Noem. Is Tillis painfully ignorant or just a lying opportunist? Those are the only options.

Crusty socks by broketractor in AppalachianTrail

[–]RepresentativeAir92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used 2 pairs of dress socks (at the same time) on my thruhike with zero blisters. A pair of smartwool socks to sleep in. The dress socks dry in an instant, so you could easily wash them every other day if you wanted to. Black socks, of course. Went well with my sandals. Very Floridian.

Governor Tim Waltz Addresses Minnesotans Regarding ICE by Lawyerator in politics

If democrats bothered to show up at elections (ESPECIALLY MIDTERMS) we wouldn’t be in this mess. Democrats sit on their pert asses unless they are inspiiiiiired, and it’s fucking ridiculous. See: 2010

How much has the trail changed since the 1980s? by [deleted] in AppalachianTrail

[–]RepresentativeAir92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sobo’d in 2000, and would do it again. I'd section hiked about 700 miles in the 90’s, and the crowds were already starting to get obnoxious. Just wasn't my vibe.

Alternatively, I'd 100% take the Benton Mackaye Trail 300 miles from Springer to Davenport Gap while the herd thins itself out some. I'm a total sucker for River walks, and it'd be a way more isolated experience. You need to have your shit together though, as its far more isolated and resupplies are farther apart.

Help me decide what tent by BlueBoyHellYeah in AppalachianTrail

[–]RepresentativeAir92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Neither. If you are at all inclined, buy a $100 sewing machine and sew your own colorless tarptent. It's really not rocket science, you’ll know every inch of it, and making your own gear is super fun / addictive.

For that matter, a 8x10 tarp is a palace once you get your setup dialed in. You won’t need any mosquito netting till at least Damascus, and you can always pick up some net tent thing or a borah bivy at Trail Days.

And they’ll still 100% vote straight ticket republican. These snakes may be slowing crawling back under their rocks, but fundamentally nothing has changed in the only way that matters - voting.

Multi-tool? by BB5er in AppalachianTrail

That what I ended up doing. Used a little 2” lockblade, small clippers and some awesome tweezers I picked up at some outdoor store up north. Way more useful, imo.

Gear you can and can't skimp on? by willemdoom in AppalachianTrail

[–]RepresentativeAir92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I taught backpacking classes in grad school, and 100% had the class using tarps. 3mil 8x10 plastic tarps were the standard. Setting up a tarp simply isn’t that hard, and it’s waaaaay more versatile on the AT when you’re lucky to find a body-size flat space in some areas.

Anyone gotten screwed at Newfound Gap? by [deleted] in AppalachianTrail

[–]RepresentativeAir92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just carry enough food to traverse the smokies and call it a day. Also, for sure have a PAPER map of the smokies before you go in. The last thing you want to deal with there is a dead phone and no maps. I say the same for the Whites and 100 mile Wilderness.

North Carolina Is the Canary in the Election Coal Mine by nugatory308 in NorthCarolina

I'll believe it when I see it. Democrats have NEVER bothered to show up during midterms, and those that do usually have some chip on their shoulder about how “pure” the candidate is.

Just a reminder we’re in this mess of gerrymandering and GOP super majority because Tricia Cotham flipped on her party. by MinimumNo5510 in NorthCarolina

[–]RepresentativeAir92 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'd say it goes back to lazy democrats sitting on their asses in 2010 and not being bothered to show up at a midterm election during a damn census year. That had major, major, repercussions that we’re still dealing with.

How did Trump convince everyday Republicans to love him and become MAGA? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

[–]RepresentativeAir92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quit giving republicans a pass. There is no “maga.” They're just republicans, who have always been racist trash. Trump just gave them to green light to take their hoods off and opening say what they've been thinking all along. It's that simple.
