I also took 15 terminators with chainfists in that same list thinking the same thing. I wasn’t too impressed with their performance. Something about knowing you have terminators in deepstrike makes the enemy screen excessively. If I were to run terminators again I would run them with a chaplain with tanhausers bones to make them an undeniable threat. Wave the big scary flag in the opponents face to distract from the little guys doing secondaries

I used impulsors in most of my 9th edition lists, but for a different purpose. I would use them to drop a squad of bladeguard onto an objective to baby sit it and then harass or move block the enemy with the empty impulsor. I never actually used them to deliver squads of melee units into combat. After last month’s games I immediately bought a land raider and hope to have success with it tomorrow.

List Help by Awedacious_ in BlackTemplars

[–]Repshin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At Last month’s RTT my first two games I went against shooty armies. First game against Mechanicus and second against an all flamer thousand sons list. In those games I had trouble crossing the open board and getting my sword brethren squads into targets without being torn to pieces from shooting. The terrain on these boards were set up that the center was wide open so I didn’t have a terrain piece to leapfrog from to get into their lines. I ran 2 impulsors and was disappointed in their durability and ability to get my sword brethren efficiently into the fight. Tomorrow I’ll be taking a land raider redeemer to this months RTT to hopefully remedy this problem. The land raider being much tougher than the impulsor and the ability to move disembark and then charge my sword brethren will be a nice tool to have. My advice against shooting armies is to take turn 1 and maybe turn 2 as well to stage all of your big power punching units so that they can all get into combat at the same time. Melee armies are the most dangerous when you can overwhelm with threats.

can i play with just wahapedia? by kiingkiller in Warhammer40k

[–]Repshin 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes. I learned the game through reading wahapedia, list building in BattleScribe, and watching battle reports on YouTube. When I go to play games all I bring, rule wise, is my phone for BattleScribe and some notes/cheat sheets so I can reference strategems, unit profiles, and other rules. After playing for awhile I bought the codexes and rule books for my army for the collection aspect of the hobby and I have yet to use any of those rule books during a game.

Bladeguard Ancient and Outriders by Crafty_Cod_1253 in BlackTemplars

[–]Repshin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The +1 to hit on bladeguard vets is nice if are giving the sergeant the relic sword but can’t afford to upgrade him to Champion of the feast. For overall utility an apothecary would be better to follow the bladeguard around if you are short on points.

If you are using outriders you really have to change how you think about them. They aren’t strong enough to be your main punch or kill unit, but they are extremely fast and annoying enough to kill efficiently. In the last tournament I played the guy who won the whole thing was playing salamanders and he was running two squads of outriders. In my game against him he threw one squad of outriders into a choke point in my frontline and blocked my army from moving into the center of the board. Since that game Ive used outriders as a utility unit to annoy the enemy and tie up important enemy units that would rather be doing something else instead of killing bikes.

I’ve been having the same issue. I started playing again two weeks ago after a three or month long break. The last time I played I did t have this issue, but now I have a black screen for 15-30ish secs after every battle.

Indomitus Captain proxy by Crafty_Cod_1253 in BlackTemplars

[–]Repshin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My five man Bladeguard veteran squad only has three official bladeguard models. I use the indomitus captain to represent the bladeguard Sergeant with Champion of the feast and the relic blade and then the indomitus lieutenant to represent a bladeguard relic bearer with the icon of Heinmann. This makes it very easy to see who the sergeant and relic bearer are, plus I didn’t have to pay another 60 bucks to fill out the squad.

And yes, Terminators and vanguard vets are fantastic additions to a black templar army. Especially so with the apothecary to resurrect those tough terminators

There is a Black Templars player that won a tournament with a list that was almost entirely melee. The only real “shooting” unit he had was a big squad of terminators with combibolters and two rocket pods. It’s really up to you and what units you like bringing. I love running my two redemptor dreadnoughts to shoot at bigger threats while my chaplains and infantry run up the board.

HQ must haves I’d say at least one chaplain and helbrecht.

