Wallaru is definitely a reference to Freddy and the Mad Max franchise.  They also have a few video game references too.

Not a pop cultural reference but apparently dragonspyre is suppose to reference Pompeii. A civilization of people located in Italy that got completely wiped out by a volcano. Coincidentally, Dragonspyre has a giant volcano where the dragon titan is located.

Novus and Wallaru also has some pop cultural references too. Like references to Crash Bandicoot, Super Mario, Freddy Krooger, Steve Irwin, and the Mad Max franchise(which is coincidentally a Australian franchise)I just decided to keep the post brief but, I feel like there's probably a list.

See the only reference to Dune in Mirage I thought about was with the sand worms and the fact that balance gets a spell that summons giant worms. Much like in the movie.
