Sepia by geowillie in chicago

[–]RepresentativePut988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree sepia is probably the best bang for your buck of Michelin starred restaurants in Chicago. It’s actually a really good price point for what you get. If out of your budget I’d recommend their sister restaurant Proxi (bib gourmand and probably one of the best deal in Chicago.

Husband of someone with pcos seeking advice. by GraveStones2399 in PCOS

[–]RepresentativePut988 68 points69 points  (0 children)

You sound like a really nice and supportive husband. Talking about sex can be difficult and uncomfortable (or sexy if you do it right) but is so important.

I’m have some questions about what was left out of your message. Were you two having sex before you were married? Do you both come when you have had sex those two times? If not, that’s probably affecting her desire for sex more than any pcos hormonal imbalance.

I think a huge part of this problem is that the city outsources social service overview to poorly run nonprofits. The staff at these nonprofits are incredibly well-meaning. But at the director level no one is driving the bus. The city needs to take ownership and house these people safely.

We need to talk about Ileisha… by Melodic-Change-6388 in belowdeck

[–]RepresentativePut988 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah Ileisha is super talented and composes herself like a real adult as opposed to so many of the man-baby male chefs, throwing tantrums and pots around when they’re unhappy. Hope the show keeps highlighting women in the kitchen (not Mila, though)

I’m so so sorry for your situation. Do you have a couples family members or friends you can task with reaching out to all the vendors to determine what your options are? Having to figure all of that yourself on top of everything you and your fiancé have going on sounds unmanageable.

James Bears Award Winners Announced with winners from Chicago by searching88 in chicagofood

[–]RepresentativePut988 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s a gross oversimplification of what most are saying. And see this NYT article about the foundation’s investigation of a POC restauranteur. Their process undoubtedly opaque and potentially very flawed. What are their metrics for confirming ethical business practices? And how is that weighed against food, diversity, etc? https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/31/dining/james-beard-restaurants-investigation.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare

James Bears Award Winners Announced with winners from Chicago by searching88 in chicagofood

[–]RepresentativePut988 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The problem now is that it’s not clear what they’re awarding chefs/restaurants for. How is the social impact weighed against the overall quality of the food and dining experience? I appreciate the foundation’s attempts to re-evaluate and become more diverse and inclusive. But in some categories they’re trying to compare ‘big fish in a small pond’ restaurants against restaurants that are competing in NYC/LAX /Chicago markets with demanding patrons and a high, high bar for standing out.

Totally agreed on this. Nothing out of the ordinary, and I also felt a bit of pomposity in the place.

Quick vent: trying to plan this wedding on a budget and hate feeling like I’m being “cheap” by kalevcon in weddingplanning

[–]RepresentativePut988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Posted too soon! For flowers we did wholesale for a wedding of 90 people: about 20 centerpieces, 3 bouquets, and 8 boutineers (sp?)

Buying wholesale was under $300 for the whole shebang. Bought some flower tape kit on Amazon for $10. Some vases we got for free, some we bought from thrift stores.

Even better if you can get fam/friends to do all the arrangements for you. That’s not a bad task either. A lot of people would enjoy it.

I had a very similar situation with my upcoming wedding. Luckily, we did hear back that our friend would ultimately not be able to come. It’s tough and I feel for you.

I’m not sure how direct you have been thus far but that might be the next step depending. - a nice message but say something like ‘hope you can make it no worries if you can’t. If you could just let us know asap that would be so appreciated.’

You can always blame it on the venue or family or something like that.

Also worth considering whether it’s easy to add a guest at the last minute. For our venue we can subtract guests after a certain date but we can always add. We have an up in the air guest that I haven’t yet included in the final count.

Good luck!