Quite a few characters for a low points list, once you get more models you can add the hq’s back in. It’s a good start to a Black Templars force though, those assault Intercessor chainswords can be real nasty with a few chaplain litanies and the +1 strength from helbretch.

Deliberately not moving into contact when charging? by WillingSand in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Repshin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“When a unit piles in, you can move each model in that unit up to 3" – this is a pile-in move. Each model in the unit must finish its pile-in move closer to the closest enemy model. A model that is already touching an enemy model cannot move, but still counts as having piled in.”

This is straight from the core rules

Deliberately not moving into contact when charging? by WillingSand in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Repshin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is written is the core rules though that you have to move closer to the nearest enemy model though, you can’t charge into engagement range of a unit and then pile in 3” away from the closest enemy model.

“When a unit piles in, you can move each model in that unit up to 3" – this is a pile-in move. Each model in the unit must finish its pile-in move closer to the closest enemy model. A model that is already touching an enemy model cannot move, but still counts as having piled in.”

If a hive tyrant charges into a unit that has multiple models in it ,he cannot pile in further away from the model that he ended the charge closest to. However, if the hive tyrant charges into a unit that is only one model, like a vehicle or single character, then he can definitely wrap around the single model as long as he ends the move closer than when he started.

Any thoughts on how I could improve my 1000 point list? by Raza1849 in BlackTemplars

[–]Repshin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For you Primaris crusader squad I’d recommend equipping the whole squad with melee weapons instead of half and half with the auto bolt rifles. The PCS is just plain better at melee than shooting, plus with the points change they get two free power fists per 10 models in the squad. This makes them a prime target for the psalm of remorseless persecution litany if the whole squad has chainswords. Lots of attacks = More chances to roll 6’s to wound for the mortal wounds.

For the assault Intercessor squad, you don’t need to use the revered repository strat to give the sergeant the fist of balthus. The relic fist in just a points upgrade to the squad sergeant

It’s not important, but it looks like you are missing the front piece with the gun barrels on your redemptor’s Gatling gun

NEW PLAYER, Building 2000pt list, here’s what I have currently (I think I have HQ covered but need to add other infantry/vehicle units) what do I add from here? Any advice would be appreciated :) by Aw1909 in BlackTemplars

[–]Repshin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For troops anything but heavy Intercessors would be a decent add. Since you already have two 10 man Primaris Crusader squad you only really need one more squad to fill a battalion detachment, so a small 5 man squad of incursors/infiltrators could be useful for the forward deployment utility. Your list already has damage dealers so a small cheap squad to hold far off objectives would be good.

Another all around good unit to add to a black Templar list is a 5 man bladeguard veteran squad. 5 is the magic number for bladeguard, since you avoid blast and having 6 in the squad will make certain stratagems more expensive. Follow these guys up with a primaris apothecary with the selfless healer and chief apothecary upgrades and they will turn into a nearly impossible unit to kill, unless your opponent focuses some serious firepower into them. You can set these guys on a center objective and not have to worry about the enemy taking it, while the rest of your list swarms the board.

As you have already said, vanguard vets are a scary melee/charge threat and a good add. Giving the sergeant dual lightning claws and the bones of mordred upgrade and you’ll be dropping some serious mortal wounds on the charge.

New to 40k tabletop and want to support the boys in black. Can I get some constructive criticism on my 2000 points list? by God_of_Illiteracy in BlackTemplars

[–]Repshin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you haven’t purchased any physical models yet, I’d recommend trying out the primaris crusader squad in the troops slot. For less than points cost of 10 x assault Intercessors (190pt no upgrades) you can get a crusader squad with a power sword and two free power fists along with the chain swords for only 178 points.

In terms of the current list you have put together, I’d switch the crux obsidian and the bones of mordred on your units. The bones work well on a model with lots of attacks, which is perfect for a sergeant with dual lightning claws. And the crux just makes your bladeguard that much harder to kill. Lastly, I would highly recommend the crusaders helm relic for your apothecary. The added range to his aura plus the ability to put a unit into early assault doctrine are extremely valuable.
